Expensive Pokemon

WHY? Can someone please explain this to me? This isn't just for factory sealed boxes either, I am seeing all kinds of listings for "rare" and "authentic" soul silver games. I EVEN SAW A $25 LISTING FOR FUCKING REPLICAS.

SOULSILVER AND HEARTGOLD SOLD LITERAL MILLIONS OF COPIES WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?

(((Collectors))).
Just get a flashcart and play it off that.

Welcome to the collectors market dude.
Just emulate them for free and stop being a little bitch. Its also Pokemon, which is normalfag fag central so of course people are going to pay for it.

or just pirate bro same thing lmao

It's been a long time since I've played an actual handheld instead of emulating, so I was wanting to do that. This makes me pretty happy I haven't paid for a physical copy of a game in so long.

Can you use a flashcart on any DSi at this point? I've only played pirated shit on a PSP, never a DS. 3DS is only just now starting to come around with that stuff, isn't it?

Pokemon's certainly not rare in most cases (barring Pokemon Box, I suppose; that shit's like $200 for a glorified storage system and way to play Ruby and Sapphire on the TV). HGSS' prices though are likely a mixture of elements.
Still, used copies should run maybe $50 or so, or at least that's what I saw them going for last locally. It does make me glad I still have my copy of HG though, so I don't have to potentially pay even more for it down the line.

Also, considering the games are out of print now, sealed copies really not the best example to be going off of for general prices.

Option 1: Get a flashcart like others have said
Option 2: Get Desmume and emulate it.

I'm glad I picked up both of them games a while back before the prices got out of hand

I was trying to buy pokemon stadium 2 at one stage and passed up buying it for 100 bucks, now it goes for no less then $200

3DS is basically blown wide open, it's the Vita that's just starting to open up. As for flashcarts I'm pretty sure they do all the DS shit fine on DSi, but there might be a special procedure for DSi-specific features.

There's a listing in pic 2 that's the cart only for $75.

Aim for a different Gen 4 game like Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum and get a flashcard to emulate HGSS, easier of the two methods and if you have an extra DS or 3DS you can trade and transfer easily.

Correction, Pokemon Box currently goes for 300 dollars. Fucking Jew Yorkers, I blame them.

Oh, and to add to that, the price hikes for complete DS games (the ones that aren't shovelware and didn't get a reprint, anyhow) can be blamed on Fucking Gamestop trashing the bulk of their DS cases and manuals to make more shelf space for mobile shit.

I found a copy of SS a few years back for $12 with the case, cover, and manual (no outer box or Pokewalker though). Gave it to a friend as a birthday gift.

Cart only or complete? Because cart only shouldn't be running that much going off of prices locally where I am. Unless you maybe live in somewhere like Australia or something (where pics related come from).

Fair enough. But still, that's pretty overpriced compared to what I've seen locally. Maybe some of the stores here have just been slow to catch up, though.

No shit, if local stores charged ebay prices you wouldn't buy from them. Ebay is for lazy faggots who want their game delivered to them. Which is why I use it all the time.

Pokemon games are mad expensive second hand; I think it's a mix of Nintendo games taking forever to go down in price, rapidly becoming sought after by collectors, and people who want to buy and play old games to transfer to new ones means there's actual demand.

The forward compatability means a lot of people simply don't sell their old Pokemon carts either, I'm pretty sure.

Pokemon GO brought all the casuals out looking for these fucking games.

As for the copies that are intact, blame Gamestop for throwing out all the boxes and manuals.

...

Yeh I live in Aus, buying games is hell. Pokemon stadium complete, even conkers bad fur day is about 100 dollars just for the cart.

The thing is that most local stores here do go off of ebay and Amazon prices, or at least use them as the initial value (they might go over or under, depending on the store quality). Stuff that sits out of the shelf for a while though doesn't tend to get re-priced, and given how much stuff like HGSS already were at $45-50, some of them might still be a that price even if the average values gone up to $70-80.

I feel bad for you guys that like vidya out there.

You fucked up.

...

I know that feel

What? I bought one when I was in Japan for about 250円. How much is this nigger worth?

I wish I could find a copy of Cross Coda.

It's only software, dummy, and its storage container is obsolete - just emulate it.

Just gotta keep an eye out on Mandarake

Didn't realize I found like $50+

Feelsgoodman

I have a copy of the GC version of TP, fuck is that game boring but I ain't parting with it.

I honestly don't mind Twilight Princess that much (Arbiter's Grounds being a favorite dungeon of mine in the series), aside from the early part being a slog and the damage not increasing nearly enough as it went on (Ganondorf should not do as little damage as he does; compare to Windwaker prior, where every hit is a full heart or so, and I think his jump strikes were two, but I could be wrong). But yeah, even here in the US, the Gamecube version's a good $45-75 where I live. I think the Wii version's cheaper, likely due to being more available and people preferring an actual controller input/non-mirrored world the Gamecube one has.

What the hell are you doing? This shit is

Yeah, not real sure I'd trust those to be legit, but that's just me.

...

Not legit and marked up about 1000%. I know because me and some bros wanted to try and start a business. You can buy those bootlegs for $2.50 a pop with no MOQ or postage fees

emulate that shit nigga

I feel lucky to have gotten a full Soul Silver set (minus the shitty Pokewalker and pointless cardboard box) for 30 bucks. I think the guy I got it from online wasn't aware of what he had. I wanted to get it because I got gypped out of it when my mom bought me a bootleg copy of it when I was a kid rather than the real deal. I had a DSi so it didn't work. Glad I did honestly, cause now if I ever really need money, I can hold onto this and sell it to normalfag collectors for massive profit since the game and everything is in great condition.

The pokewalker and the fact that they're still the single best pokemon games ever made.

The price of Pokemon games shot up while Pokemon Go was big and now some idiots think they can make a fortune from them.

It's not even remotely close to being the same, user. I already bought a DS and a flash cart for a total of $50 anyway.

Feels good

Yes, it's better.

I know you could just lie and say you do even if you don't, but do you guys actually masturbate to these furry Poke-porns? Just curious.

I wouldn't go that far, Platinum was an extremely strong contender for that title.

Platinum I usually rank second, but Platinum didn't have acorns, pokemon that followed you, or two regions.

I'd say Platinum is honestly second best. Good, but HG/SS has way more content.

Guess.

Much as I love the Johto games and how Gen IV mechanics resolved some issues the series had suffered in the past (also adding in the Safari Zone helped), playing through HGSS still highlights some of the issues the Johto games had, to the point I'm not sure how I dumped so much time into Crystal back in the day.

I mean, they're still good, but I would have hoped there might have been some way to properly address the Johto leveling curve, where wild Pokemon prior to the are beyond Tohjo Falls tend to cap out at about 25-30.

The problem is that it doesn't really send you through a story once you explore Kanto. It lets you tackle each gym in any order you want, expecting you'll do Vermillion last. Sadly the freedom the game gives you in Kanto is also a bit of a weakness since Game Freak can't into autoscaled difficulty.

Thank god. Autoscaling difficulty is pretty shit.

I think it can be done right, honestly. Still waiting for someone to actually do it so though…

your first problem retard, also half of those are fake.

...

They're bootlegs.

God fucking dammit. I sold my Soul Silver and Pearl for like $20 each a couple years ago. Why do I always miss out on these giant price hikes?

lmao you fucking underage

My gc stuff is just gathering dust.
I wonder if I could get some dumb goy's shekels for it.

The big issue for me, especially in the original Gen II games, was mostly just trying to level up new Pokemon, especially prior to beating the Elite Four. Due to how you can choose to go west and surf to Cianwood or east to Mahogany Town after Ecruteak, the leveling curve has to suffer for it. I mean, it being a bit non-linear at that point is neat, but since both directions have Pokemon of similar levels, the entire level flow gets screwed up there, to the point that the Elite Four's levels were lower than in the first gen (which is telling since Lance returns and none of his Dragonite are at the right level to have evolved). Combine with the fact that for trainer rematches you have to wait until they're ready to go (generally with a phone call), unless you're using the same team throughout the whole game, trying to level up new stuff prior to the Elite Four is a slog.

I will say that post Elite Four, at least HGSS addresses the issue somewhat by allowing for Gym Leader rematches for a better way at getting money/level ups, but not only do you need to track them down away from the gym to get their numbers, but also schedule in advance to even have a rematch, and only at certain days and times they're not busy (contrast with Platinum where 2-3 randomly hang out in that bar like place in the Battle Zone for rematches).

talking about HG/SS, how worth it is the pokewalker?

...

OH BOY I SURE DO LOVE USING DRUGS ON MY ELFS!

...

There are people with enough shit taste to masturbate to Braixen, yes

Better on the DS, you mean.

...

Depends on the game. I know there's one emulation setting you can use to remove the screen limitations playing 3D games on an actual DS tend to suffer from (the severity ranging by game) and let the modeling stand out.

Still, I don't recall the DS Pokemon games (main series anyhow) suffering that problem much, mainly being sprited and all (though I think the Gen V games used some lite 3D for parts of Castelia City.

What the fuck are you even talking about and what does this have to do with anything? Not having an actual touch screen makes emulating a DS completely pointless.

Are you retarded

I'm just saying there's a graphical benefit to emulating some games since the DS doesn't handle 3D graphics all that well compared to 2D sprite based ones.

I myself prefer playing DS games on an actual DS, but a lot of anons seem fond of just emulating instead, be it playing shit for free (without even needing a flashcart, provided they don't want to actually have to buy one and a DS itself as well) or getting around graphical issues. That said I expect that even with emulators, some games might be picky as to their functionality, especially if they don't just use the touchscreen but also needed the mic for input (be it voiced or just blowing into it).

Collectors are terrible people, all of them. Those fucking faggots just buy the damn games to never touch them or resell them at astronomical prices. A copy of Faxanadu costed me $30 fucking dollars.

The originals are much better looking than that 3d vomit in the remakes.
Also you get to listen to the better music right off from the start.

Gen 1 and 2 look like shit, though. Gen 3 is as far back as I can go.

...

Resellers aren't collectors. The collectors who have been around way longer than the recent sudden boom of interest (which is a fad and, like all other fad booms, will pop like a bubble eventually) are all pretty chill. Barring a finder's fee, which is usually akin to a tip and not much more, and the person seeking the game paying for postage, old collectors will usually sell you a game for the price they found it cheap at. So if they find, say, an NES lot at a yard sale and buy it in bulk (as you do at a fucking yard sale) and it includes duplicates, you'll probably pay out cheap as hell for an otherwise expensive game. You just have to find old collector communities to get the deal.

It's the newfag collectors and resellers who have driven the cost of games through the roof. Newfag collectors will pay any fucking Ebay price and Ebay lets resellers see the most recent sales of a game and the cost they sold at. So as newfags continue to pay out the ass for games, reseller scum continue to raise the price. Most collectors who aren't part of the recent boom of Reddit-tier faggots hate resellers and scalpers as much as you do, user, and we sure as fuck hate Ebay for driving the cost of games up.

You can honestly blame the recent trend on people like Pat and other Youtubers who show off old games and immediately hike the price through the roof as their millions of subscribers flock to Ebay and start buying old games in droves. The price can go up overnight. The cost of Ride to Hell Retribution, for example, never really went back into the dirt like it should have thanks to Angry Joe, Totalbiscuit, etc. That game is worth $1. It's on Ebay for an average of ~$15. For a complete piece of trash.

Old collectors aren't any more pleased with the ridiculous cost of games as anyone else is. It's only newfag collectors who don't know any better who think they're ~totally gettin' a deal~ when they find a copy of loose Pokemon games for $30, or, in this case, $50+.

TL;DR: Casuals and newfags ruin another part of the game industry, news at 11.

just like
pirate man

lmao

Who the fuck is Pat?

Pat the NES Punk.

The NES Punk, he hates the newfag purchasers as they are forcing prices to skyrocket.

Some jewtube celebrity.

Does he not realize he's been part of the problem? Just wondering. I don't keep up with eceleb bullshit.

Here's a frontal kike from AWM if you need it.
