WHAT THE FUCK

dude, this needs a game

Car Ad, from what I have heard.

Are there any other games with 3D sound like the Nanashi no Geemu series for DS?

Define 3d sound - like, just sound that lets you hear whether the monster is in front of you or behind you?

Yeah, kinda. The NNG series has some really atmospheric sound (that's why it has a warning screen at the beginning advicing you to use headphones) and it feels as if you could hear the steps right beside you.

I only know NNG via JewTube, so I can not really give a proper judgement here, but from what I have heard, it's not much different from most modern First-Person horror games a la Amnesia.

I need closure.

Who were they trying to sell cars to?

Dunno. Just parrotting what some user said, according to whom it's some kind of 90s car ad.

Closure does not equal "knowing whether or not Skinwalkers have learned to wear suits".

I guess it has some similarities but you should really play them if you haven't. The way it tricks you into believing that something happened to your console bios menu and how the retro games segments start to "broke" is really unique

This entire "haunted game" scenario is seriously underused, imho. Sure, you've go some indie horror games that fuck with your game folder during certain events, but nothing does portray loss of control quite as well as loosing control over a game.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's a promotional video from Radiohead's instagram.

While I'd like to see "memz virus" levels of fuckery, it'd probably get ruined by either computer security or enough stupid people complaining to remove the feature. The closest examples I've seen of this have been from niche titles, japanese or otherwise. Aside from the embed, I'd recommend Eternal Darkness for system fuckery and Irisu Syndrome for meta fuckery.

Pre ordered Corpse Party on 3DS, thats it.

ZombiU, my expectations were low but I'm surprised at how tense the game is. Granted melee does get repetitive and the difficulty doesn't entirely seem consistent. Also tried the Evil Within's DLC, but I'm not interested in it right now because it just seems to be Outlast-tier but in third person, the base game is clunky but it has it's charm to it.

When I'm done with either game I'm tempted to play Dreadout, Fatal Frame 2, or Siren 1. I am kind of tempted to finish Blood Curse but I just got frustrated near the 8th or so episode where you had to escort the little girl, and I want to see if the original is any easier.

No clue, I still haven't read one of his stories.

There's this old game called Enemy Zero which has invisible aliens that can on hit kill you, and you can only guess their distance from this piano chime that plays. I don't know about you, but that's a bit scary in and of itself.

Postin the spookiest game commercial to my recollection.

Forgot the fucking video.

Directed by the guy with the afro from The IT Crowd? Weird.

only way we'll be getting Lovecraftian style horror done well these days is, through an independent development team that actually knows the source material and what makes it so effective. Chances of that actually happening is very slim.

I haven't bothered getting back to it, but I want to try finishing Cold Fear. It's a weird combination of different mechanics that just feel like they barely work and take some time getting used to. Whether aiming is intentionally shit and floaty to forcefully disallow you being overly advantageous towards the sanic speed enemies, could just be a result of me being bad at the game.

On a more abstract level, is it even possible to introduce Lovecraftian horror into video games from a technical perspective, given that vidya first and foremost is interactive while Lovecraftian Horror is based around the inability to interact or struggle with the Old Ones?

Eternal Darkness took an alright crack at something similar to it. The protagonists never really interacted with its own pantheon of gods directly, except being used in the cosmic squabble that inevitably got them all killed or worse, iirc.

In practically every game you watch your character die over and over again to the smallest things in the face of an impassive and cruel world, so no, I seriously doubt it would be possible to recapture the feeling of cosmic horror and the helplessness of mortality. Best bet is to see some eldritch abominations as enemies.

You must have played Eternal Darkness already but I think that's the only one with fourth-wall breaking sanity tricks.

Another day another canceled Silent Hill prototype.

How on Earth did Western SH devs not understand Silent Hill? Did they only read the comics or watch the movie?
