Counter-productive advertising

is this supposed to be appealing? it makes me want to NOT find out more about the product advertised

post more examples of advertising that made you completely write-off the game, I guess

Yeah, I know these games are supposed to have appealing end-games, but missing the entire journey in the name of that seems really… Stupid.

That ad reminds me of ads for shady penis enhancement drugs.

WC3 custom map grew into it's own genre (let's leave out it's target audience & quality)
WoW degrading into that genre PVE form with one gate play aka raid and/or PVE-less form aka arena.

Am I the only one who feels like leveling has always been a weird mechanic?

Leveling, and by extension, grinding, has always felt weird to me. Grinding hasn't been a vaguely interesting mechanic since the earliest RPGs, so why does it seem that almost all RPGs require grinding to advance? Am I retarded, or does leveling in general feel like nothing but a gameplay extender in almost every incarnation?

Agreed. I remember I could never bring myself to not lvl any of my characters in any MMO. It didnt feel like my character unless I did it all myself.

These make a collectible pair

It appeals to dumbasses that want to get to the flashy cool cool stuff ASAP.

Even if you look at leveling as a timesink, it's not a very good one as it takes no more than a week to get to max level, not even a month's worth of subscription. Blizzard could have done away with leveling a few expansions ago as nobody likes it and it adds nothing to the game. In Legion's case, you don't even get new skills as you level, it adds nothing towards the feeling character progression.
In WoW expansions, what do you think they spend the most time on? I think it's safe to say the quests and leveling. If they spent that time on designing raids and dungeons, they'd probably be able to make actual good raids again.
If there's ever going to be a themepark MMO that hits WoW levels of success, I doubt it will have the mountains of menial quests for leveling like all the others do.

Thanks for taking me back to good days of Atari and BG3, fam

It sickens me knowing some /a/ tier fuck got some sense of joy out of my post. Go back there and never return, weeb.

I remember in Ghotic the way the world was build it made sense to level.
You could potentially go whereever you wanted, yet had to face increasingly harder enemies along the way, up to the point that they could oneshot you.
Leveling meant to get stronger in the sense that you could finally kill that fucking Shadowlurker that one-shoted you in the forest right at the beginning of Ghotic 2.
It was a progression that made sense in the world build around it.

Sometimes you get shit like Oblivion though, where you have that fucked-up level scaling enemies, which destroy any sense of progression with your character.

At least in MMOs you can team up with other players and work together to finish some boss that would be next to impossible alone.

The weird thing is the game is less fun if you boost so that's pretty counterproductive.

You're in the wrong place to be complaining about weebs.

I've never been to /a/. I'm glad posting smug pics booty bothered you, though.

source tho

Let's not forget Tencent owns 12% of Actiblizzard shares and is a main investor.
WoW is slowly going from a PC RPG simulator to a mobile game, and it'll eventually become one.

Yeah, level-scaling games make levels pointless. There's literally no reason to have levels if the enemies and the world aren't designed and hand-placed around them. In a fully level-scaling game, you could get rid of levels entirely and just replace the mechanics tied into player leveling with perks and points based on experience or actions.

Yeah it's getting there.

try doing the journey several times over and over.
It gets boring, even when you've taken every alternative path

Sorry, could have SWORN this was the video game board, not the "39 year old pedophile living in his mothers basement taping his eyes sideways" board.

The celebrity shit was fucking retarded. Corporate fucking shills.

Well if you've realized your mistake, you can leave.

No, fuck off. You are on the wrong board, shithead. I will never understand why shitposting non vidya crap on Holla Forums is always tolerated.

he's not, but you are

Don't come to our board, without understanding how shit works around here, demanding that we either change or leave.
It's been this way since the board was created so don't give me any shit about you not being new.
Also nothing I've posted in this thread is non-vidya.

This tbh monica

calm down with all that asshurt buddy

...

...

That just means it's time for a new game

WoW's leveling is fucking terrible now. The world even on the most populated servers is almost completely empty outside of the level 100+ zones, and honestly I can't blame them as the EXP rates are completely fucked and questing is completely railroaded now so if you've seen it once thats enough.

Honestly they should just remove leveling altogether at this point. Make every zone max level, let players start in a race/class specific zone and progressively learn their skills (which have been heavily pruned) through a tutorial. Make all dungeons max level. Gear itemization is almost completely irrelevant at this point and you level so quickly that you could tank in fucking cloth looms(some people do) and it wouldn't make a difference so reward scaling to max wouldn't be hard to do either.

The game would still suck ass but it might force people out of their fucking bubbles.

Nice

...

Anyways, , please listen to me. That it's really related to this thread.
I went to Holla Forums a while ago; you know, Holla Forums?
Well anyways there was an insane number of newfags there, and I couldn't get in.
Then, I looked at the banner at the top, and it had "Holla Forums - Video Games" written on it.
Oh, the stupidity. Those idiots.
You, don't come to Holla Forums for the video games, fool.
It's only video games, V-I-D-E-O GAMES for crying out loud.
There're even entire families here. Family of 4, all out for some vidya games, huh? How fucking nice.
"Alright, daddy's gonna post an Overwatch thread." God I can't bear to watch.
You people, I'll give you some vidya games if you get out of that board.
Holla Forums should be a bloody place.
That tense atmosphere, where two guys on opposite sides of the thread can start a fight at any time,
the bait-or-be-baited mentality, that's what's great about this place.
Women and children should screw off and stay home.
Anyways, I was about to start shitposting, and then the bastard beside me goes "What is your favorite vidya game?"
Who in the world cares about your favorite video game, you moron?
I want to ask him, "do you REALLY want to talk about vidya games?"
I want to interrogate him. I want to interrogate him for roughly an hour.
Are you sure you don't just want to try saying "vidya game"?
Coming from a Holla Forums veteran such as myself, the latest trend among us vets is this, lewd anime girls.
That's right, lewd anime girls. This is the vet's way of posting.
Lewd anime girls means more lewd than video games. But on the other hand you have to spoiler it. This is the key.
And then, it's delicious. This is unbeatable.
However, if you post this then there is danger that you'll be marked by the hotpockets from next time on; it's a double-edged sword.
I can't recommend it to amateurs.
What this all really means, though, is that you, , should just stick with r/gaming.

/\/\ E /\/\ E

How about a game with no max level? You can level up theoretically forever (so long there's enough room for another digit), but it just takes exponentially more effort each time.

...

That would be great, if only

What in the unholy fuck is this.
I thought "WoW is a phone game" was a joke because of the facebook and twitter integration.
This has to be an early April's fools.

Nope. Its to make the 4-14 hour/4-12 day timegates more manageable, but they're not trying to forcefully retain sub rates or anything don't you worry install the app goy.

"end game" type mmos are cancer.

it might as well not even have levels

Seems like it would be great if you had already levelled a character as intended and wanted to try a new class.

Levelling is there for two reasons:

1. To teach you the overall basics of the game if you're playing for the first time.
2. To teach you how to play your class by slowly giving you new skills to try out and letting you get accustomed to them.

It also serves as "filler" content in the sense that you first have to go thorough it to get to anything meaningful, thus keeping you engaged for a longer period of time, but this is more of a bonus point rather than a proper reason.

Classes have been pruned to like 4 active skills tops, maybe 2-3 more depending on talents chosen and class. Everything else is a cooldown, a passive, or compressed into an existing ability/locked to a different spec.

There is nothing to teach, combat is shallower than a MOBA as this point.

Hell skills stop for some classes at level 80ish, and from level 100-110 you don't even get more skills tied to your class, just a single skill tied to artifact which in some cases is also passive.

You basically described Lineage 2. Leveling took so long in that game that for almost anyone except a handful of people who killed themselves to reach max level, the end-game WAS the leveling process.

Black Desert Online took a more literal approach: leveling is much quicker, but technically there is no level cap. You can level forever… however, there is a point at which you are basically gaining no XP because there are no mobs high enough level to kill. And you reach that point pretty quickly, so effectively Lineage 2 had a far deeper leveling process. Oh yeah, and Lineage 2 had the "remort" system from MUDs of old (basically, once you hit level cap you could multiclass into another class, starting over at level 1 of that class, with the ability to swap back to the old class when you wanted to).

Not like retards that play WoW were known for their intelligence

...

...

Blizzdrones will defend this.

Truth is, it's nowhere near as bad as the garrison missions were last expansion. Hell, this app would actually have been useful then, when you were running dozens of missions every day with twenty or twenty-five followers to send out. Instead you're running maybe four or five at most, and you have a roster of five champions and a few troops to manage.

I don't really know why they decided to port the feature in a much simplified and neutered form forward, but they did, so whatever. If people really feel like checking the progress of their missions while they're AFK, I don't see any harm there. Hell, the class hall missions are such a minor part of the expansion anyway, unlike how the garrison was about the only content to do in Warlords. It's more useful to find out what world quests/emissaries are up if you're not at your computer, so you can decide in advance what you want to do when you log on.

But nobody here cares, so polite sage.

might as well post it here

Chris Metzen retired officially today.

now we just need Celestalon and Holinka to get the fuck out and we may save the game

It's a decade too late to save WoW, user.

Forget it user.

Wait, without Metzen, who is going to write horribly and voice every character with the same terrible gravel voice?
Shit's already too far gone to care about. And no doubt they're going to follow a plan lined out by Metzen and the like even with them gone

Why is guilmon such the perfect kemono bottom?

wew. this meltdown.

You just actually have shit taste.

4 realz

So go back and do 1-99 if you want to see shit, its not like it locks you out of it once you are 100.

How come these WoW threads always have the most weak ass strawman complaints? Maybe you guys don't play the game anymore to actually know what the real complaints are. It's like a bunch of Private Server guys jerking each other off.

"Ooh yeah WoW is shit now I totally made the right choice, right guys RIGHT?!?"

Just coming of as insecure tards that can't even make proper arguments.

You seem to be carrying some baggage from previous anti-WOW comments you have read throughout your life and are defensive about this game to a strange degree. Have you possibly devoted a lot of time and/or money to this particular franchise and are thus attempting to deflect the pain of sunk costs?

How about you fucking criticize the game properly instead of going for the typical personal attacks you retards.

How about the Garrison is a shitty mobile app inside a videogame, that now has a mobile app outside the game.

How about the new Class has only two specs.

How about the remodelled tanking that was so bad in beta the players made the designers look like idiots when they asked why the Monk was required to sit on low health in order to tank, discouraging healers to heal them?

How about the Warrior class hall in Legion is literally a Generic Stormpeaks style quest hub featuring no prominent Warriors in the class hall itself?

How about the fact many of the Weapons that could've been used for the artifact weapon system weren't?

It's like talking to morons here.

I have not. I do feel like leveling is a bit worn out as it currently stands, though. In many ways, it feels like, for a lot of MMOs anyway, leveling has become an unnecessary mechanic. I was thinking about this while playing TERA, and I realized that a lot of what the company behind TERA was trying to do was to rush all the newbies to the end game as fast as they could. Maybe you could say that leveling teaches a person how to play their character, but that's entirely not true, odds are for an MMO with multiple expansions or content extensions, there's a lot of stuff to learn that is all incredibly meta, and isn't taught to you by the game, and not only is it not taught, it isn't really even hinted at, nor does it really encourage experimenting.

So then the question comes back to "why does leveling even exist in TERA."

I think if a company is trying to speed the leveling process up, or even skip it entirely by doing what WoW is doing, they should reevaluate the point of leveling, because clearly it means nothing more than a barrier to end game content and numbers

This is a thread about ads and leveling. And (not) anime reaction images. Also, WOW's leveling system worth complaining about. Go sperg about the "correct" complaints about elsewhere.

I'm glad they kinda unfucked it.

But TERA came long before shits of pandaria?

And wasn't it wow kiddies who kept insisting that the 'real' experience is at whatever the max level happened to be at the time?

I'd rather play on a 1x exp private server than the current shit expansion, and that is from someone that started playing during wotlk. I played on Nost and Kronos and let me tell you, you stupid fucking blizzardrone cocksucker, that vanilla wow was about exploration and helping others along the way. You had to be in a guild and to befriend people along your journey. Not the single player piece of shit that you and your ilk play. But whatever is told to you, will keep sucking that fat, juicy jewish cock of blizzard, you fucking retarded blizzardrone.

here is my smug anime girl face

Such a small percentage of the playerbase plays the game for the first time on a boosted character.
This argument is retarded.

I've played off and on since release and it's people like me who are too lazy to level that 6th or 9th alt to 100 who fork over the money. It's actually worth it because I've played the "story" several times already, and 60$ is worth less than 10+hours of my time. It's a huge convenience for people like me.

Don't play the game. Nobody is forcing you.

you seem real upset lad

So is there any point in which WoW wasn't boring, skinner box bullshit?
Seriously, even as a teenager I thought WoW was for hardcore autists with no friends and total normalfags.

This is probably the worst I've ever seen, Squeenix even cancelled it after overwhelming negative backlash.

They also decided to be passive-aggressive and post "you asked for this" on twitter when they announced it was cancelled.

Are there any video games that can't be considered a Skinner box?

it is obviously to try to get people who used to play back so they don't have to worry about catching up and FOMO

i've heard friends talking about getting legion

This reminds me.

In the beginning of WoW you could hire a Chinaman to play the game for you.

Now it's offered as a micro transaction.

MMOs are interactive chatrooms.

People use it to get friends.

Seriously the game isn't really important. Nobody who plays WoW cares about the lore or quests.

It seems you got lost.

m.neogaf.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2

It kind of makes sense for MMOs since leveling just becomes a grind. If there is new content then leveling up becomes a passive part of the experience but I've never really seen an MMO that has enough quest that you level up to the cap naturally without some form of grinding.

Also the pressure of end game content kind of forces everyone to follow the pack as not to be left behind on content since most MMOs still use level restrictions for harder quests. There aren't that many MMOs that break the mold and are still successful today that doesn't fall into the same MMO trappings of decades past.

Any time a game's trailer throws endorsements by sites like Kotaku and Polygon, I instantly move on with my life. The same goes for lists of "indie awards" that they throw out in quick succession. Fastest way to get me to just continue on.

It's okay bruh, you should have just asked for smug anime pics.
Or you seriously think having half the board mock you for acting like a faggot is trolling, and if that's the case gas yourself.

WoW was always the CoD of MMOs

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE P2W GARBAGE
I-i-it's just a choice, n-n-n-n-no one's f-forcing you!

Literally the worst Holla Forums, holy shit.

pot calling the kettle BLACKED

How's the sales on that hot turd anyways? Surly all normalfags don't have goldfish memory and bought it, right?

lmao, who the fuck do they think they are? Blizzard?

SO….THIS…is the POWER….of a BLIZZDRONE…amazing………………………

what is this and where can I find it?

For scientific reasons of course.

I'll give you a hint; you can find the source in that screenshot

Oh look at that. I was too busy looking at the goblin.

will I have to get all the Japanese system shit in place to make it work?

why can't Japan release H-games in the west? Does anyone make porn games like those H-games in the west?

Here, it's dangerous to fap with moonrunes. Take this

forgot my off-topic sage

retail WoW is still utter garbage but Goblin girls are great

Because the last time they even dared make their games not a chore to pirate, SJWs pirated Rapelay and then caused a moral outrage until Japan got sanctioned for it.
Rapelay was forcibly banned at the height of its popularity, and Illusion (and by extension the JP hentai scene) has never forgiven the west (for good reason)

Yes, clearly piracy was the reason.

It's disgusting how the rest of the world wouldn't just let autistic permavirgins live out their pathetic fantasies through video games.

It's the only thing those things have to live for, how dare they.

Kill yourself you illiterate nigger

Awesome, nice to know I haven't been mistaken all these years.

Oi

Remember user, suicide is always an option, especially for you.

Here's the (You) you wanted

Less shitposting, more killing yourself.

Remember, it's the last thing you could do for your poor parents.

smh user, smh

Excuse me, sir, you seem to have confused Holla Forums with >>>Holla Forums

The entire leveling experience in Wow has been ruined several expansions ago.

All the abilities and skills in the game are balanced around max level characters, so while leveling up you tend to do way more damage than you're supposed to do. Now you can pull 20 mobs and one-shot everything, with no fear of dying. In vanilla you would usually die if you pulled more than 1 mob without the use of potions.
The level cap in the game used to be 60, now its 110. To make sure you don't spend 2 years leveling up they've significantly lowered the amount of experience needed to level up, so as a low level character you'll quickly out-level all the zones you play in before finishing them.

They might as well just give us a max level character and be done with it at this point.

Dead on Arrival.

...

The entire "boost to level 100" bullshit is proof that the WoW-style model of massive level-caps is a broken system that just does not work. The Level 20 cap of the original Guild Wars with PvP-only characters starting at 20 was the best system that any MMO has had for leveling and end-game content.

...

WoW has always had retarded scaling that got out of hand every new expansion, if not every few patches.
They weren't sensible at all with progress and every number inflated exponentially faster than a wildfire.

They really should have stopped the leveling similar to what FFXI did. Then bring in something like Merit Points where additional exp is used to improve particular traits or abilities.

They seem to be doing something similar with weapons now, doing their Artifact tree in place of new spells from leveling. I kinda like that setup and could see them continuing it to another expansion.

Well, VNs and H-games don't try to to be something that they aren't, and they reliably give the player what he's looking for. And it's a pleasant bonus on the occasions that they do feature good gameplay.
In contrast, Blizzard keeps on messing around with WoW and their other properties, inevitably destroying what made them fun in the first place and turning them into hollow shells of their past glories.

Very nice

...

I followed a guide on another board and learned how to bot in POGO. Little profit aside, I'm 100% convinced this is the only fun way of playing that shit game.

So many other grindatons could use this. Imagine being able to set stats, gear and tactics of a 40 mans and then look at it unravel in real time automatically.

Looks like the goblins Incase draws.

You can, it's called simulationcraft! Knock yourself out!

I think you seem to miss the point. Being able to skip right to max level leads to a lot of people not understanding the mechanics of the game and making running higher-tier content in a pub difficult as fuck since you are likely to be grouped with a bunch of retards. If its for an alt character after you've already gotten there, that's one thing. Although if the character you're bringing up is different than you're previous, you may run into some similar problems. You may be able to talk shit and give backseat pointers about playing another class, but sometimes unless you've made the journey you're going to fucking suck playing it.

Doesn't matter what game they play then, they'll still be retarded at it.

Right, because WoW is known for its complex gameplay

Yes.

Mind you it isn't complex, but for Normalfags shit like MINUS 5 DKP and other raid videos makes shit look more complex then it actually is.

Not anymore, and even when it was thought as "complex" it was more because of min-maxing poorly balanced classes was the only way to be competitive.

I thought the sarcasm was obvious

Still get the problem of kiddies jumping on the class-of-the-patch imba and boosting that class, and then saturating the game with poorly learned classes.

The problem extends beyond WoW. It just happens to be that WoW is what a lot of these games base their shit on. The MMO pre/post WoW are completely different. If shit like that sells there, why not sucker a few more fucks out of some money with promises of straight to end game, effectively ruining the experience for a good portion of the player base.
