For Honor, medieva/historical melee combat

let me confirm i hate ubisoft and i don't advocate purchasing their products but i got into the closed alpha for this game and hell i'm having an unfortunately fun time, it gives me an itch for more kinda cheesy medieval melee combat

also if anyone was wondering, all the half swording they showed off in promo footage isn't actually a moveset its just animations for finishing moves and killing the "soldiers" which are just mobs that die in one hit on the battlefield

so anyone goof around with this alpha? i got an invite and didn't even know it was happening

No and the game was shit, fuck off.

come on man

Consolised garbage

Worst shill posting I have ever seen, get the fuck out, loser.

Weird, thought I saged, oh well.

half chan Holla Forums likes this go play with them

...

those niggas can suck my dick.

i didn't want this thread ot be just about this game since it being from ubisoft means it'll be riddled with horseshit and cash shops by release, but i would like to play more stuff like it

no matter what i do i'll get called a shill, at this point i'll just drop it

Dude it is console shit, this the same engine as fucking AssCreed. Go back to 4chin

just play Chivalry

Then you're stuck with Chivalry or War of the Roses

It looks like shit. It looks like a Western version of a Musou game.

hey i'll drop it, i don't give that much of a shit i was mostly curious

those seem to get a bad rap around here too

player vs player isn't like that, but the mobs are just trash that die in one hit with asscreed animations

That's the problem. Majority of time your killing 100s of NPCs in one hit and they do zero damage to you. It's shit, a few meh fights with other players in between doesn't make it fun.

well not quite, the gamemodes i tries are 1v1 duels, 2v2 duels, or the objective mode where they put trash mobs in the middle objectivel

sageru

I gave up on this piece of shit when the trailer showcased a strong womyn in plate armor, and the villain is another strong, independent cunt.

Leave it to Ubisoft to shit it up.

i was initially put off by throwing a girl onto the battlefield but turns out you can pick the characters gender

its still silly but not enough to annoy me

go to twitch and see this is one of the most watched games right now
of course everyone is playing the fucking samurai

I don't give a shit. Fuck off shill.

i don't follow twitch stuff at all but i guess that makes sense that they'd give some streamer a alpha pass to get free revenue

Tell me about the game play, what made you have a fun time. Is it something that anybody can play but a few can master or is it just simply abuse shit to win.

Give me your opinion.

This entire thread is kneejerk reactions with nobody talking about the gameplay.

If you want to fight the hivemind you must post your opinions about the -gameplay-, and post gameplay vids.

Show everyone that this is an actual game, explain why it's fun to play, and people will get interested.

This entire thread is everything that's wrong with Holla Forums

Face you, you guys just want this place to be Reddit, a board free of things you don't wanna see, its not wonder our PPH keeps dropping.

...

fuck off reddikid

You're way too obvious.

Nah fuck off shill

Why should I care about alpha, especially by ubijews?

...

from the rounds i've played it feels like the better player will always win in a dual thanks to thinks like feints, guard break/recover and stamina bar, or at least the players that work together are guaranteed victory, but i'm sure there's some bullshit meta underneath it waiting to fuck up any good there is in that i just haven't seen yet

there's fun in the maps and the general player vs player gameplay, you can use the environment to your advantage like throwing people off cliffs or into fires and standoffs can be ended in a few strikes in certain cases which can be tense. the classes/heroes/whatever do all feel fairly different and stand on their own save for maybe the guy with the flail

mob combat is throwaway though, its just there to fill in an objective on that particular gametype, i imagine the campaign will be riddled with these shitter enemies and since i'm sure theres more classes/heroes/whatever its not too late for them to have run their course and make a balls out of it

like i said, i'm having fun, i like melee combat that's a little slower and decisive, but i don't place full faith in this studio at all

...

i never said that, i admit my phrasing in the subject line was off because i was talking about for honor OR similar games with historical or medieval themes

yeah, whoever trained that shill needs to be demoted

responding to the obvious shill, unless you're one as well? is this some kind of shill-ops type shit?

nope, just a guy who wanted to talk about a game i played recently and other games where i can kill dudes with swords and axes

here's some porn as tribute and apology for my transgressions

no problem then, just up your shill spotting skills

did you get for honor for pc or ps4? I plan on catching it on sale or 3rd party site at some point during release

More like histori-cool amirite. bazinga.

Fuck off ubishit.

...

a friend of mine gave me a invite to the ps4 version so i gave it a try

at this moment if i could get it for cheap i probably would, but uplay is off putting as fuck and the menus alone in the alpha make it obvious they'll shove some cash/grind shops into the game as well, probably something like what they did with rainbow six siege

imagine : ADDING TWO NEW HEROES, THE SPARTANS for 1million in game dollars or 10 real dollars

theres also gear stats in certain shit i've seen in this alpha and i have no idea if it applies to the objective mode only or its in duels as well

If it's gonna get people this mad, I'm going to start making threads about it myself.

You're not fooling anyone.

can't expect much from ubi
yeah this was a given

havent decided if im going to get it for ps4 or pc yet, I want to go all pc but I'll need something to play on a console

as long as the "skill" part doesnt get meta'd out it could be fun

jeez no need to insult me like that, i might play a casual game now and then but i'm not out here trying to suck nigger cocks

if they do another beta or something i'll play it more, its tough to tell if they've got some meta fuckup lying in wait yet or what off what i've played so far

at least they were smart enough to make it so you're vulnerable during execution animations and make it so the player decides to use them or not

I've been playing the alpha since yesterday afternoon and I think I like the core concepts but the game has a fuckload of massive flaws.
Only three maps in the beta and one sucks ass while the other two are only okay. Transitioning between elevations by ladders is fucking awful since it essentially makes the upper levels an entirely separate battlefield. No fighting can or will ever happen between floors because everything is either gently sloping ramps too narrow to do shit on or sheer ladders you can't attack on. Also means people at the top of the ladder just wait and get free hits on the people climbing up without any counterplay. The battlefields in the middle of the map feel awful to fight in and around because the shitty minions get in the way of everything.
The up/left/right shit works in theory but in practice it's clunky as fuck to switch between them. Regularly I'll try to do a combo switching from like up to left to up and end up getting up up left because it will drop or delay the direction inputs while letting the attack inputs go through normally. Guard breaks and throws are fundamentally broken, the game regularly fails to recognize counter-break inputs so you just eat throw after throw off of ledges to instant death. I've had times where I'm in the middle of sprinting guard breaks on someone only for the game to decide halfway through their stagger animation that they actually input it first so I get broken and thrown instead. The only counterplay to characters mashing light attacks is parries which uses the heavy attack button and the game likes to think you're instead just heavy attacking and lets you get hit in the face even if you're using the exact same input timing against the exact same attacks back to back. If the other team teams up on you 2v1 there's basically nothing you can do, the anti-gang-up "revenge mode" mechanic is complete garbage and 9/10 times the enemies will mash through the bonus HP it gives you while you're still in the activation animation. When multiple enemies attack at once the game often fails to properly show attack indicators for some of them so you'll block one attack just to be hit by another the game refused to show you. Overall everything about input is clunky, unresponsive, imprecise and buggy.
With few exceptions, characters feel pretty fucking samey. Berserker and Orochi have the same deflection parry gimmick except Orochi's is strictly faster and better. Warden and Kensei feel almost the same, one gets guard breaks in combo chains and guard frames on upper lights and the other gets dodge light attacks and an unblockable combo finisher but the way you play them is fundamentally the same. Same goes for the big viking except he gets a retarded unblockable guard break tackle which can carry people a mile and all of them use it to sprint in from behind you while you fight their buddies so it gives no attack indicator and launch you off a cliff. Crusader feels like the other big guys except slow as shit with really shit combos and theoretically he can survive gang-ups better than the others except in practice your tools for it are too unresponsive to work. I really can't imagine how all the characters could feel significantly different when they go up to the full 12 at release.
Menus suck ass, take way too long to load. Going from the main menu to character customization has like two or three pauses for loading. Matchmaking is slow as shit and regularly you try to find a 4v4 and end up with like 3v3 and two bots which you wouldn't think would be happening in a supposedly packed beta server. The system to replace bots with players barely works, once two people have left a lobby you might as well back out and find a new one because they ain't getting replaced. When it does put a player in to replace a bot it just drops them right in where the bot was standing so I've had a few times where I'd be whaling on a bot and halfway through a combo it would turn into a different character and generally die promptly since the player had no clue what was happening. Been on the receiving end of that too. Game is clearly set up to work similar to Rainbow Six Siege, characters are all playable from the start in the beta but you have to unlock them with funds earned from daily quests or end of match rewards to be able to customize them. The gear for customization drops after every match and for some retarded reason has stats so people who've played longer will have characters somewhat stronger than beginners. You can also spend that ingame money to get packs of gear for customization so expect microtransactions to buy more funds for custom gear.

TL;DR think Anarchy Reigns with a bit more of a traditional-esque fighting game combat system filtered through Mount and Blade inputs all basically fucked by Ubisoft's traditional mediocrity with regards to making games.

you made a good post

I played too, I'll try to actually discuss about games instead of just saying shit.

Although the game has a good concept, I think people will get tired of it fast. First because Ubilol servers and shit, it won't work well when more people get in and when Ubi try to jew everyone with their antics.
Second because the game is small, just a few classes, probably some will become OP compared to others once the meta becomes obvious, and the multiplayer games are more or less the same. It is fun… but not for a long period of time.

The combat actually is more deep that it seems at first sight, once you get used to avoid attacks, using skills, some combos to break defense, revenge attacks and mode, etc… so that's actually a thing they got right, but again it limitates the game to one vs one or one vs a lot of people. The mobs are stupid and are there for nothing, the maps are small, the games are just 4vs4… I think people will break the meta really easily since different classes don't really fill any necessity ingame (being a bit faster doesn't really do much when conquering bases and shit).

At the end of the day I think it will happen like with the last Rainbow Six game. It has potential, it is a bit different, but it is fucked by Ubi antics and because these games doesn't really work online that well.

The samurai are probably the most enjoyable to play because they're the most mobile, everyone else moving and attacking feels so fucking clunky and unbearable but with the two samurai you can almost kind of move where you want to while attacking.

Also forgot to say so far the multiplayer "meta" for 4v4 is everyone running in circles around the battlefield playing capture point whack-a-mole and most fights are one sided 2v1 or 3v1 stomps as someone gets caught in the middle of something by a rotating mob. They specifically generally have to be in the middle of something because with few exceptions if they start sprinting before you get to them there's no way to catch up. Anarchy Reigns fixed this by giving chasing players a speed boost but all you can do in this is hope they get caught on some minions or geometry or run into one of your teammates because they can just keep running from you forever. The exceptions are Orochis can generally catch up to the slower people and a few characters have a ranged attack option they can use to try and finish runners off but you don't get access to them until so late in the match that they're generally a non-factor.

Duels are okay though, but only okay. At the point you're playing the game for dueling though you might as well just play Soul Calibur.

better worded than i could have done

is it unblockable? i thought if you quickly re-guared or did a guard break yourself when your guard is broken you could recover

its tough to tell because the game doesn't try to explain shit like that

ALSO ALSO while I'm ranting
There's a mode called Brawl which is 2v2s. I was expecting it to be just a 2v2 version of Dominion, which is the 4v4 mode with the cap points and the minions. What it actually is is just the Duel mode with the same sectioned off chunks of maps albeit slightly larger. What this means is you have 2 1v1 duels and whoever's duel finishes first goes and buttfucks the one remaining enemy in a 2v1. I don't understand why this is a mode at all, it's basically just the "good" gameplay of the Duels followed by every single one ending in the worst part of Dominions. It's pointless.

The tackle may be breakable by a guard break input like other guard breaks but I don't think so, I think it's just an unblockable attack. Either way it's kind of a moot point since you can't react to it at all when all you see of it is a quarter second of your camera zooming out to signify there's another enemy closing in followed by a heat seeking nuclear nordic faggot spearing you from offscreen and over the edge of a cliff with no attack warning UI element.

i'm starting to notice that, conqueror you would think would be valuable in capturing objectives or fighting multiple opponents but he seems to just get left behind due to his bad range

Anyone who didn't see the leaked video on pornhub or on here is a fucking newfag.

i like 2v2. i've won quite a few 2v1 situations since if you play it smart you can separate your foes or force them to hit each other a bit, its by no means a brilliant mode though

Bad range, awful slow combos, the built in parries on heavy attacks barely seem to work, zone attacks being like the worst and least responsive inputs on every character, perfect defense being basically a "guard break me please" sign, like the only thing of value he brings to a team is being able to sprint in and shield bash to ambush people and get an easy knockdown like a budget viking, but he can't even recover from it fast enough to capitalize on that knockdown.

That's just retarded. It was a pretty funny thread though, I wonder if that user got butt fucked by Ubishit for leaking it

its a shame he sucks because i always like to see bashing weapons actually used in a game

"Im so mad I am having fun"
-Holla Forums the post.

It's justifiable anger, Pirates vs Knights vs Vikings sounds like the kind of thing to be made by devs with childlike senses of wonder and instead its fucking greedy corporate shitheads Ubisoft who have to think of it.

Oh hey lets keep bitching about garbage design in this game while I'm on a roll
If I wanted bullshit abilities of this magnitude I'd go back to playing Dota.

And to finish my report off, I just uninstalled after a series of really fucking awful matches that were like playing a checklist of everything that is horrible about the game.
Done with it, and not looking back. Maybe the game could have been decent if made by someone other than Ubisoft who actually knows how to make a netcode and matchmaking and balance shit.
I mean fuck, the MAIN FUCKING MENU FOR MATCHMAKING HAS AN OBVIOUS AND 100% REPEATABLE LIGHTING BUG OCCUR. When the fucking menu that everyone is going to be spending the majority of their time looking at has the ocean constantly flickering because the lighting is fucked that just screams "we don't have a fucking clue what we're doing and we don't really care".

probably the biggest let down with this entire game

It sounds like it's going to be a buggy mess that didn't have enough time and polish put into it to iron out the design. It's too bad because I was really hopeful for the game, I was expecting this because it's Ubishit but it's still a letdown since the game looked pretty neat.

I'll probably pirate it just to try out the combat in singleplayer but it seems like the game was designed around multiplayer because we haven't had enough games that waste all their potential on fucking multiplayer yet.

On the upside with the singleplayer you'll theoretically never have to deal with inputs being dropped or attacks failing because of the netcode. I say theoretically because odds are it will be always online and the singleplayer will have to be played on ubisoft servers like terrorist hunt in Siege. You'll still have to deal with dropped inputs and failed attacks from the shitty programming either way.
On the downside like half of some of the characters skill sets are about being able to supposedly cancel one move into another for mind games which will never work on bots, I say supposedly because all the ones I tried the inputs never worked and I never saw anyone else manage them either.
I guess that's not really so much of a downside then since they'll work just as well on bots as on players, i.e. not at all.

My connection isn't the best so if the netcode is as bad in the actual game as it is in the alpha you played then I won't even be able to play the multiplayer. I just want a fun singleplayer game where I can run around as a knight in heavy armour and smite my foes, it looked like it might be fun for that but the multiplayer focus means the singleplayer will probably be shit.

I wish I could say it's hard to believe they make a game focused on multiplayer and then kill it with bad servers, netcode and input delay but this is not only a AAA dev in current year, it's Ubisoft so it's sadly as expected.

Wait this game is only 8 players max moba (from the sounds of it) shit? No massive battles? No epic sieges and arrows whizzing past your head?

I remember seeing the trailer but didn't realise I would be *this* disappointed. Ahh well, another shitty game in [current year].

buy bannerlord and ignore this shit. Problem solved ;)

I'd be tempted to check this out and maybe even buy it if not for being forced to use uPlay shit. Even when I play a pirated Ubisoft game you still need that fucking shit installed. God damn.

This game doesn't really play well. Basically it's like you fighting some guy for one minute playing simon says, you pick a direction and they have like half a second to parry that direction(of course it's highlighted because why even bother making animations that show which direction the attack is coming from when you can put a hud element). It keeps going like that until someone guardbreaks the other with a shield bash or something similar and then wails on the other player for some damage, repeat.
It's also filled to the brim with shitty NDA markers. I get you don't want people to realize how shit the game is from the get go but I don't need to see my ign a thousand times during gameplay.

Come play Chivalry with me anons and avoid this travesty of a game.

Shit's pretty dead unfortunately. It was pretty good in its heyday but now there are max 30 people playing. If I wasn't a stickler for historical accuracy I'd go play Chivalry or M&B's multplayer.

For Honor looks shit.

I thought VS ruined that game and that is why it is now abandoned

At least the animations are good and there's singleplayer.

Also that.

Will it portray samurai accurately as 5" tall manlets that can't fight for shit?

Don't go looking for historical accuracy, you won't find it.

It's a game which will involve Samurai fighting knights and not getting completely fucking stomped, do you think they are bothered about accuracy?

The tears would make me buy two copies though

To be fair it's not the kind of game that aims for accuracy, it's more for fun. I can't help but feel some Ubishit execs thought it needed to be taken seriously though and so demanded some retarded plotline about time travel and shit.

Why are people talking about accuracy? Did you guys forget the story trailer about how the world ended or something and all people had left was the scrolls for combat.

no since the samurais swords don't break instantly when fighting the knights

during the initial trailers there was some hooplah that "they finally got longswords right" because they showed a guy use a halfsword technique

in game half-sword attacks are just finishing animations

...
