It's a symbol that only they understand among themselves. They aren't exactly advertising their intentions, more like signalling to fellow travelers that they are a friendly institution. Another reason why they display these various symbols and coded language in public is because:

1. Pedophiles are often obsessed with the use of secretive symbolism and terminology. This can be seen in fictional works like Alice in Wonderland, which is to a certain extent very pro-pedo among other things, and Lolita, which is actually trying to get people to recognize certain signs and indications of pedophilic behavior and abuse, under the clever guise of slightly comedic fiction.
