He is basically riding on the Bernie Sanders type 'democratic socialism' platform this year (even literally cited Sanders as his inspiration). He's already been a huge let down in prior presidential elections (promising carbon copy PS policies that were never passed by the PS, but that he'll surely pass!) and it doesn't help that, whether he was complicit in it or not, this pic of him leading a few people subtitled in the news as 'Huge Front de Gauche marches in Paris!' was deceptive and had at most a hundred participants. In essence, he's a left-liberal/social democrat with big words and that's about it. I'm abstaining again this year; it's all garbage.

Yes, he is a loser like us.

But seriously, what are the chances that he gets more votes than Macron? And what are the chances that he gets more votes than Fillon? Seems impossible.

She's super hot and uses populist rhetoric, but she's not any different deep down. It's just your penis playing tricks on you. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Maybe they need a crypto-left populist "neither left nor right" party first, to get as much votes as possible. Right now they are swerving directly to the right. In the elections they will ultimately be choosing between a right winger and a far-right winger.

crypto-left
You pretend to be a general anti-establishment party while you have lefty policies formulated in non-lefty terms so that right-leaning people don't get triggered.

Don't know man, I used to be 100% anti-vote, now I reconsider because of the overton window thingy. Early 2016 was great with Nuit Debout and all the street resistance to the labor law, but now the law has passed so the social movement died. I think I will probably not vote in 2017, hoping other frogs will do the same, so that the man or woman :^) elected will lose all credit.

don't vote

less than 50% voted

Why don't nuit debout & co. vote for Melonschon? And maybe Front national would be great for revitalizing your street resistance, although I doubt you can achieve much at street level.

Why don't nuit debout & co. vote for Melonschon?
Some of them will, but I think a lot of ND people lost their faith in representative democracy/the party form. Maybe because a lot of them probably voted for Hollande.

And maybe Front national would be great for revitalizing your street resistance
I am not sure I want to walk the accelerationnist path. It's tempting, but getting a right-wing populist in power can make right wingers lose their shit and attack/harass people in the street (see Trump election).

Oliver Phillips

doubtful, France is different from 'murrica.

Holland was known to be too weak to become president.
however, by odd turn of event, he ended up against Sarkozy which everyone hated.
he was elected because people dislike Sarkozy.

as for the faith of the left, i think that ship has sailed.
the PS will not win any election in the next decade at least.
the usual voters already moved to the far left (Melonchon) or the center-right (Juppé).

there is no real anti-system trend going on.
most French people are old and live a pretty cozy life, they don't really want to risk what they have.

as for the FN (Le Pen) i'm not sure why the polls give her that much.
i read French right-wing news websites daily and lurk forums on occasion.
and while they agree with her idea about immigration, they still think the rest of her program is suicidal and that her and her movement are unfit to be in charge.

Luke Barnes

they still think the rest of her program is suicidal
Like? I'm particularly interested in suicidal policies that today's parties have to offer.

So french politics are being stalled by boomers or whatever the french equivalent is?
Is france is one of those countries where the population's age bell curve is over 40?

Christian Roberts
Christian Roberts

they have a Trump like program, it looks nice on paper and everything is perfect, the problem is, its impossible to do, only the naive fools fall for it.
getting out of the Euro and spending money like no tomorow.
they intend to raise the number of government workers to millions !

their economic program will either multiply French debt by 10 (assuming anyone would want to lend them money) or flat out go bancrupt.

i'm not even talking about their social program.
the FN is infested with GI (identarian). basically the European version of the Alt-right. except they're slightly smarter and more subtile then their American counterpart.
byt the goal is pretty much the same.

Julian Peterson

Is france is one of those countries where the population's age bell curve is over 40?
according to wiki the median age in France is 40

Ethan Edwards

Will PS support the far left or the center right?

Jose Lopez
Jose Lopez

Yeah, I'm not French but I always found FN to be so delusional that there's noting to be afraid of. Yet everybody in EU keeps screaming about the dangers of far-right coming to power.

Luke Perry
Luke Perry

the French election is in two rounds, the PS will naturally ally themselves with whoever is against the far-right.
obviously, they would prefer it to be the left, but they already pushed for a conservative right in 2002 (Chirac).

the FN are indeed delusional, they think that closing the border and kicking the brown will solve everything.
meanwhile, they have the worst social and economical program ever assembled.
its literally Trump tier, disconnected from reality.
their politicians (as few as they are) are notoriously incompetent end up fucking over every place they're in charge of, they also have a high rate of corruption and money laundering.

like every far-right, they pretend to moral high ground while being literal bastards.
