Better than Pokemon. Tangentially the same as Shiren. Pokemon swaps out Shiren's rogue like mechanics for much better improved party system and the combat system is actually pretty amazing. I love both but it's hard to choose between the two.

I actually just finished getting the team I wanted set up the other day.
Masquerain's one of the best room-clearers, and Yanmega's Tinted Lens ability makes it perfect for AI control since it can't mess up by using the wrong type. They've got the right IQ-type too; leader with Trap Seer and partner with Trap Avoider is the only way to go.
Got all the best Exclusive Items for them too, but I ended up banking the Sky Gem when I realized semi-permanent double speed means you have to wait for escorts to catch up.
Only real downside is that I don't have Damp to stop Skuntanks and Drifblims from being (more) annoying…

Each of them has its own contained story, so you could start with any of them. Explorers of Sky is the best overall, though I hear Super Mystery Dungeon is almost as good.
The only one you shouldn't play is Gates to Infinity.

The last boss was the same from Gates, the facebook friend system was fucking retarded and the guild was pretty underwhelming.
The only good thing was some of the characters

Tactics Ogre PSP is kinda grindy if you want good equipment, the ability to get Necromancers (you have to recruit people of a certain faction and have them die over and over to increase your rep with them), if you want the Lich class, you have to go to floor 40 of a bonus dungeon to get ONE ring that switches classes, Basically if you step into the wrong route first playthrough, you're in for a heavy grinding session.

Also FUCK GOLEMS and pretty much any big type monster enemy like those fucking octopuses. The battles themselves are like grinding sessions.

a pretty good dungeon crawler rpg with a relatively deep story line for a pokemon game. The fugitive run is probably my favorite arc and is really the best arc.
Improves on the previous game in every single way. better story line (expedition part was pretty neat), refined the previous dungeon crawling aspects and added more mechanics.
imagine gold/silver compared to crystal and youve pretty much got it.

Because, user, Nemesis was supposed to be a spinoff of the main series. If you notice not much was added in, story wise. While Code Name: Veronica was supposed to be the real sequal. But some sony contract demanded a mainline game for their console, thus Nemesis was changed to 3. If you notice, Veronica added far more to the mythos of RE than Nemesis. Nemesis added in Nemesis only while everything thing else is recycled material. It's basic RE knowledge.

Summon Night, a tactical RPG series. There's a number of spin off games, and prior to SN5, the only entries the west had gotten were Swordcraft Story 1 and 2 and Twin Age.

Much better gameplay, more detailed customization with more shit that actually matters because of the better gameplay, a less mind numbing story, and a better unlock system, & Knuckles

Does Fallout New Vegas count? HoMM sure belongs here. World of Warcraft beats WC1-3, at least vanilla and TBC do.

The trick is that it's not just a spinoff of one series
The layton half is definitely weaker, but the ace attorney half is only made stronger by having puzzles take the place of the mindless point and click segments
And personally, the intense layton-flavoring the story has makes the mystery solving in the trial segments better too

Knuckles Chaotix is kinda fun and could be a better Sonic game than the main series, except that tether mechanic is just way too hard to get used to.

Tails Adventure is where it's at.

I am playing this right now. The melee combat is somewhat questionable. All those memes about it being a kicking simulator are absolutely true. You are almost required to exclusively utilize environmental kills on higher difficulties cause magic and weapons don't do shit.

Still fun though. Has a lot of similarity to Deus Ex in it's design.

Fucking burgerclaps hating the best character in the Zelda franchise meant that one of the best games in the franchise never got released here.
