Friday, a black teenager, Logan Cochran, was playing basketball at the park and hanging out with a female teenager of another race.
Cochran says the adults came to the park, unhappy that he was with the other teenager. He says Carr told him, "Interracial couples don't work here."
"I was thinking of any possible way to get out of that situation, and there was none," Cochran tells WSAZ. "I've been called racist names before, but only in school. Getting called the 'n' word multiple times, and them having a gun pointed at me … changed my whole point of view."
Court documents say that Carr and Nibert called Cochran the "n" word, and Nibert headbutted him, cutting his nose.
A witness, a parent from the neighborhood, says she saw they had Cochran cornered and started yelling at them that he was underage. That is when Cochran and witnesses say Carr and Nibert ran away.
Both Carr and Nibert declined interviews with WSAZ.
