2D Action Platformers

What are some god tier 2D action games worth playing? Preferably with co-op multi and available to emulate on a hacked Wii?

Pic related save for the multiplayer

ZANDATSU
CUT WHAT YOU WILL

Gunstar Heroes
Metal Slug

Also, maybe..
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Rayman Origins

No idea if most of these can be played on a wii though.

Rocket Knight Adventures (original)
Contra Hard Corps
Gunstar Heroes
Ranger X

Excellent choices

From the SNES front:
>Actraiser I & II

Among many, many others.
Not thread related, but Goof Troop is an excellent co-op experience

Anyway, check out Snow Bros. and Bubble Symphony if you like CAG's.

You run & gun for about 20% of the game tops.

Valdis Story if you're in for JUST the action and nothing else

Huh, so what are you doing while fighting all those bosses? Just standing there and getting hit?

I can vouch for this gaming being amazing

By that logic any game is run & gun.
Stop being retarded.
Metal Slug is run & gun, Alien Soldier isn't.

Oh yeah, Vectorman is also a pretty cool dude.

Cleans up alien garbage and doesn't afraid of anything

Trinity of Genesis action platformers, Sanic has no action whatsoever other than jumping and spinning.
NEVER play the american release of Dynamite Headdy. Get the fab translated JP rom instead which is free of localization and has the cut content.

Really diggin all this Genesis love. Here's my contribution.

Also im not fucking Val.

Momodora

Woops, looks like you missed one friendo

The REAL Holy Grail of Genesis action plats

3D is superior to 2D, therefore 2D is inferior and you are literally autistic if you play anything with 2D in it.

Not the fucking 90's anymore, asshole.

I feel like everyone I knew with a Genesis had this except me. I don't even remember if it was any good, but I remember playing it a lot.

The worst part is that there is a lot of people who actually think that.

It's still pretty good. I wish 7-Up would bring this guy back.

"Get to the choppa!"

>friend says "man, wouldn't it be awesome if there was a game that was just boss battles?"

I mean I still played the game myself and wound up loving it, but seriously.
He also didn't want to play a game if it didn't have guns in it, but in hindsight I think that was just his personal preference since I remember watching him play Kingdom Hearts.

Megaman Zero introduced me to action platformers and I haven't been able to enjoy anything since.
Instead I just play the MMZ series every year.

End my life.

MMZX is shit.
