I'm not sure a modern Dark Forces game could be good, the shooter genre has degenerated to a point where the levels would basically have to be boring. As graphics got better level design got less abstract and less about gameplay than looks.
EA's just gonna steal this idea for Battlefront 2 Star Wars edition while Disney will DMCA him for it.

The best thing about the Jedi Knight games was the light saber fights. Of course, Disney completely ruined light sabers now.
The best thing in Outcast and Academy. Dark Forces and Jedi Knight put a focus on shooting and were great. I think the last two games suffered from the focus on lightsaber combat but they were so good at it that I didn't care.
Maybe it's foreshadowing a crappy new triple-A instalment in the Dark Forces series.

When compared to the previous games, I'm prepared to agree with you, but I wouldn't say the guns 'sucked' outright.
I didn't play JA as much as Outcast but I felt the perfect balance that existed in Outcast was gone although the new stuff was certainly a lot of fun. It's mostly an issue in multiplayer though, in singleplayer it was only an improvement.
Improvement in that regard that is, the level design and story was pretty bad.
I'd almost completely forgotten about this fact, but in Jedi Academy (and possibly Outcast; I don't know for certain), you can use cheats to give yourself Mind Trick level four, which allows you to possess enemies and control them directly (although it does mean that you yourself are left standing around unresponsive like a fucking idiot, so it's useless unless you can find a spot where you won't be a target, but you still have initial line-of-sight on the enemy in question).
There might be other hidden force powers, but if there are, I'm not aware of them.
