Read the whole thing, I don't see the problem with a multiplayer mode in their games, but I bet that would be impossible to pull off with Quantum Break. Maybe that means they gave up on that IP for now.

Ensemble, Rare, and now Remedy, rip in peace.

The last time they released a real game(ie not for iOS or Android) that wasn't financed by Microsoft was in '2003 with Max Payne 2. Alan Wake was in development for 6 years. Quantum Break for 5. Both were flops.

They might as well be owned by Microsoft. No other publisher out there would accept such production length and cost for little to no return. They milked that contract for all it was worth and then some.


You'd think it was one of the greatest games of that generation with a massive fanbase if you go off what Polygon says about it.

What does Quantum Break even play like?

Since you're talking about it even when you don't like it, it might become prominant enough people consider it requiring memorisation.

Multiplayer was/is ok when assumptions about the good nature of people can be made.

Maybe Remedy don't want to be blamed for things. The community getting the attention if things go badly. Seperating themselves from their product.

Or they don't have a story to tell.
Heres how a MP game could work for them, because I liked Alan Wake and Max Payne:

1. Nobody will play it if it's not a FPS. May be great, but nobody will give a fuck. MP is plug in controller, repedatively get killed running around shooting things, nothing cinematic appreciated.

2. MP needs lots of real world guns and customisation. And grinding to get it all. Because people want time off thinking about other stuff. Feel advancement earning stuff in game.

3. Make real skills the selling point. People can memorise tying knots, identifying edible plants, fixing engines, etc. Amongst killing people.

4. No pseudo realistic story. Just milshit. As much as can be scanned.

5. Will need a constant 60fps. Maybe 120fps. The best controls will win out. Authentic milshit will sway the rest. Weapons should perform and handle realistically. Don't sell it as a milsim.

6. Needs an offline botmatch as well as multiplayer split-screen.

7. Needs a freeroam mission based story, wander around killing the bad guys ie everyone.

8. Need every building enterable.

9. Models need to be realistic, so hand and guns 2D, but look slightly better than the rest rendered in the same engine.

10. Low res will enable higher detail but will be complained about. Complaints will make it well known but fuck up social playing. Being a worthless game will have people playing COD instead. So pay the parasites to bullshit as is their profession. A few prominant websites saying somethjg posative will have all the other parasites follow suit. That's how it is. People are as much to blame for giving them attention as the parasites are for talking shit.

11. Nobody will give a fuck about fancy effects. But they will about a general consistancy. Use 360 COD complexity character models. Milshitted up. No performance animations. They do as they're doing.

12. People will care about animations. They look good. Not as much as a detailed world though. Get a world looking good before getting the chars moving good. Usually the quality of chars is far more important. 360 COD models are good enough. Will be seen to be shot.

13. No mega download sizes. Needs to remain playable from disc.

14. Needs to become playable from the instant the disc is inserted. Use loadout customisation to cover load screens.

15. Don't need distance. Cover it in objects. Look around and see building and stuff except for single player.

16. No objectives. Lots of bots. Just shoot everything and stay alive. Maps could be better than freeroam for multiplayer to save walking. People don't like walking.

17. No cheat weapons. Only assault rifles of different makes. Play as grunt. No drama. Primary weapons in local variants from the world over for people to identify with their own Army playing as it. Secondaries too. Shitloads of customisation in accessories and internal configurations, rounds used etc. No exceptions to country.

18. Few things said but said in local tongues.

19. No music, conventional drama music may seem required. Replace it with war sounds.

21. Plenty of ammo and fast mag changes. Should be firing constantly. Relevant compromises eg higher capacity mags for less accuracy and total ammo count.

22. Balance weapons. So each country has some arguable best to it. Russian weapons for example jamming less but having a slower fire rate. Also decrease jams by filling mags less. Get used to using secondary up close. Which should be drawn much faster than a jam is cleared. Various jams.

23. Points per kill going toward costs of weapons and equip buyable at set times. Plan ahead, dropped gear may be stolen though. The weapon/country you pick at the start costing the most to upgrade. Everyone's picked country weapon working the best during single player.

24. No character heads. Balaclava on. Select preferred skin colour

26. Encourage player. Virtual boot camp. Detect pushups situps in front of system and add that to player endurance in game. Include that as optional in multiplayer. Good for contests. Those who do the most pushups etc start out the best equipped in matches. Do during loading screen after selecting loadout. Maybe more than boot camp after so much of it or detect new players by build. The more done the more advanced the stuff. Disabled people no privalages. Need to do some shit. Any exprcise is better than none. No pity, someone else has done it harder. Should be disgusted at pity always, same for cruelty. Have some sembelance of honour to gameplay. Better rewards the less cruel.

Good enough get to play as own faction. Start with no weapons.
If starting as own faction don't have to shoot everyone. Go around and stop the bad guys taking over. Nope, shit stops here. Save some lives look after people after breaking them out. Search for prisoners to let out. Stop people from being made so on the way.

What can set it apart from COD:

1. Lower res and vhs effects. This will instantly allow for better visuals. At 270i the XBOX1 is about thrice as powerful as a PS4.

2. No input lag. Most games will use prerended frames to reduce stutter and improve framerate. Fuck it off. Better no lag. No deadzone. Receive and act upon all received input. Worth the performance cost. Reduce other sounds in comparison.

3. Realism. Should scare the living shit out of people. Pvt Pyle stuff. Either you get it and he's the good guy or you're not remotely human.

4. No drama, backstory etc. Start immediately with a gun shooting. No propaganda in load screens. Bots depicted as real people.

5. Realistic shot effects, guts spilling out and so on. Screams and smiles. No way for anything to comply or resist, many trying something in hope, nope.

6. No disclaimers.

7. Difficulty modes are hidden campeigns.

People who pick solo first unlocking a hero acheivement.

8. Time of day light cycle. Aiding realism. Single player with 1 shot death requiring a total restart. Shitloads of enemies. The 99.99999etc percent.

9. No humor, takes itself seriously. Players expected to take it seriously too. No kid filter. No drama gore just the realistic effects of shooting someone.

10. Real reasons to shoot enemies present, such as prisons, police and students.

11. Killable children.

12. Should be obvious something is shot, havok/physx combined with animations and desperation or continued resistance, appeals, vomit, screams etc

13. Other side tortures, and anything doing so has joined the other side.

14. Always outnumbered. Eg: a torture camp with a base next to it in a city full of people in support of it.

15. Enemies are better at moving and aiming than you and can hit at longer distances.

16. Food, water and sleep affect performance.

17. No ending. Gets harder to impossible. After maxing out character in game get a screen showing photographs of what the player is in support of. Kids getting their brains cut out, women spending their lives in cells etc.
