Elona+

We used to have some pretty regular threads on this grindfest of a nethack. Any of you still enjoy it from time to time?

Trying to work on a petless unarmed build, shits rough. I've got enough sources of plat between hunting, dungeons, and farming, but I'm having a real hard time finding resist gear and better weapons.

Is there a quick and easy way to give my pets new abilities/spells and configure their combat behavior yet? I don't wanna wait until act 2 or whatever.

Collect small medals and buy a tonfa from the workshop
Also if you are petless you must have that speed bonus feat

As far as i know ,there isnt

Elona Custom.

These threads give me genuine happiness, as dumb as that sounds.

Elona custom has a system where you can teach pets skills/spells if their stats are high enough. I forget how much you need. I feel like the AI tactics configuration is overpowered as hell though.

Heard something about wizards now replenish spellstock, does that mean unlimited meteor/ wish

I really doubt whatever happened could work that way considering the nerfs made specifically to prevent spells like Wish to be easily obtained.

Don't know about that but wizards can now spend platinum coins to train spell levels without using stock. You get more spell exp with higher learning, so that stat is actually useful now.

Maybe this could be it and I heard wrong , it was too good to be true

Elona pasta for those interested.

Beware–a number of the links in it are dead.

I'll add some of the stuff I have.

Remember–Elona only works with .bmp format images. To be safe, anything you save as a .bmp in Paint will work.

dropcanvas.com/gu4oz/1

This is a link to the Elona Sprite Pack I got with either the above pasta or a different one. I had to use Dropcanvas because the upload limit's 10 MB and the archive is 11.

Reminder to do your homework and study your magic! Soon you'll be able to solo dungeons with DLs that are more than double your level.

Sweet thanks. Will save this to the zip I use to transfer all custom graphics to new Elona versions.

I've been seeing this game pop up for years now and I have to say I'm somewhat interested, what does it do to separate itself from the rest of the Roguelikes out there?

Anyone got a working music pack?
The one in the pasta won't work

oh my fuck

thanks man gonna magic

It's got an overworld and a large focus on leveling your character, getting shit like farms and ranches set up as well as leveling your companions. It never gives me rougelike vibes, especially since the permadeath mode is incredibly hard compared to the default because you invest a lot of time into your characters.

So it's one of those Roguelikes where you don't actually permadie huh? Sounds cool, will probably check it out. Are there any cool classes/races? Those are my favorite part.

There's no permadeath unless you pick a certain gamemode, which is not recommended. Also important, this game is grindy as hell but there is much to do. If you have the money, you can buy a house and decorate/format it however you like, tile-by-tile. You can own a shop or a farm and can also change it's design tile-by-tile. The shop and farm don't have much depth to it, however.
You can learn to play instruments well to earn gold. You can literally kill anything in the game (NPCs respawn so you can kill shopkeepers or story-sensitive characters). You can own pets and marry any of them regardless of gender or species. You can change the pets sprite and portrait to whatever you want (forgot the size parameters)

There is a ton of shit to do provided you don't mind grinding. Pic related, though the time is probably bloated because I keep Elona on in the background.

I recommend going warmage with medium armor for Magic Equip. Level the fuck out of Element Scar and either Lightning or Ice spells. Stack equipment that boost spell power. Buff yourself -> Element Scar -> Water Bolt -> Ice or Lightning Bolt = dead stuff.

I like the fairy race

highest base resist
25%(i think) extra dodge rate

but can only use light equipment

Sounds rad, now I just have to hope there's a Linux version.

It kinda feels like some old 1996-ish or even 2003-ish PC fangame that takes older anime shit and SNES-era jrpg vibes and mashes it all together with a touch of it's own unique surrealist shit. At first Elona's atmosphere made me uncomfortable with how the world almost felt like an unpure jrpg fantasy world; instead of beauty everywhere like in a Final Fantasy game or in Chrono Trigger or something, you had the threat of mutation and corruption looming all over, and at first the game is buttfuckingly brutal if you aren't sure what to do.

If you've grown up with old sprite based, almost Game Maker-ish games, you're probably going to find Elona to be incredibly nostalgic. It even has a midi OST that honestly sounds great and captures the feeling of the game perfectly. Some of the unique features the game includes are player owned buildings like houses, storages, ranches where you can breed monsters and get meat, eggs, and milk from them, farms where you can plant seeds and shit and grow different things, and other shit as well.

Every monster in the game is a playable race if you edit a thing in the files; do this after you're done with the initial races though as this is considered cheating by many, and nearly all of the races are entirely unbalanced for a playthrough. Some races are completely shit and others are so overpowered that the game loses every bit of challenge it once had. However, default races include cool things like dwarves, a few kinds of humans, fairies, goblins, golems, mutants that mutate as you level up, liches, and even some fucked up shit like elves.

Oh you can also play as a snail as a challenge class.

Classes aren't really too important, but in Elona+ they give small powers, or so I've heard. Basically each class is more or less a set of starter attributes and skills for you to take into the game, because you can learn anything you want and train anything you want and do anything you want regardless of class. My main at the moment is a Juere Farmer. Juere's are a kind of human that have slowed digestion so they can go longer without food, and they're generally pretty tough-ish as well, and being a farmer gives me bonuses to cooking and farming and shit; cooking was my main idea for my money making at first and both cooking and anatomy are my highest skills.

Basically anatomy raises the chances of finding hearts, eyes, bones and meat when your foe dies. Every enemy has it's own meat that provides unique stat boosts as you keep eating it, but, every food does that. Fruit generally mostly increases luck and magic, while eating meat from the "hand" monster-type that you find around will increase your strength if you eat a bit of it, and so on. I'm running a putit ranch at the moment, because putits are easy to breed and give charisma boosts when you eat enough of the meat, and I'm interested in getting that stat higher so I can make more money and shit.

But yeah, Elona has tons of fun classes and abilities; even moreso if you enable the special class toggle in the config files.

ALSO important, get Elona+, not Elona. Elona+ improves so much shit, like, in Elona, your taxes would raise based on ingame time and a newbie might find themselves not making enough money to support themselves, and not paying taxes reduces your "karma" and having a karma too low makes everyone hate you and try to kill you on sight. Elona+ changes it so taxes raise depending on how much money you have on hand at the moment, however, among other things. Also Elona+ adds pet evolution and cool shit, so that's great. Get Elona Custom and install it to your Elona folder as well; Elona Custom is basically Elona++ and adds more options and even a few bits of extra content.

I just mute the game and play my own music.

Pretty much this. You can pick wizard and train unarmed and punch shit in the face (with the Otogiri, this actually works well). The classes do have unique feats however.
elona.wikia.com/wiki/Class_feats_(Elona+)
Don't worry about regretting your choice later though, it's easy to change class later on.
elona.wikia.com/wiki/Business_card

What kind of music is good with it? Got any suggestions?

Don't really listen to music that's fitting with the game, I just listen to music from other games. Usually go SMT or other music. The song playing in is from Rabi Ribi. Just listen to whatever you like.

Wine runs it perfectly, although it uses MIDI music so you'll need Timidity++ or whatever.

If only scrolls of name weren't broken.

I picked up all the medals in towns already, do they ever respawn?
Where do I get a business card for a job change?
How do I secure immortality and eternal youth for me and my waifu?

Immortality is through grindan
Eternal youth is by being nice to loli eldritch princess

You can get a business card by winning like 13 blackjack games in a row. Do it when you get the luck buff.
I don't think the medals respawn. Just clear dungeons, the end chests usually have some.

Made this the other day. It's not compatible with some of the clothing, but it's better than the default. if a bit lewd

If there's no aging death like in ADoM, I suppose that's not a problem.

How does one determine quality in a piece of armour? What do the numbers represent, exactly, and how can you tell if something is better than another in various ways?

Sure, the numbers go up, but I'm not sure what they mean.

Haven't played it in months, but i've been thinking about it and about making a thread recently.

Living the dream.

Some sprites I made / altered for my own purposes. The current sprite DB is fucking awful, so small things are easier to make on your own.

Terrorism squirrel is a new mob in elona+ a few versions back.

>put the stuffed corpse statue of Erystia in my museum

Are the servers back?

Are you playing Elona+? Scrolls of name don't do anything anymore, this was to prevent abuse of the name system with living weapons.

I just wish the item crafting system was better and didn't depend on shitty gathering points that relied on useless skills. Something akin to an imbuing system or breaking down artifacts for components would be more fun.

Medals on the map don't respawn, but there's always a guaranteed one at the end of each random dungeon.
You can reduce your age by and drinking blessed potions of slow. I've had invisible potion-throwing enemies chuck those at me but it's random and they can be a huge nuisance if they aren't alone, so it's better to buy/pick up the potions and bless them yourself.

Oh so it's not a roguelike.

Kamikaze yeek is best enemy.

Is this game single-player or some kind of MUD?

Perma-death is just a single high value factor of the Berlin Interpretation, it's not an absolute requirement.

Singleplayer with multiplayer chat and a room-sharing system where you can upload a map for other people to play in on their own.

its a nethack but the focus is on saving/progression instead of dieing a lot. It used to have a chat server so you could laugh at other players dieing, but I think thats been discontinued.

About how much Luck would you recommend for Garok's Hammer?

Is there not a way to make our own chat server?

Xfire Elona+?
Steam overlay on Elona+?

I guess not but it shares many similar elements.

I'm just using it for the name change, but the random seed is the same every time. You're always scrolling through the same list.
That's probably why many names can't be rolled this way, even though you know it's possible.

Whjat are some cool sprite packs?

Is a machine infantry any goodas a pet? I want a robo-fu

I dunno if you guys have seen this already, but noa is working on a new game set in the same universe

It was such a pointless addition but it added so much charm to the game.

Well Loople-fukken-doo

No more idiots wishing for shit like Pope robes
Man I didn't even realize how much I cared about this shit until it was removed

As shit as moongates could be, I miss them solely because I found one that had enemies that'd give you a free wish when they died.

What the fuck there are enemies that do that?

Have some fan art

If I'm not wrong, enemies in moongates could have custom programming. I only read about it being used to make enemies that split upon death though.

best goddess

Almost right. Kumiromi is actually the best god

I only remember that flash game Elona shooter. Was pretty nice.

anybody know reliable ways to increase potential for attributes?

git gud at blackjack

Join a guild, hire a maid, and always keep at least 3 platinum onhand.

3 ways (You need at least 1 good pet and a lot of piety in 1 god)

1.collect materials from him/her to make potions of potential bless than drink

2.Eat the breakfast cook by the pet

3.Invest heavily in magic stores and buy potion of potential and bless them before drinking

How much do you need to pour into a magic shop for it to sell really good stuff?

At least 1 mil

>came across the destruction in the Void
Well that's several million gold down the drain. At least I got another

Surely you must have some combat capabilities? Did you really get that high-leveled by not fighting?

Damn that's pretty lucky. I only got mine through wishes.

Remember, attacking the man in the upper right hand of vernis will give you good starting items. He is in a graveyard

I like you

On an unrelated note Alchemy +Magic device can make for an interesting build

Doesn't he have a weapon with the ability to cause ragnarok, or am I mistaken?

That's the joke

I'm still on 1.58. Don't see myself "upgrading" anytime soon. Whoever's running Elona+ must have never played any Dragon Quest game. They're supposed to be nearly immune to magic on top of taking almost no damage from attacks.

Some limited capabilities. I have a meteor that is unsustainable and overly destructive and a magic ball too weak to kill bosses.

Kumiromi is awesome; I tend to forget about his looks and imagine him as some slow, wise, fatherly figure who watches over nature like some mega-druid, but his shota-y form is awesome as well and fits right into Elona and the dreamy, early 2000's vibes it has.

Him being what seems to a 15-ish year old boy though is kinda sad sometimes; with his super slow speech I can only imagine him as some child that was lost in the woods forever and eventually literally became one with nature, and he just talks slow out of his wisdom and patience causing him to not want to do much. I can't help but feel that there's a bit of sadness in him though; he just wants peace, and with that vibe of him just being a lost kid, it almost feels like he's holding back some kind of sadness from never being able to live his former life or some shit.

He's an awesome character; while he has everything figured out in terms of wisdom, he seems to have a few things he's struggling with and it's honestly kind of sad for some reason. I'm probably wrong though; the game probably has some good backstory for him later on or something, I can imagine.

in elona+ he's gone completely insane over his waifu turning into a retarded catgirl

...

Should've pulled out.

Does Holla Forums sit on a mount or walk on your own feet?

I'm not a fan of pets, so I walk. Seven league boots and trying to favor gear that increases speed.

Pretty much, I also got a sword with ridiculously high base attack and superior material'd it, this was the result. Now I'm farming for Luck and Small Medals for Garok's Hammer to make it even better. Old screenshot, at this point in time it's +10

No mounts. I've already got my loli, a crazy girl who insists she's my sister, and a divine guardian whom I ended up having to protect rather than the other way.
My food budget is stretched as thin as it can be. I should probably get a dedicated farm or something.

How the fuck do I even git gud?

Supporting this question.
I still have problems with doing basic quests.

Keep playing till you figure it out.

'Q'uaff from Wells until you get a wish, wish for seven League boots. Do escort and delivery missions with your new over world speed.

Focus on one form of combat in the beginning, branch out later.

DON'T attack other adventurers

Explore game mechanics until you understand them a la dwarf fortress

Alternatively, if you don't want to risk the threat of mutations slowing down your early game progress, get a slave or two from derphy and just have them drink from wells for you - you'll miss out on the positive mutations as well, but any wishes they get will be forfeit to you.

Run through the puppy cave's first floor a few times to find spellbooks, scrolls and rods to sell for a profit after identifying them.

Escort quests are viable at a low level, just avoid the Beauty and the Beast ones because they will result in an ambush attack against your client.

Before It's Too Late quests are worth doing if the time limit is decent - 3 days to go from Vernis to Derphy, for instance, is easily doable even without Seven league Boots.

I got to a point where I can afford identifying spellbooks I find in Poppy Cave. Life is starting to look bright.

I will abuse escort quests like you said, but I need help outside of this.
1.How to remove disease stuff?
2.How to get my charisma higher? Being a Lich is hard.
3.I already have gotten Sense Quality. Are there any other useful skills to learn? I know to run around with burden to train your strength.
4.How do I survive more than 2 shots from anything as Lich/Wizard. Melee guys are not a problem but anything bit over leveled kills me on sight.

you must go in orders during ether wind to prevent these diseases. (Having 20 will kill you)

1.Easiest way to remove is to win at blackjack and get a potion of cure corruption(4 wins in a row)

2.Increase charisma with charisma related skills ( buying and selling , investing and performing)

3.Learn all skills ( Traveling is one of the best)

4.Better Armor and use the defense buffs(Attribution Shield/holy shield /feather)
you should use all buffs really

wait for a lucky day buff and play blackjack. after 5 wins, go for the payout and you should get a potion of cure corruption. if you just started that guy I'd restart, ether mutations are dicks

increasing skills also increases the related stat

all skills can be useful, there isn't a downside to getting them all other than the time you spend getting plat. check the wiki for more info on what all the skills do. Just remember you also need to keep the potential of your important stats up.

Spellcasting is weak at the start as you rely on whatever you can scrape off the floor of the puppy cave until you can get into the mages guild and actually order spellbooks. Lich/wizard is even rougher as they have a lower hp pool.

*indoors

1.That's ether disease, remove it by winning 5 rounds of blackjack to get a cure corruption potion. They are super rare and valuable so try to stay out of the etherwind, it happens at the start of months divisible by 3.
2.Fuck people, use inferior material scrolls on engagement amulets until l they are raw then eat them, get charisma based skills and grind them.
3.It's worthwhile to learn as many skills as you can, since it seems you're worried about getting one shot and charisma, learn any skills that go off of those two stats, because as you level them those stats increase.

Jesus was you sitting outside during etherwind? Gotta be careful on the first few days on every 3rd month, stick near town and wait for etherwind to come then talk to a innkeeper to go the shelter and wait it/read it till it passes. You can also do the same in heavy rain and snow.

Disease is only removed from potion of cure corruption, which are a pretty rare find outside of blackjack and high level magic shops. Marrying a pet gets you a free one as well as some coins and some gear. Also worth nothing you die when reach 20+ ether disease mutations.

Give booze to someone then fucking them raises CHR and gives you some money at the risk of getting sick, investing, eating raw wedding rings raises chr potential, eatting putting corpses and preforming expect nothing but death if you try to preform with a really low stat. CHR isn't that important honestly.

You will want all of them at some point but Cooking, Gardening, Lockpicking and Travel are what I aim for 1st.

Get better gear and get swole. You are a wizard so spam your buffs and debuffs. At the start expect to get carried by your little girl. You did start with a little girl right?

Every third month, within the first ten days, either wind blows. When that happens get the fuck to the nearest town and go to the innkeeper, and enter the shelter through them. The etherwind causes those particular diseases and can only be cited by a portion of cure corruption, which is semi rare. At this point you might so we make a new character essentially

BTW indoors means your house or the shelters(talk to the innkeeper during etherwind)

Keep a scroll of return with you at all times for this

(if you don't know what etherwind is, it is when "snow" falls upwards)

Dungeons also count as indoors.

The best starting pet, stat wise and accounting for body parts available, is the little girl

Find all the tiny medals you can in towns. If you see *twinkle* in town, that means there is a medal under your foot. Hit s to search and then grab it. You can also use s to play hot or cold for medals in towns, and use it to search for nearby traps or fake walls in dungeons

Eating blessed food items sometimes grants you a temporary hire luck boost. Play blackjack and read any treasure maps you have (for the first time per map) during these luck boosts.

Man, you fucked up bad.
Makes me glad I've played ADoM before this.

You either have luck in cards or in love. I wouldn't be in this thread if I had a girlfriend.
Got 4 wins in the row multiple times. It got me 2 gold potions. No luck modifiers.

Who was that user who did a pudit build. I tink its name was yeah what ever or something

Did you bless them? Blessed potions of cure corruption cure 3 symptoms instead of 2.

They were something else not cure corruption.
But I found cure corruption randomly in a dungeon afterwards.
How do I bless items? I already drank that 1 potion.

damn son
Dip it in blessed water.
Chances are it's already blessed, so identify it first.

To bless, dip/mix with blessed water.
To get blessed water you either find it or you DROP a bottle of water on top of an altar, it will sparkle and when you pick it up again it will be blessed.

Should I?

Ok now I know most of thing I need to know how to survive. I bet I don't know half of mechanics in this game.
What is the easiest way to identify items?
I know how to get scrolls and NPC who will do this but it is extremely expensive. Is there easy way to get identify spell or something?
Same question for uncurse because somehow my items go cursed when I sleep.

You better be confident in your battle skils

You are likely correct

I know how to get scrolls and NPC who will do this but it is extremely expensive. Is there easy way to get identify spell or something?

Once you start making money the npc identifiers won't be a problem. Join a guild (warriors, thieves, wizards) for discounts.never hurts to keep a few scrolls around too.

Same as above
Also on character creation /at level 5 you can pick the exorcism feat to prevent sleep curses.

I was only considering it due to the distance.
Ended up doing a before it's too late instead, and then a few more trips back and forth.
Now I'm farming seeds in Yowyn, and waiting for a dungeon reset.

Try to find gear that lowers the chances of being cursed. You're gonna need it when you start fighting monsters that can curse your shit.
There's also anti-mutation and anti-etherwind armor, but it's rare.
You should hoard all sorts of equipment if you can, you never know which resistance or stat you're gonna need. Shops will pay you jack shit for it anyway, and later on you can set up your own shop to sell the gear you don't need.

Anyone got any tips for pianist?
Right now I can just play at parties and make mad fucking dosh(even if I fail the quest), but how do I progress from here? Skill gain is extremely slow, too

Pianist IS a slow skill to gain. Get another instrument you can play on the go on different places.
I think there is a party skill you can learn once performer reaches a certain level, this skill lets your entire group perform together for huge benefits.

Keep in mind, Performer is a skill that gets lot a lot of easy and quick dosh later on, but early game you are most likely gonna end up training HP instead by getting stoned by people with SHIT TASTE in music. Be patience, train your combat and play instruments whenever you have a chance to relax

holy SHIT
Do superior material scrolls always work this well?

Not always, and they don't work on items past a certain level of enchantedness, but they usually work well. Bless them for increased chances at the better materials

Blessed scrolls of superior material can't give you dragon scale or adamantium.

I should add, a bullet proof jacket is already loads better than, say, a breastplate. Item quality has as much to do with it as the material (and you did get a pretty good one for the type of armor.

Well, it was leather originally. I'll try to fish for more low material, high stat items and see if I can pull this off again.

If you have the Sense Quality skill, you can identify equipment just by carrying it around. You can buy it in Yowyn.

Got it as my first skill.
Only problem I have is shopkeepers still buying it out for really small money. Quests are much better way to make money, but at least you can train you strength and perception by carrying a lot of stuff.

Pic semi related to my progress. Because of high perception skill of Liches I use guns when I run out of mana.

There is a Negotiation skill. Gets you better deals when selling, buying and when giving money to shops so that they get upgraded

Investing in a shop is not affected by your Negotiation skill, though. It's a separate ability.

separate skill you need to upgrade by itself*

wow what a coincidence I was just thinking about replaying Elona. I'll post here a small guide that I saved many many blue moons ago in case it helps someone.

EARLY GAME GUIDE:
your first order of buisness is to get some money, if you check a town quest board you should see a "before it's too late" quest that has a time limit of 2 - 5 days, try to take ones that have 3 days remaining and look up a map if you are not sure where the quest is taking you. These quests generally give you 8k - 20k gold per quest which will let you buy a full set of decent gear after one or two, a full set of glass gear will be acceptable in the begining, after that go to palmia and go up to the truce ground and choose a god, I recommend yacetact of wealth. After that make your way to Derphy while doing escort/delivery/before it's too late quests and find the slave trader, if you managed to gain some levels you can get some better pets then a little girl from him. This is the jist of stuff you could do at the start but depending on your class and what you want to do this may not apply to you
about level 6 - 12, when you are kitted up try out low level dungeons either less then your base level or level 1 while you are gaining platinum try to pick up new skills from trainers like weight lifting/traveling/gardening/investing/negotiation, traveling, negotiation and weight lifting all level "automatically" and the process is quite slow even when the potential is high so having these early is nice to have and gardening can be used to get you all kinds of stat boosts +easy platinum. once you have around 100k in money try investing in a magic shop to level 50 - 60, you can get change material scrolls which will make much better gear out of anything you could buy for a long time. Once you have even better gear from change material scrolls go to vernis and take the quest to kill putits in a basement and get killed in it

Shopkeepers pay only 5% of the usual price for equipment. If you want to make money off of equipment, you need your own shop.

It looks like I will do it eventually after I get shit tone of money and find a way how to get a shop.

Pic semi related to my progress. Bought holy shield spell book. I finally can survive.

300 hours clocked in and a G*d finally died, only for its FINAL FORM to raze my army

How the fuck do I get more casino chips?
I need to cure this fucking etherwind

One of the random items you get when collecting resources. Same as the Yen coins for gashapon machines

Oh poor little one.
You get them as materials. Go to dungeon and farm normal materials and eventually you should get them.

Would anyone here happen to have any wider alternate bar counters for the item sprite sheet? Already searched the entire uploader and some Japanese blogs and still nothing.
Counters that actually line up into a long bar would look so much better than those little school desk lookin' things from the default sprite.

what tileset bruh

The default tileset. also tried searching on pixiv for better tiles.

Just out of curiosity, do people normally savescum in this game? It seems like a fucking awful nightmare without savescumming…

Some people do when drinking fountains for wishes or trying to learn how scrolls of superior/inferior material work

Dammit user, you made me remember the fact we will never vote for people like Ray of Gay Jay or The Drunk Suika Ibuki. No one will ever find the name of the Pimp Upgrayyd again.

I remember going upon a moongate that had that room. One enemy tied to a rope or gallows. And repeated beatings gave me all the equipment to cheese the early portion of the game. One has to wonder if that's still around.

Only 8 more alchemy until I get the Dupli ability. I hate the startup time on magic device builds

I remember I used to get millions of gold by breaking a kitty bank in one particular house.

i treid it but this game is too autistic for me

and i`m a literal autist

Not normally since there isn't much reason to save scum.

Personally, sometimes the game gets really tedious managing things like hunger or weight so sometimes I die to just not watching those values. That lead to save scumming because it was simply no fun at that point. These days I always just get a Defender because they will save you once from any death per rest so you don't get fucked if you get a little lazy.

At this point you should just start getting new skills, investing in magic shops, building up your equipment. Figuring out how you can break the game or work around limitations is the best part of Elona and there are quite a few of them.

That'll be 10 platinum coins plus tip.

...

Your wife can also fug you and make you breakfast.
You can use the PCC here to give her a naked apron sprite.

Can you marry NPC's that aren't your pets? I know you can shag prostitutes but I don't want to ever since that one girl killed her customer right in front of me.

Paid! Just swapped it in now to see how well they align and its just what I was looking for, thanks user. You made an edit off the original I can tell, I'm kinda shit at editing those little details in pixels, so have a small medal for your troubles.

Why is explosive ammo so satisfying to use?

Are you sure you pasted it in correctly? It should occupy the whole 48x48 block, and I see gaps in yours.

No, but you can make anything and anyone a pet if you have the means to.

Good enough for me. Thanks.

This just keeps getting better and better.

Bitch pls.
I started training my faith by sleeping so I waste my time by preforming in towns until i get sleepy.

I trained my Charisma by 1 point and Constitution by 3 because of people trowing rocks at me, while little girl got pregnant with some alien virus which results in her birthing and slaying alien kids repeatedly before me preforming in the middle of the town.

Anyone knows how to deal with alien virus?
Leaving it for free experience was tempting but it is far too weird for me.

Give her acid.

Poison and dye works too. Anything that gives poison or makes you throwup upon drinking it

I am gonna get crucified for this, but how the fuck do I put food in the chilly box?

'o'pen box, then you can switch between 'put' and 'take' tabs

Lucky day, nearly full mica set, two casino chips.
let's do this motherfucker

And then I got fucked over in both rounds.

Learn to count your cards

No amount of doing that will prevent going 20 against 21.

In gimp I set the spacing to 48x48 pixels in the gird setting, then 'snap to grid' before setting it in place on the item sheet.Yeah It is taking up the whole block, but there is that slight space in between that looks like the sprite's shadow. They do appear to be touching but just not melding in together like with the counters you'd see in The Sims or something.

Yeah, it's the shadow bleeding onto the next sprite's leftmost row.

I got a rod of dominate, what are some good targets for it? Ideally npc's because now I'm paranoid about dropping it in a dungeon. Also where can I get pets that are good shopkeepers or ones that know cooking?

Remember to train magic capactity, kids.

Rogue warriors are the best in the early game. Master thieves are better, and you can buy one from the slave trader at level 65, but by that point, you'll probably be high enough level to find a diabolic clown in level 70 dungeons.
Rogue wizards from the slave trader give the cooking skill in gene engineering

...

Holy shit I missed these threads.

Alright, I plan on going Warmage but maining magic. My only issue is those fucking ancient books. Is there any way to make that grind easier?

Also, is Alchemy and Magic Device worth using at all?

Alchemy can be used to make potions of potential, body and spirit

Magic device is an easier but less versatile alternative to magic.

No way to make the grind easier

Would magic device benefit me in anyway though?

There are some good spells like lightning ball that is exclusive, the speed buff can also be cast on allies instead of just yourself.

But if you already have a high magic level it is probably not necessary.

I have a save file I played roughly half a year ago of Elona+.

Is it possible to import it to a newer version of Elona+,or the newest offshoot of it, Elona Custom?

I really do not want to start yet again, especially since the last time I played I clocked 300+ hours.

Old saves can usually be imported, although naturally you should keep a backup copy in case it doesn't work.

why is the salt so smug

Because it can instantly kill any snail

What is a generator? i need one to mkae a scroll of change material

You can get lighting ball from a scroll of wonder. It's not totally exclusive to rods. Since they're not reliable though you're better off magic batterying a thousand rods for the spell stock.

One of the random resources you get from harvesting.

I ended up finding three ancient books on one floor. Did they raise the spawn rate or did I just get lucky?

Better than Juere Swordsmen? The Swordsmen have higher charisma and negotiation so I thought they'd be better.

Finally got Alchemy to 30 and leveled up afterwards, time to hit everything with near infinite amounts of elemental bolts and balls and whatnot.

I havent played in a long time so im gonna ask
Cant pets use gauge attacks? because my full party has full gauge and they never use it

nevermind, i forgot Intercept Mode doesnt use Gauge, gotta change them to Onslaught

...

Protip: Flour based food NEVER rots, so you can buy or make as much bread/sandwiches/croissants as you want, have food to eat wherever and you wont need to put it in the cooler box. And ofcourse, that food wont attract bandits.
Bandits are more likely to attack you the more cargo you are carrying, including traveler's food.

Did anyone get a server up and running?

Not to my knowledge, unfortunately.

Abuse teleport scrolls to get away for now.
At about level 20 you can usually kick their shit in.

i've just never been attacked this regularly, does it have to do with luck or something

despite playing this on and off for about two years now i've rarely ever gotten past level 20

All that a server is going to add to this game is chat really. Theres a couple roguelike games with this feature though still, TOME, and DCSS, the people on TOME are much more talkative than the DCSS players though.

Chat, wish and death messages are a very important and charming part of the game
Also moongates

Damn never played it like that.I missed out, looks fun And I think that the servers have been gone for quite some time. What do the moongates do?

Basically, people could upload rooms to the server, and while playing the game would download a random batch of rooms. When you find and enter a moongate, you get teleported to that unique room.
Some people built mansions with waifus and custom sprite npcs, some people built death traps with super strong enemies, some people made weird training rooms where you could punch an enemy and train skills quickly.

Because of reasons, only japanese players could upload rooms, but we were able to visit their rooms just fine.

There's been talk about it for nearly a year, but no action yet.
elona.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:19535

Yeah I just posted in that about an hour ago or so

Whoah, okay. Elona Sequel coming to Steam Greenlight?

...

Im gonna need to make a new avatar and sprite for this

Your fame might play a role as well. I know it determines the strength of a rogue ambush, but I don't know about how often they happen.

Alright, this same magic vendor in Eirel has been a tad bit too generous lately, and she's not even at soulmate.

Its a roguelike in every aspect except for that.

There IS permadeath but the game was NOT balanced for it, at all.
When you die you are asked IF you want to come back to life (with whatever penalties you get). You can just say no or play on the permadeath difficulty but you wont have fun.

I feel like I should be cringing at the idea of Elona becoming 3d but it actually looks good.

Is it 3d or is it some 2.5d thing with high quality sprites to cover it up? Like Tree of Saviour does

Well, this is higher quality than I expected.
But it has next to no chance of being as raw and fucked up as the original.

Wait, does relationship with vendors affect their shop?

Seems to be the opposite.
2D world with 3D animation instead of 3D world with sprite animation.

The only sane choice.
Modding 2D PCCs is a pain in the dick.

Not bad for level 25. I wish I had it when I was clearing the cat house, because my ass was getting handed to me there.

...

I normally do, but I went in there to check it out then got killed and dropped my chilly box and so I had to get that shit back.

Nope, Its all about rank. But she's not even as high compared to my other vendors.

Did you marry it like a good swordsman?

I would if I could

Post more waifu swords

As great as that image is, you should probably use a change material scroll on it to make it less garbage.

Ok so I got myself PTSD when I look at the bow.
Is there a easy way to train allies? Right now I just run low level dungeons and feed her some food.

I will once I get further in. Only level 10 so far and have been using rods and potions as my main source of damage.

There's a dojo close to the border with South Tyris that you can drop them off in to train, but I'm not sure how much it costs to use.

40k each training.
Seems like a good thing but I am too early lv22 to use it.

Clubs boost strength, so if you use scrolls of lesser material to turn the leather club into a raw club, you can eat it to get stronger. You can also eat raw shoes to get faster.

The Dojo is time and money inefficient, you get more focusing on one pet at a time, just use the new Evochat option to give them 100k gp and feed them regularly. Once their potentials are high enough go train and watch them turn into beasts of power.

You just need to jew harder.

Isn't there a mod of this that made everything… better? Especially the shit translation?

Elona Custom?

I remember being able to change your title, an increased amount of races to choose from (adding mobs to the list that is), and more classes.

Were you playing one of the other variants like omake or something?

Hehay, neat, Elona. Haven't seen a thread for that in a long while.

Reminder that Big Sis Yacatect of Wealth is best goddess.

elona+, yeah
the second thing's a config option

Does anyone know what causes NPCs to start lying to you? I'm kind of weirded out by it. All the NPCs in every town are saying the opposite of what they usually say.

What's your Sanity at? The higher, the better.

518/4/24

OK, it's now 518/5/1 and everyone's talking normally again. I guess Irva has April Fools' Month instead of April Fools' Day?

...

h-hot

That's how player shops work.

But I already have Elona+.

Why is this happening?

spooky

What in the fuck happened to my post?

What do you guys do for money? I used to massively overload on trade goods and walk at a snails pace overworld while my pets stomped the gangs that show up for your goods to afford investing and potions of potential, but overloading was fixed.

I get a pair of seven-league boots as soon as I can and take escort quests. The ones to Noyel are the hardest, but usually have the best payout.

Waste art.

Prostitution.
My gear maintains all my stats, and I can go to noyel with potions of cure corruption for karma

I want to try out elona custom and the latest version is for elona+ 1.60fix, but I can't find this version of elona+ anywhere.
Help?

wikiwiki.jp/elonaplus/?FrontPage

Ah wait, reading again, if you're looking for older version then you'll have to depend on someone else having it.
Or you'll have to wait till custom is updated as well

ah well, thanks anyway

kinda weird there isn't an archive of past versions

I could upload E+ 1.58 and EC 1.58.2 to the share thread's Vola if you want.

that'd be great, thanks!

Uploading now. It'll probably take a while, though.

Love these threads even if they are once a month which is preferable.
Posting a small story.
>After purchasing another ranch, I travel to Lumiest to kidnap a loli and slaughter the beggars for gold
I also just figured out that if you use squeeze while on a bed with sleepy status, you can sorta rape people

Shit, man! This crazy bitch just be givin these away like candy, ain't she?

In all my 2300+ hours I've never come across so many wishing books in such a minimal amount of time, and at the same place. Even at my usual 1000+ rank stores, the best stuff I can muster up is like 2-3 wonders and a PoP, and that's with constant scumming.
Of course there's still a chance it could just be a coincidence though, but perhaps I struck gold at just the right store rank without even realizing it, and just shouldn't push any higher than 880 or something.

so what do you do with all the wishes?

Wish for Elona 2 to be good

I dunno. I guess I'll either summon a bunch of inner gods at a party time quest to cheese music tickets, or stock up on more feather pens to see if that trick with cloning little mutant sisters actually works. But with how languid my style of play is, I might just end up sitting on them, and just watch how pretty they look as the stock reaches the 10s of thousands.

These things are true though, Gwen is a pretty good corpse generator.

Seven League Boots
Panties
Evolution
Dunno what else to ask for after that.

Happy bed
Sleep sheep
That's usually what I go for.

Is permanent time stopping possible, has anyone done such a build?

>Go full paladin, start out as a priest with a bronze mace and paper roundshield.
>He ends up overcasting to death.

Spend time training your pets.
Don't go sword and board.

Sleep sheep? I've bought a dozen of those in stores, is there a reason to wish for one?

Banm

If you give one to a pet you have a good relationship with and go to sleep with them nearby, you can get this event to happen more often.

but did you enable the tweak that improves his AI and makes him significantly more difficult?

Bam

Final bumo

Anyone else here gets emotionally attached to their pets?
I've gone so much time with my little girl and juere caster now, I can't imagine playing the game without them

Why would you? Just dump money and feed them until they are strong and then give them new abilities in South Tyris.

In this game you can train any pet to be strong so just pick whichever you want.

Either train them until they are strong, or find strong pets and feed them to your waifu via genetics

Anyone plays the legendary 27 slot mutant? I heard it is the most powerful race

It's possible to have multiple copies of a unique item as long as you don't try to carry both of them at once (including ally inventories). Is it possible to give an ally a unique, store that ally in the Doujou, give another ally the same unique, and then get the first ally back to have multiple allies equipped with the same unique?

Another day where I should've done something useful.
Another day where I spent it all playing elona+ instead

game's too autistic for my autistic mind
doesn't help that i'm low on autism after being active on the wurm generals before they became cancer and died

Postan a portrait graphic that gives some faces a new art style.

I don't think I can ever go back to not having a lifetime supply of potential potions.

Pls help I'm retarded and can't find a download link that isn't moonrunes

I uploaded E+/EC 1.58 to the share thread vola again:
volafile.io/r/HF33Go
Not the latest version, but you should be able to import any saves when a new version of Custom comes out.

Awww yiss, time to have another try at Elona. I missed these threads.

I'm still a complete greenhorn, though. I tried a Yerles Warrior and did OK, but after a while I couldn't work out what I should be working towards. Any suggestions for a good second run?

What's the difference between E+ and EC? I last played E+ 1.51, so is there a good reason to hop to 1.58?

Elona Custom is like an add-on for Elona+.
It aims to translate everything left untranslated in the game (including the main story) and fix bugs unique to the English version, but it also adds a few new features that make the game easier.
If's not essential, but it's nice to have.
Full list of changes is here: elona.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:AnnaBannana/Elona_Custom

Is there any penalty at all for walking around in circles endlessly on the world map to train stuff? Or is there a timer in the game.

elona.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:22264
This is where you cna get the latest version.
