Graphically intensive vidya

After saving up for several months, I've just finished building my first powerful computer, ever.

GTX 1060 3GB, Intel i5 3.4GHz, 16GB of ram, 120GB SSD, and 2 TB of space to store porn on.

What good games are graphically intensive? I remember having to pass on playing a lot of good shit because of my old shitty toaster.

Congratulations, you can now play all the shitty unoptimized console ports that require triple the power compared to the visual results, and various spreadsheet simulators and don't forget dorf fort and mountain blade.

And that's sorta it.
Most mustards on Holla Forums don't really play video games anymore and use their expensive rigs to just shitpost on Holla Forums all day.

you wasted your money

You bought overpowered hardware that shouldn't be necessary but because nobody can optimize anymore it is.

Witcher 3 and emulation is all that is going to make you feel good about your investment.

citation needed

The most demanding games currently are just optimized like shit. So technically you expanded your library, but in a sad sort of way.
Pirate arkham knight I guess.

Well, I won't tell you what to play, but I will tell you what I've been playing recently. I've been playing Thief Gold, currently stuck on the Thieves Guild mission. Fuck, that level is huge, and maybe it's just me but I get the feeling that the AI can be inconsistent as fuck. Anyway, I've just finished Witcher 1 yesterday. I tried doing a neutral route but somehow ended up siding with Elves. I really didn't want that, but whatever. I don't give a shit either way, I just wanted to see the game through to the end. It's basically a point and click adventure game with MMO style quests and a really lengthy main quest that takes forever to get going, but it was alright. About to start Witcher 2 and see how that game fares. After that, I'll get around to playing Deus Ex 1 and Fallout 1 and 2. I've had Morrowind on my hard drive for the past year but it's one of those games that you need to force yourself to get into, but I'll get around to that one, too. I've completed Fallout New Vegas about a month ago but I need to go back and play the DLC, so there's that.

None of these games are really all that graphically intensive but who gives a shit about that. Better hardware doesn't always equate to better graphical output, it can also simply mean better performance. Try playing any of the console versions of the games I just mentioned and try and tell me they don't play like shit compared to their PC counterparts

There are none, sorry.

Time to emulate Ridge Racer V in PCSX2, OP. I want to see if OGL plugin with your new nVidia card fixes the texture caching problem.

lol. Get crysis

A 750ti can run Crysis
Not exactly hardware intensive

Dying Light is fairly intensive maxed out with those heavy shadows and all those filters

Redout is well optimized, but with a 1060 you can push it to epic settings

Deus Ex MD is pretty fucking heavy, looks great but isn't super optimized

Witcher 3 is fairly intensive

Crysis 3 is still fairly heavy maxed out

Now you can go sail the high seas without game quality issues, the sky is the limit when you can download and see everything for yourself

The Talos Principle is a bit graphically intensive

They're not completely wrong. (Of course they're in a far worse position but they know that as well.) There's nothing worth playing on PC that you couldn't play on an older computer. Maybe you'd get some results in emulation performance boosts but that's about it. I upgraded maybe two years ago and I don't even have a want, much less a need, to upgrade any time soon.

Nigger I've got a R7360 and it's already my bitch. Max settings and all.

OP, those 16GBs better fucking be DDR4 RAM or thats pretty sad. I would've held off on the SSD and gotten a 1TB HDD instead to put that shit towards an i7 and DDR4

Oh cool lets see.

GTX 1060 3GB mid tier
Intel i5 3.4GHz, mid tier
16GB of ram full retard amount
, 120GB SSD Brazil tier
and 2 TB of space to store porn on.
mid tier.

With that rig you might be able to play GTA:V and 4 modded. But that's pretty much it.

Than you're crazy, because an SSD does a hell of lot more of a difference than picking an i7 over an i5

You're supposed to have a list of gaays you wanted to play BEFORE you spend cash on a cisteam.

...

...

It largely depends on the game, most of the time you'll be playing. Since most online shooters for example load maps to RAM first you wont be seeing much of a benefit from SSDs

Hell, I've gotten away with playing heavy streaming games like GTA V on a 5200RPM HDD with an i7 and DDR4 RAM. HDDs aren't that big a bottleneck, in fact, if you download all your games first so they're closest to the center of the platter and have all your shit defragged the difference is minimal

Honestly, investing in a better processor and faster RAM should be a bigger priority . Because again, most games are loaded to RAM first anyways

why? I thought preliminary tests showed it wasn't that much better than DDR3? Have they finally improved the timings?

I hope you realize those "preliminary tests" compared late-gen high end DDR3 RAM to early-gen lower-end DDR4 RAM.

Try 600.

I have 16GB of DDR2.

And two floppy drives.

And a ZIP drive.

There really isn't anything OP. If you wanted gwaficks should have just got a ps4.

You can play some western multiplats. There's also plenty of great Japanese doujin games to try out, but something tells me you wouldn't be into those.

Yes, I figured the improvements aren't instantaneous, much like CPUs have a cycle of development. Have they drastically improved since they've been made more available to the general consumer?

...

there isn't really anything better looking on PC than uncharted 4 or bloodborne.

Have fun with that bloatshit called Gameworks and the fucking driver it self. Dumb ass.

You must be over 18 and not from reddit to post here

Consider this

Even buying a low-tier DDR4 module is going to give you performance comparable to significantly better than a high-tier DDR3 module. You have nothing to lose except for your wallet, and prices of DDR4 have been driven down through aggressive promotion

Also if you want to get a new processor past Skylake you'll have no choice but to get DDR4

comparisons between DDR3 and DDR4 for consumers is meaningless anyways, either you have a Z97 or earlier which only accept up to DDR3, or you have a Z170 or X99 which only accept DDR4.

customers realy wont bump into a situation where they choose between DDR3 and DDR4 they will just buy the RAM appropriate for the motherboard as dictated by their CPU socket.

i've had 16GBs since the ddr2 days
fight me faggot

also the performance difference doesn't really matter for consumer applications since RAM is rarely a bottleneck

Nigger WHAT?!
RAM is almost ALWAYS the main bottleneck on a PC after HDD I/O

...

come on fam if you're going to pretend to be retarded on a shitpost at least do it to people who aren't being constructive

I'm sorry, is there somehow something incorrect about my statement?

What a waste of money. You could bought a motorcycle.

Not like I can dry it though, because motorcycle license

What backwards country do you live in, the US?

Yes
The rule is anything that goes over 20mph requires a license to drive At least in California

Latest games are trash but Shogun 2 is great and Attila is good with the right mods. Both of those are demanding and look great.

First thing that comes to mind. Other than that you can play the good AAA titles of the last couple of years

Even still, all of these games would run alright on a rig half of the price you probably paid. It's hard to justify paying a lot for PC hardware.

I was poking fun at you using dry instead of drive, I know motorcycle licenses exist. Kinda makes sense since it's a different handling entirely from cars/trucks though.

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate

fuck I didn't catch that I need to stop posting for a few hours

Pretty good, I personally would've went for an i7 for Arma 3 but nice either way.

everything because ram is not a bottleneck considering how fast it is compared to everything else

Thats completely wrong unless you have a really shitty CPU, the CPU and GPU will typically be the fastest components I/O wise. Most bottlenecks come cfrom RAM I/O or HDD I/O

fuck no. ram is only a bottleneck if you don't have enough of it

I know you don't understand the difference between ram and hdd speeds because the difference between them because ram is about 10000 times faster than hdd storage, and that's an incredibly generous estimate.

The amount of time it takes for ram to read/write is described in nano seconds. The amount of time it takes for an HDD to read/write is described in miliseconds. I know you don't know what you're talking about. The only issue someone can have with ram is if you don't have enough of it. The difference between a generation of ram technology is a world of difference.

Seriously, take some time to read how this shit works, you clearly don't know a fucking thing and it's just a little embarrassing to see it. I assume you're a PC gamer, right?

Not if you already have 16GB of RAM you silly billy.

You deserve to be killed.

As I stated before, its almost always the main bottleneck after HDD I/O. Your RAM will be a bottleneck before your CPU/GPU are

How about you go fuck yourself because I've been reading this shit for years you projecting pile of shit. CPU speed has been increasing exponentially while RAM speed was never a priority until very recently when the bottleneck started becoming more apparent

once again, I need to stress you really, really don't know what you're talking about. Please do more research.

You are a PC gamer, right?

After saving for several months, I got myself a nice laptop with Cubase and a proper synthesizer keyboard. Now I'm having fun with it.

you are this retarded

I really need to stress, you absolutely have no idea what you're talking about. You need to do more research. You're a PC gamer, right? I have a hard time believing anyone talking about anything remotely technical can be so uninformed on such basic things.

It's 2016, fam.

Your right man, its obviously my CPU slowing me down, I was going to get faster RAM but you showed me there's no way that could be slowing I/O speeds in memory intensive applications. I'll just swap that instead

your cpu is likely to be a more severe bottleneck than memory.

If you have a particularly shitty CPU sure.

I think he's trying to say that no game properly saturates the bus for RAM I/O thus meaning that it's not a bottleneck, and rather that raw processing power is usually more important. Now if you were doing somethig like running a server in nothing but a RAMdisk, RAM will obviously be your bottleneck, but that's a fairly atypical use case of most of these computers.

RAM speed is irrelevant 90% because of the CPU’s cache; it will only give a notable speed up if you’re working with large datasets (greater than your CPU’s largest cache) exclusively on the CPU (e.g. non-hardware accelerated video editing).

Clearly you haven't seen CS grads' code or tried to run any modern games.

I have pic related and it runs everything that I bother to play at 60fps on max on my stylish not quite 1080 5:4 flatscreen monitor and it probably cost me about 900 burger coupons all inclusive, have had it for about 2 years now, and never had any problems with it.

Having to spend several thousand dollars on a gaming machine is a meme and blatantly untrue. You'll find recent games being so shit you won't even want to play them and old games being either well optimised or not needing the kind of power to run that modern games do making a massive, expensive upgrade pointless.

It doesn't have to take expensive hardware to look good, it just has to be designed well. If it's well optimised then the game won't need the same power to run the same looking game. If you want to look at something beautiful, go on a hike out into a forest. You'll probably get the same gameplay experience as x modern game too.
I've got a sneaking suspicion you're a gigantic faggot who is trying to bait for a consolewar thread.
why do people do this?

pc gaming and pc gamers are cancer

Because I asked for games and 95% of the thread is shitposting

nice meme

minimal performance increases for gaming i5 is for us who don't want give our organs to "our greatest ally" at intel.

Believe it or not, gothic 2 with directx11 and the graphics mods is pretty intensive.

Rome 2 with Divide et Impera mod, set everything to max.

NuDoom with 8xmsaa looks great and its a good game, lots of poorfaggots here on Holla Forums shitalking it because their potato PCs cant run a fucking engine from the last gen

You can pick any game and go mental with the resolution and filtering and your PC will sweat

I thought the biggest complaint was that there's a hard limit to the number of enemies that can be active at a time and the number of enemies that can be present in a level.

the only thing that pops is a blue shield and some of the powerups

Maybe on your shit ass 14' crt monitor

I doubt OP spent that much. I paid maybe $900 for the rig I have, which is cheaping out on the mobo but having 16GB of DDR3, a Xeon, R9 Nano, and a 750GB HDD. Works fine for everything I can throw at it and multitasks extremely well.

This and Denuvo.

have you actually played the game?

No. Gaming and gamers are cancer.

you didn't fell for the 4k gaming meme so i'll give you that, on the other hand see pic related

I got a 6GB GTX 1060 a few weeks back and played Witcher 3 at long last. Loved it. Performance is a bit wonky though. Some areas are smooth as silk, others chug quite bad. Everything set to ultra other than foliage and population.

...

I have the same doubt about you.
You can see enemies from a mile away because their eyes and stuff pop out, most of the game has a sci-fi look with little blood. Even hell doesnt look red for most of the time, the hell fire is fucking green.

one job
ONE JOB

sorry fam but you got robbed

go play dune 2000, tiberian sun or warwind

if you preffer shooting games i would recomend the eduke (duke nukem 3d with 3d models for weapons/enemies and better textures) or things like project brutality and demon steele for gzdoom

maybe some old shadow warrior too.

fuck, forgot image

play as close to vanilla as you can or GTFO

you're just going to destroy the charm and aesthetic the devs wanted you to see

Jesus, you just won't stop whining.

...

those 3d models looked like shit 10 years ago they look like shit today

don't tell me what to do faggot

Parasitism isn't videogames. Stay away from journalists.

bumppppp

You're full of shit.

Something tells me you don't actually know the toaster struggle.

There's nothin really worth playing, hell most of the time you'll probably shitpost on Holla Forums instead of actually playing games.

See if your browser can handle opening every single thread in the catalog. If that works, try hitting "expand all images" on each, too.

That'll be more fun than most of the graphically intensive games released in the past year, if only for a few minutes.

I never had a good gaming computer before. I just didn't pay attention to most graphically intensive games lately.

My main intent was to be able to run Unreal Engine 4 properly since I'm making a vidya.

What are you, some kind of poorfag? Also
Why didn't you just get the 480? Are you retarded as well as poor?

Sims and racing games tend to look good if your are into that, I just upgraded from a 670 to a 1070 and I'm loving sims hard right now.
I also went to 144hz, you can tell the difference.

Fair enough. Good luck on your developer endeavors.

The Forest
Subnautica

And let me guess stock heat sink and case stock fans. You now have a very expensive space heater.

there's no way someone genuinely believes people can only "see" 30fps, they're just widespread shitposters. Fuck i remember autistically looking for a specific crt so i can play vidya at 300fps

The BBC did a heap of research with 300 participates of different ages and sexes to find what was the best framerate to build future TV to support. They found 300fps was the highest framerate 90% of people would see a difference with but males in their 20s often saw improvement up to 750fps.

you are retarded

Rather than ask anons why not try doing some reasearch to figure out if there is a tool to tell you if you setup meets the specs for a game.
