This not-actually-a-study-but-headlines is everything wrong with modern social psychology. Allow me to sperg for a moment, if I may.

In the article, they admit that only about 1% of people tested meet the qualifications for being a diagnosable psychopath. This means, out of 200 participants, 2 should be psychopaths. Lets say they get lucky and get 5. You cannot do any sort of rational statistical comparison between N = 5 and N = 195. To get around this, they do a regression relating the degree of your psychopathic score to your degree of like of various random songs. My guess is that if the psychopath scale goes from 1-5, 99% of people are between a 3 and 3.2. This is the kind of statistical fuckery social psychology thrives on. Zooming in on and correlating gradients so fine even their own scales of measurement aren't sensitive to the mean differences (e.g. based on sub-unit extrapolation, e.g. horseshit).
In other words, this is like studying a group of people who range in height from 5'5" - 5'9" and then using their results to make conclusions about tall people.

In every intro psych class, if you have a group of freshman think up a study, 90% of the mouth-breathers will think of a ham-fisted study involving music. I don't know what it is, but it's the lurkmoar of psychology. Anyone who actually utilizes a study design based on "listen to this, tell me how much you like it" should lose their academic credentials. It's the Buzzfeed equivalence of "science".
From a technical perspective, it's not clear if they're listening to these songs all the way through or just rating clips. Full songs would require 12+hrs of listening, so I can only imagine they're playing clips. Which clips? Which times to play? How long? You can see how arbitrary the entire design is.
You can't control for people's initial preferences.
You can't equate the emotional context of each song.
You can't equate anything about the audio except the volume and length.
You can't extrapolate to genres from a hand full of clips.
I can't even begin to explain how absurd this study design is. Suffice it to say you cannot control for the most critical variables and it renders this study literally useless.

This is actually what it's about. Predicting your psychological profile from your peripheral action and preferences. If these people actually cared about this type of predictive power, they would use computer learning algorithms to do latent-class analysis of preferences of people who have wide variations in psychopathic tendencies. There is a way to do this type of study, though the intentions are purely bad, so it's not worth correcting the mistakes.

There are more modern genres of music that are all white. I've been listening to mostly different forms of modern folk music for the past two years now. There's so much good stuff in it, and so many new, independent contributions every year. If you're a Corvette guy, I must know this. Why do people seem to wash the things out constantly? There's hundreds of videos of people trying to drive it straight and flying into a wall.
