Mario already did it perfectly.

Gameplay.

big black cock

Frilly dresses.

Frilly hats

Slice of life chapters where nothing's happening so the characters just get a chance to relax.

Emergent gameplay. Not in the sense that I can do x and y happens but what if I do x and something thats not scrippted happens? What if I end up with an event that just comes naturally?

Think about it, lets say the game lets you break into houses right? Instead of the police catching you, you sneak up on the home owner in bed and hold them at gunpoint they beg for their life and you spare them. Of course all the noise of this wakes up the ai of their kid in the other room who hits you in the head with a baseball bat while you're tying the parents up.

I like the idea of ai that reacts but not just in a set way, and I'm not sure its possible yet and its damn sure not going to be easy to program, but ai that has a few options a few scenarios that can play out.

I like that kind of thinking, but AI like that won't be possible for years to come.

AI programmer here

This is already possible, it just takes a lot of work and time. We all know how AAA devs with the actual resources to do this choose to spend their time.

GTAIV/GTAV are good examples of what we could do if people would even put a semblance of effort into AI

Choose one.

The problem with procedural generation is that no particular outcome has any implicit value to it. It's just the result of an RNG seed

More than 10 people in a city

...

Yeah yeah, my point is, it's very detailed AI. Very reactive.

Procedural generation doesn't have to just be random RNG seeds fam. I've written personality based AI for all of my games and it provides really diverse results.

The only thing RNG generated in that system is their personality values, but then those values dictate behavior.

Dwarf Fortress is exactly this. Toady [the dev] has said that basically, if he wants something to happen in the game, he doesn't just code it in: he codes in the events that will lead to it. This means that the whole game is a big sandbox of emerging situations and unpredictability. I think I have ADHD or something because I have a hard time keeping my attention on it [and most other traditional ascii games], I need to be drunk to enjoy it

I didn't play GTA5 much but an enduring memory of mine was being in a cop showdown, shooting a couple, and taking cover while more still were providing suppressing fire. One of the cops ran out of his safe spot to drag away his dead buddy. It was kinda sad but really cool

The Hitman series kinda has this, though its mostly just competent guard AI giving off the illusion of such. However, the newer game definitely takes it up a notch with the sheer amount of dialogue NPC's have. I wish I had the webm where the player created the same scenario 3 times and each time the nearby NPC's who reacted had different dialogue.

why hasn't anybody done this yet?

witch haters i pressume

Add bloomers and it would be wonderful.

Taunting that actually effects gameplay

The zero escape series fits the bill that well OP, but it's more of a VN than a game

Pantyhose > Bloomers

Being able to play as different kinds of insects

...

get lost, shrine maiden apologist

Gay romance and crossdressing

You're free to have a wrong opinion.

go home and stay go ya witch

I don't mean taunts, I mean something like WotS4 where you can press a button and a small dialogue window pops up, most of the time at least one of the options would be an insult.

Hideous Destructor has this, you can setup a whole load of traps from mobile pistol/rifle turrets to rocklet-IEDs, then lure in monsters by taunting at them. Works best when using only 9mm-based gear like the pistol and SMG, since they are suppresed and thus don't wake half the map, oh and your berserk-fueled fist works too.

...

...

I want more slow tension-building in horror games, just ratcheting things up bit by bit by bit.
Pic related: best level in Eternal Darkness (if you actually explore, talk to the NPCs, etc.)

I'd love to see a game where you play through a few levels, then for whatever reason you get sent back in time and you have to save yourself from getting killed.

So the game would have recorded a "ghost" during your playthrough of the first few levels and then during the time travel segments you have to keep that ghost safe and keep certain enemies from interacting with it or being seen by it. And then if either you or the time travel enemies are detected by the ghost or the ghost gets killed then its game over/ reload to last checkpoint

people playing games

Games that are designed like tabletop or traditional games. Way too many games are designed with traditional narrative, and I'm not just referring to cinematic experience kind of games.

Sid Meyer's Pirates

Is the new hitman actually good? If it is, the. I actually have a new game to be excited for.

memes

thats like every fucking JRPG ever
bonus points for fucking hotsprings and peaking on the girls

I want to fuck that reality.

Honestly, this never really happens. The only thing that even comes to mind remotely is Crimson Shroud. Anything else is just a port of a tabletop game (i.e. Civ, Space Hulk, etc.)
Really, tabletop simulator is the only thing that can truly satisfy on that end.

Yeah I want a sequel to both Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger too. Just not from current year Square.

Games that are completely underground, ala Arx Fatalis

dadaism

Games in floating islands/city's. Infinite ruined it.

Horror games that are subtle, dont show you the monster 24/7 and has no jump scares.

Bayonetta's taunting makes enemies more aggressive

Thanks for reminding me that we're never going to see such fun in an installer ever again.

His point was that we have the technology for even more of that cool shit, but nobody's using it because they'd rather blitz the world with ads.

Skeletons are not for sexual.

...

Games with exciting soundtracks. Fuck off with this Hans Zimmerman bullshit.

...

I think it makes bosses more aggressive but not normal enemies, though taunting also fills/maintains the style bar too so a taunt can serve for you to take a quick breather or even just sit around a little

Jesus Christ, why do youtube uploads always sound like shit? Do I have to upload this to soundcloud myself?

If skeletons are not for sexual, then why do we show our teeth as a sign of comfort and seduction?

Actually Skyrim still had a lovely manual which surprised me. It had a lovely little explanation of every skill and other stuff too. It also had the physical map which was a nice touch

Why can't we disperse everything in self-contained missions and mini campaigns?

games with sexualized main characters.
not sexy main characters, sexualized main characters.

Touhou, Jigoku Kisetsukan (which is a Touhou clone) .. .. .. basically, only Japanese games because Americans shun that kind of thing. Deep lore

God there really is no better drawing of her than that one. Doesn't the guy who made it main FunnyJunk?

I wouldn't know.

Dwarf fortress is great, but everything surrounding it is absolutely awful. The UI is complete garbage and I don't mean the ASCII/tile graphics. I mean the fact to even play the game it's practically essential to use dfhack and/or dwarf therapist. Pretty soon we will have to rely on emulators to even run the game because operating systems have been rolling out security features to prevent applications from directly accessing and modifying the memory of other applications. You already have to give dwarf therapist what amounts root permissions on Linux or completely disable kernal level security features.
The user interface is such absolute garbage that the game relies on third party tools that use techniques that should have been phased out with Windows 98.

those are really shitty story concepts

>tfw no mech game where Shinji doesn't come back after EVA Unit 01 goes berserk and merges with the unit allowing you full use of all the evangelion's powers
>it will never escalate to the point where you're fighting the first ancestral race

Video game critters behaving more like actual life forms rather than existing to get in the player's way.

What language?

Opinion discarded

I literally download the 20mb client on platforms everywhere no matter where I am and play it just fine. If you're too lazy to properly manage your game and/or face the consequences of not using Dfhack/Dwarftherapist you're basically incompetent.
If you're not fit to play the game, don't make it out like it's the game's fault

...

Also the UI is great and I've never seen a game that lets you perform actions within so quickly and readily in my life. It's basically touch typing but you get to dig capital cities underground, kill waves of trolls and goblins, make factories of industry and dwarfiness and good shit.
The game wouldn't be played if the UI was shit. The User Interface of Dwarf Fortress is absolutely sublime. I can memorise every single combination and get so much done. How many times to press enter on each screen, how to navigate a menu using the numpad, how you can press fucking Shift and a letter to perform an entirely different action as opposed to pressing the letter without shift. There are so many options, once again you're just so incompetent you can't play the fucking thing.
Memorise your keybinds, casual.

All of that is fine and I agree it's great even if it has a high learning curve. I am talking about quality of life stuff like managing inventory or handling job assignments. Without third party tools it's a tedious pain in the ass. Playing without workflow is introduces a ton of micromanagement for no real gameplay reason.

digital style

what if there was a game about the life of a normal girl, Girl Life simulator, but with Penis DLC?

when customizing your character in the beginning (or anytime-customization in options??) you could pick what you would like and not-like about the aspects of your simulated girls life.

for example she would be 18 years old but still doing everything school related, and you can choose all sorts of settings to play around in, even college and summer camp/some kind of scouts/water parks/ and more just to include every girl thing possible.
game has a slightly japanese anime girl vibe, but nothing like that bad stereotypical anime style type that gets made constantly and has no watching value. (what's the name for this?)

forgot to mention you could enable/disable the DLC whenever you want in the options and freak out the NPC's in the game
can you bring it back…?

what if the girl is one of those cool girls that goes on Holla Forums or something? she has mild autism but isn't really geeky or nerdy, but she doesn't absolutely just quite fit in with everyone so every social interaction has the possibility to be extremely awkward.

basically dick girl spaghetti pocket overflow simulator. also a videogame store in the game called shamestop

cursed mode:

You've been cursed with a penis that grows slightly bigger day after day. The larger your dick the lower the cameo index of different articles of clothing and the more dangerous/deadly your boners become. Like fainting in the middle of the hallway from lack of blood or accidentally knocking someone over the rail of the second floor. Of course with ways to hide/temporarily slow the growth.

you can tailor different social encounters for a better school experience with the boner being a randomized element of suprise so each playthrough isn't the same.

During free periods in school and after school you can hunt down a way to remove/reverse the curse placed on you. Which could involve some more video game elements to complement the school stealth.

Neural networks aren't too complicated to design and implement. It's really just a matter of teaching the system.

...

I want a Warriors-like game where you play as a luchador and you beat up demons and shit. It would be presented like a B movie.

Tell me your secrets, massa. Or at lear tell me your games

I'm not scared of your threats. Overall they are just words and we know that your words are always lies….but if you want, you can climb this mountain and fight me

Shit tier.

these used to be fucking standard, violence got lowkey fucking neutered

It's on!

Episodic releases aside, it's on par with Blood Money, perhaps even better. The only thing I can really complain about is the amount of handholding enabled by default, and that can be turned off completely.

A game based on the Rhodesian Bush War. With an alternate ending where the Rhodesians win. There is literally no games based on it, the only thing I saw was a tabletop war game that was made while the war was still going on.

I wish another game tried shit like Startropics and have the game box have cool lore stuff and maybe shit you need to reveal a hidden message or something.

kill urself pedo

Other than that, it's not a shit idea with some fine tuning, sounds good for an text adventure game.

What games are like this? Overlord? Dungeon keeper?

The ability to the underwear of female characters.

...

That's a thing in one game that you get shit on for talking about here.

Agarest Senki: Mariage?
Idea no Hi?
Saints Row 2-4?

I was kidding. I meant just doing generic villain things. Though kidnapping the hero's wife and marrying her seems to be a recurring pattern.

Dungeon keeper was the only game which filled that void.

...

Show me a game where you do that. Bonus points if it's not a generic weeb TRPG

When the jews, non-whites, and ideological leftists are all hanged, you will be hanged with them.

Didn't the 11% shoot that down?

Quick answer: no, long answer: it was such a shitstorm I don't feel like retelling it.

Nevermind, I misread that as "tie abilities to the underwear"

That's not really an answer…

None, but it would be cool.

the dev is a easily pressured crybaby who thought Holla Forums was too mean for telling him that he's a fucking idea creep and now panders to reddit instead

Oh I knew that, one of the reasons was the 11%

...

BE GONE FEATURE CREEP

...

...

...

The 11% was just the straw the broke the camel's back. He pissed off a lot of people when he played Natsuiro High School and got it in his head that YanSim suddenly NEEDED a full town to explore. Then, he played Yakuza and got it in his head that YanSim NEEDED a combat system. It kept going on and on, and he'd get pissed any time people warned him about letting the scope of the game get out of hand.

Split screen multiplayer
Vehicle combat games
Fun games

Here we go
The way I see it, he was just bouncing ideas around to see what sticks. One of the ideas was to make a grid inventory for weapons and items tucked under her skirt, and the act of opening the inventory would look like her opening up the skirt like the RE4 Merchant opening up his cloak, with all the merchandise dangling on the inside of it. The side effect was that it meant demonstrating a close-up of her panties in the middle of the screen. The next day the dev proposed a different system - a tacticool-looking double layered skirt that opened up to expose a row of pockets lined inside, making the inventory twice as big, continuous, and filling the whole screen. There was also a backstory about how this skirt was made by her mom during her own schooltime adventures. As with literally everything the dev does, he made a quick poll to gauge the response. The options were among the lines of "The tactical black market contraband skirt is cool, I like it", "The regular skirt with panties in your face is sexy, I like it" and "Opening up a schoolgirl's skirt is sexist, racist and demeaning to women, I don't like videogames at all". The latter option is what got the aforementioned 11%.
Now, as I said before, the dev just bounces ideas around. Neither version of the skirt inventory made it into the game for now, as far as I know. The dev was in favor of the "tactical" option because of how it tied into the plot and alluded to wearing prohibited items like a black market dealr would. Holla Forums interpreted his opinion as an act of censoring the game, betraying the imageboard culture and pandering to the 11%. This coincided to the rising popularity of the game in the mainsream circles at the time, including the dreaded tumblr and reddit, which naturally alienated Holla Forums since the more popular a game is, the less it is the part of the closed "Holla Forums culture". The threads about the game, which in the start were full of ideas and feedback, in time devolved into not even criticism, but just a stream of semi-baseless insults and trolling. In the end this led to the dev saying he's not gonna put up with the bullshit and him stopping visiting - at least, with his dev tripcode. Mark also took part in this and took it as a personal insult and an act of betrayal.
Again, my interpretation may and will differ from what an average bandwagon Holla Forumsirgin will tell you. The dev sure is not perfect, and neither is his game, and ESPECIALLY his current fanbase. When in doubt, google is your friend, look around and build your own opinion.

TOUCH ME SENPAI

That's a good idea for like a level or two, not for making an entire game around it.
Still, keep it in mind as a level or segment

Wouldn't having a set of basic core features be better than having one polished feature at the expense of others?

I thought the weird double-skirt thing was just yandev caving in to the bitchiest 11% of his follower base.
Even then, it still doesn't change the fact that

I'd say it if we look at it realistically, the polls are a way of collecting and analyzing feedback, and not an an actual election on where to steer the development next. Of course the person in charge has the right of veto.
You're welcome to form your own opinions, of course.

The tacticool dress wasn't a part of it, IIRC.

The three options were Pantsu, the character model being turned black during the duration, and the "I hate Videogames" option.

A lot of people were in favor of the both the panties and the burka being options to protect the game from being banned from youtube/twitch, but then he went behind everyone's backs to satisfy the 11%, calling them "vocal".

Then wouldn't that make the tacticool skirt the fourth, new option to the previous three?

If you're going to ignore the results in favor of forum bitches, why would you have the poll in the first place?
The removal of panties wouldn't have burned so badly if it wasn't done through the violation of the principle of democracy.

a set of basic features works if you have good levels

the dude clearly didn't "storyboard" his game and was just winging it and adding shit he thought was neat along the way

Collecting feedback, as I said. Looking at the poll is gotta be easier than scrolling though screens and screens of comments made by 14 year olds.

It wasn't an option, period. I would guess the main issue is that most people were in favor of having a choice between fanservice or not. Removing the freedom to choose pissed everyone off.

You just don't get it, do you?
He still scrolled through screens and screens of stupid comments anyway, and he listened to those screens of comments instead of the single sheet of the poll.
Nowhere near as much righteous anger would have been directed at Yandev if he didn't have the poll and just listened to the whiny forum bitches from the start.

This is the difference between just having the praetorian guard pick the new emperor vs. the senate meeting to elect a new emperor and the praetorians saying "fuck you, it's going to be Nero."

Plus, he cited the 11% directly as the driving force towards his change, making the dress their choice.

There was a time two years ago when I was really enthusiastic about it, so I remember it well. The framework of the game was laid out pretty quick, and it had all the basic features figured out early on, like the ten rivals, what they would be like, the week-to-week gameplay, elimination methods including non-lethal ones, school clubs perks and buffs and so on. There were some superfluous ideas added during the development like the castlevania clone minigame, but for the most time the guy stuck to the plan and went with it, and I respected him for that. Hell, the goddamn rival showcase was just released several days ago, and it still features the same 10 stereotypes devised two years ago in one of the early threads.
My biggest gripe with the game would be the voice acting, I'd say. Managing it eats into the time and effort that could've spent on other assets, and it sounds like shit. Even if the actors are decent for the most part, without a voice director and a sound mixing specialist they're gonna sound subpar no matter what. No reason wasting effort on it now if later on it's gonna be redone anyway.

My impression is that you're the one who doesn't get it. The polls are not a democratic election process, it's a tool for quickly managing feedback to decisions which may be (and indeed became) controversial. Basically the dev isn't asking the community what to do next, but asking how they liked what he did already.

I'm going to ask you for source on that.

I don't have the screencap, but I know its floating around. Try searching the blog post he made.

I know that, but that's not what happened.
The end result was some new bullshit that took dev time and which nobody liked.

You're not supposed to tear apart something you made with a tool just to rebuild it in a worse state with your bare hands, and this is why
became the meme it did.

Yandev that you?

Gotcha. I searched the blog and found this.

And right in the next paragraph I found this:

So it appears we are both not wrong.

...

It could use some tuning

That's what I gathered after reading the archive of the thread when he left. It astonishes me how some cucks here continued to defend him even after he announced his fucking off back to reddit

You got a very bias toward him view of what happened. Let me give you my side.
Which leads to now, where I'm going to assume most people here think he won't release it so he can just ride out the patreon bucks as long as possible. There were so many chances he had to either man up and say "Holla Forums I'm going to do this I don't care if you don't like it, but I understand why" or "I'm sorry Holla Forums, I realise I did something stupid can you please forgive me?" If he did, sure more wouldnt like him, but he would still have a decent following. He didn't though, instead opting to go to reddit for a bigger circlejerk.

What exactly were you right about?

Also, can I bring up how stupid it is to censor something if you're going to allegedly follow it up with worse shit? Foot in the Door Principle exists for a reason.

How much was that, $4k? A decent programmer would make much more being employed normally.

Have you seen his code?

About the part where he cited the 11% as the reason for the change.

I'm not a coder. I'm a level designer.

Thought you were the other guy, my bad.

Here it is

I'm not a coder either but even I can tell it isn't very efficient. To hire him in any company that requires actual coding he would get fired for really time wasting code.

This is the only good thing about the most recent FFXV demo.

Wait, wasn't that basically what he did?

I thought he already had several years of experience in vidya companies, saw it in the doxing threads.

I doubt this is yanderesim code.

dude, this was all the rage in the CS days. it was called "Rats" back then

There needs to be more games about Capitalism

Second one is the Wurm unlimited code. It was a pretty good trick believe it or not

I missed the thread, got a link to the archive? How long ago did he fuck off?

Quite a while ago, I don't have a link to the archive, sorry user

Holy shit, you remember that?

EQ was bad, but all the clones are worse. WoW basically killed the genre by not even being an MMO, but claiming to be one. No publisher would touch UO today, even though a sandbox is cheaper to maintain and is more fun.

...

To be fair, he could have overloaded the ==operator.

Wurm had a fuckton of hard coded shit that really should have been in a database for some reason. It makes a little more sense when you know it was supposed to be an MMO, but the whole thing still smells like it suffered massive scope creep along the way.

Not really, I had the pleasure to work with nice people for the last year or so. With modern games, it's less about "level designer" and more "environment artist".

Nudity.

The idea of "infinite parallel universes" only makes me lose interest in the story. Why? Your actions are completely meaningless because there's an infinite number of realities where you've failed and an infinite number realities where you've succeeded anyway.
I'd like to see a "different universe" where things are actually fundamentally different - like the laws of physics may be completely different, planets form into cubes or donuts instead of spheres and so on.

The funny thing here is that the cuck even managed to get himself kicked out of reddit

Holy shit what?

There are also some newer Dungeon Keeper clones like Dungeons 2 and War for the Overworld. Also the good old Evil Genius in which you play a typical James Bond villain, including mad plots, insane henchmen and ridiculous torture.

On the topic, I would really like to see more coded small details in games. Like actual clocks that show the real ingame time (bonus to be able to set an alarm), or the surface level of a container going down if you take stuff out. These effects where common amateur coding exercises, that can be implemented in an hour. Why the fuck are these, and countless more, small, easy to implement, cheap, and really sweet effects just not done anymore?
Pic might be related.

Secrets in secrets has been my video game fetish since I was a kid, especially when they get more cryptic and hidden as you go.

Tomb Raider 2 PTSD
That first mission is not for the faimt of heart.

How did you get into level design? It seems like a pretty interesting world.

Applied for a low-end asset manager job, then learned around and got lucky a couple times. You can download Unreal or Unity and screw around in them for free.

When I read through it and saw that "Cursed Mode" at the bottom is just a variant on why you have a dick and what it does, I lost my shit a second time.
Bravo, user, you really went the extra mile to demonstrate that futafags have a screw loose.

Damn nice. Wish I could take your job without actually taking your job. Good luck user.

Taunting does affect the gameplay though.
You make the player angry, making a player angry automatically makes him play worse.
Try it with multiplayer games in general, you'll find out that pissing people off actually gains you an advantage.
