Jack of all trades are generally not the thing in this game. That said, I'm not a faggot who advocates cookie-cutter builds and specific playstyles. Keep it if you're having fun with it, and reroll if you aren't.

One bit of advice you should heed though is that you're spreading your stats way too thin. You really need to just dumpster one or two of them and call it a bit of a wash for all things related to it.

I'm no expert at this, but I think in this game you really only want to go for 1 weapon skill. If you're going fists, you'll want your stats in brawn, endurance, and reflexes. Most weapons are based around 3 stats, but I think there's one or two that only based on 2. It really all depends on what kind of character you want, and what sort of things you wanna do.

Does the Corp have a HQ already, by the way? I don't really know much about Corps, so I dunno if that's something that needs to be built up to

Not sure what the meta is, but a fast enough clubs user can kill gun users yes. Especially if you take wrestling and are able to strip opponents if/when you stun them.

I don't think we've got a single locksmith, other than people who are inadvertently good at it. Certainly nobody has gone out of their way to grind it up yet, I think.

I get killed so much I'm considering rolling an alt focused on medical, craft, scav, and sci, fuck leaving the apartment.

The game is very unforgiving. If you don't ease your way up to the next tier of enemy, they will utterly destroy you.

Could you list some basic 'tiers'? Simple shit like Orphan->Rabid Orphan->Big Orphan->Cultist I get, but where should I go after the orphanage?
Without being able to crutch on solid weaponry I'm getting my ass kicked, usually I could at least go sewering.

After the orphanage, you should head to the crack mansion or the old-people's home right next to it. Those are usually a very quick pit-stop though, and afterwards you'll want to gear up and head to the sewers to fight chuds, bugs, and chobos. Do NOT fuck with the gators. From there, you can head to Crater Rim with the rednecks, armordillos, chukkas, etc etc.

However, ultimately, this is not a JRPG where you get your experience from constant battles. You can and should be finding/doing every single job you can get your hands on and safely do, along with finding cheevos, journals, and kill journals. This is where the vast bulk of your experience will come, and with that experience and inevitable mutations, combat prowess.

Forgot to mention as an addendum. You can appraise to get a relative sense of their strength in comparison to yours.

If your skill with it is high, that is. If not, you might misread and get some bogus bullshit where an orphan will stomp you.

Okay, early on, you really want to have a high amount of reflexes and weapon skill for melee builds. It's very easy to have shit weaponskill and not be able to hit anything, while having a good amount of that and reflexes will let you kill most early game enemies very easily by stunning them with a powerattack and finishing them off in a hit or two. They'll often not get a single hit in as long as you have a fast weapon and fight aggressive. If orphan xp runs dry and you can't handle much else, you can run around the world mostly naked for travel xp, do the easy jobs like delivering packages for ratzo, or get someone to show you the easy high XP journals like shoggoth tunnels, nodachi, brundlechud and such.

Grab a knife of any sort, and individually slice off every single item you can from a corpse. Don't use the butcher command.

Each slice checks a scavenge roll, leading to incredibly quick gains. Just head on back to the orphanage and get to cutting. Remember to 'grind scavenge' for quicker gains.

Get a can opener, alternate between attacking with your weapon and the can opener while waiting 20 seconds between each gain.

Be wary if you spot either, and remember to use Challengers every time you log on

Clothing stores by clothes, weapon stores by relevant weapons, etc.

You can sell masks and shit for 300+ each, but don't expect to sell the stuff you strip off dead crackheads or whatever for much.

Keep a few T-Shirts around for your eventual Tire Armor, which is great noob armor. Also keep Tires, Copper (might be brass?) Wire Spools (not sure of the exact name), Cargo Shorts (if you see these, keep them), and ancient rubber tires. You need to disassemble suicide belts to get some of the parts, but making Tire Armor is very important if you really want to become powerful.

I'm not in GONDO yet so idk if people have been buying contracts, but there are contracts you can buy at the town hall that let you earn money for every time you kill the contract's targets. Eugenics Cleansing I (i might have the name wrong) will give you $75 per normal crackhead, and 125 for the crazier crackheads. You can fight those a few tiles west of the crack mansion at the crack house. Go down when you get there and kill the vampire dog to take the house key out of the coffee can. If you catch disease vampirism, Don't let it progress into real vampirism, nobody in this new corp really wants that since it limits the real life amount of time you can actually play by like 40%.

Do an easy job if you have to kill yourself for any reason to wipe brain damage or bad rad mutations or whatever. Smalltalk is an easy checkpoint, so is winning a few hands in the casino with $1 bets.

Red/Yellow/Green zones honestly don't matter for your apartment outside of Reds but idk if there even are any red apartments.

I just stayed offline for 4 months, so there was a 2 month window (you stay offline for 2 months and anyone and everyone can lockpick your apartment without challenge) and I still have everything, so you really don't need to worry about being broken into these days unless you personally piss someone off.

Ammu-Nation buys some melee weapons, but if theres too many in stock it refuses to buy them. I'm not entirely sure about religious tracts aside from there being a bookstore in the northeastern part of FC. That might be a legitimately worthless item.

I'm automatically unwielding weapons when combat starts. Why? The behavior persists in multiple clients too.

Do you have a weapon readied with ready? If so, that unwields everything but that weapon when combat starts

You need to use 'ready', like that other poster said, but if it's one-handed, you need to 'ready (weapon) and nothing'.

Otherwise you'll try to dual-wield.

And if you do want to dool weel, you'd use "ready (weapon) and (other weapon)". And if you wanted to use two of the same type of weapon, you'd use "ready (weapon) and 2nd (weapon)".

If you're going warboy, make sure you tag a melee weapon skill. Guns don't get benefits from their "zero" command.

I just have one question. My first online game was a mud, Akanbar or something, and I really liked back then since it was the first time I was in a fantasy setting with other real people. But since then I have not played another mud.

Can I jump right into the game and play it, get the gist of what I have to do etc. without having to spend reading a shit ton of guides or do lots of tutorials?

Another way to make money if you're a pussy who can't fight is to do EEE deliveries. Get a plane or flight mutation and do deliveries. If you are good at suicide running and tracking you might be able to do Necro deliveries to that cunt Usagi Yojimbo for lotsa dosh.

Yeah. Depending on how long ago you played that MUD you were talking about, you might need to spend some time getting used to basic things like moving around, command syntax, so on and so forth, but there's really nothing to it once you get used to it.

Other than that, the only really "required" reading might be basic character creation. You can really fuck yourself if you don't know what you're doing when you roll.

So after reading this thread I see that this game gives you a ton and ton of shit to do, a lot of freedom. It's what I always wanted in a virtual world, to fuck shit up and piss off other people. This sounds like it never gets boring.

Is it populated? Are the players meme spouting retards? Do you always have something interesting to do? Is the world big and are there quests? Do people usually play in parties or alone?

The world is pretty big and there are some quests, but not that many and usually they're pretty interesting and involved. Most of the time you will be doing contracts or jobs or exploring the world though.

The way it works it is usually pretty easy to lose your party, and if you tag along with somebody it is kind of uninvolved in my opinion. You can and should definitely cooperate with other people on some stuff, but usually you're doing shit on your own.

And do many people play or you'll mostly not meet others? Do you do contracts for other real people, like assassinating and such?

I haven't joined this wave so I can't tell how full it is right now, but it sounds adequate. You'll probably meet plenty of people in Freedom City and occasionally outside.
Contracts are for NPCs, but it wouldn't surprise me if one corp pays you to fuck with another. I think they curbed PvP though, it used to be almost unrestricted, which means whenever you meet another player you had to worry about getting raped and impregnated with chestbusters. It's like living in Detroit.

There's no way around that, but doesn't have to be your focus. At first you'll be killing a lot of rabid orphans (yes) and crackheads for XP and money, but personally I usually get a plane and do long distance deliveries once I can. Mind, I often don't really get past mid-game.

There isn't an NPC relationship system or anything (aside from care dog maybe), and they'll respawn after a while, usually from a clone bank. Contracts are usually just bought.

The only thing restricting PvP right now is that people are scared of getting robbed while they're asleep (and most players being total pussies who are afraid of losing their text). Once they fix offline robberies, it will be pretty wild again.
