HEVC requires a license to use, which neither firefox or Chrome wants to pay for and they already have an x264 license

Fun history fact: HEVC AKA x265 the license fee to use it was 8x higher than x264, which is why literally nobody fucking uses it other than people who make pirated content

They reduced it I think 2-3 months ago to be only 2 or 3x the cost of x264, but by now the damage has been done so much nobody wants to touch the codec and x266 is out soon next year so people want to touch it even less

VP9 was x265's only contender, is free to use but considering encoding VP9 content takes fucking eons vs x264/VP8 that too never took off

When I was younger, I acted like a genuine fucking sperglord and could barely function. The whole suite of autism bullshit, you know? Poor motor skills, terrible socialisation abilities, weird nervous tics and habits, shit like that. I even did the hand-biting thing and would sometimes have spergouts.

Then, around the age of 15-16, I realised I didn't want to be like that, so I actively started training myself to be able to function like a normal human being. It took a lot of effort, but now I only act like a total fucking sperg in private and on the internet. Because I actually had to train my personality, I'm actually a fairly sociable person these days. If I hadn't had that "Oh my God" moment in my teens where I realised what I was becoming, I probably would have ended up as a completely incapable social failure.

I'm a failure in a general sense, but at least I'm not an embarrassing failure whose family conveniently forgets to mention him.

Well, you'd retain poutine.jpg as a reference, probably small and blurred, and use OpenCV (for example) as a library to run over all uploaded images and perform difference analysis to the reference image. You're right that it'd take some overhead though, but there's no reason it'd need to be done instantly, and you could probably do some cheating and exclude a lot of cases (differing aspect ratios, etc), and then peel back such criteria as the spammers got smarter. Better yet, do something like hide the image by default for everyone except the spammer so that they were none the wiser.

It's not about difficulty, but about the banning of images in an imageboard. If someone starts spamming a typical reaction image and it's banned, then what of the people who use it moderately? Increase the number of spammers and more images are spammed and banned. Not to mention the fact that it can once again be abused by moderation

I mean fuck there's some basic shit you do when encoding, like the original having at least 8 b-frames and 3 ref frames, and that's fucking minimum

You can always tell video that doesn't do it, the very first 3-5 frames on a scene change there's a huge pixel disruption as the buffer fills

And yes I'm aware the optimum b-frame for x264 is 5, but there is still some decent improvement until 8, after that its extremely minimal and any higher is only if you got the spare time to encode something
