I just couldn't get into the swing of Dead Rising. You get fuck all time to do every mission and the sub missions, the combat isn't that great moreso during bosses, the escort AI is absolutely rubbish too. Am I missing something magical about this game?

Dead Rising's the most relaxing game ever made, fuck Journey and Nu Man's Sky, this shit has the most therapeutic gameplay out of any game ever made period. Also the music is really comfy.

2 and OTR are pretty good, it's just the storyline took itself way to seriously and fuck zombrex fetching, the gameplay is just as good as 1 if not better because of the better survivor AI. Ya did good.

More than taking itself too serious it just started to go grimdark. The first Dead Rising is fucking serious even if the player can fuck arround. It's a pretty realistic Romero-like story with people going nuts. Well, at least there was still colour in Dead Rising 2 but fuck combo weapons.

Here's some hints. When a case opens, immediately seek to close it by whatever means. If you play your cards right, you'll have a good two hours of free-time between the military closing in on the mall, and Ed finally coming for you.

If that isn't enough for you, then try ignoring the story entirely.

The time system is WHY the game works, though. The game isn't exactly about killing zombies.

The time system is also in part why the mall is interesting to explore. Different things happening at different times in different places. As time goes on, shit starts getting more out of hand/new psycho's appear, new survivors, new types of enemies, etc.

The time limit makes the game shine. It lights a fire under your ass and increases replay value. Being able to hit max level, save all the survivors, kill all psychos, finish all cases, get the collectibles and kill count achievements/unlocks in one playthrough would suck. People went through the game seeing how much they could do in one playthrough and they certainly couldn't do everything.

Removing the time limit would kill Dead Rising. There is no tension to your actions, no consequences of having to choose between some survivors or another mission. It would just be another sandbox where you can do whatever you want, whenever you want.

And thats the main problem I had with DR2 (while i liked and enjoyed it a lot) in my first run starting at lvl1 I managed to get to overtime mode, kill almost all bosses except Ted and save everyone except the guys from Tape or Die and Ted related survivors.

Sure i had a ton of experience from DR1 but i doubt tomorrow i will be able to finish it with all survivors, bosses and overtime starting in lvl1.

DR was the only reason I got a Xbox360 and after the red ring never cared enough to fix it, I supposed Crapcom would eventually cave in and release it on PC.

Seems pretty good. Textures are low-res but crisp. Black guy's head textures seemed pretty nice. Otis is still irritating. During the heli flight in the chopper noise and background sound didn't kick in until after the gas station explosion. I thought the loads were ridiculously long but it seems like it was just my computer hashing files in the background and using up my HDD power. Loads do get a little irritating though, game has a bad case of the event trigger > loading > cutscene > loading >cutscene > loading > gameplay. The loads may not be terrible but it adds up.

That and there seem to be a lot of minor bugs people on the steam forums are talking about. Game needs some patching.

Also I haven't got to a psychopath yet, I really hope the music is in tact.

Just use the 5 save files this one gives you to experiment. It's not a long game. Save at intervals, do your best, then reload or restart if it gets to be too much.

As of now, textures are the only unmoddable things. The map and general coding are very much still moddable, in comparison to the 360 version.

I remember there being a glitch around when you start the game, where you first enter the mall. You're in a shopping area with a big staircase with some zombies around. If you wait out the timer on the mission (you only have one), I think time stops flowing because you missed the flag to start other events. It lets you run around in a sort of sandbox mode. I remember doing this back on the console version but I can't find any info about it anymore.

If the timer really bothers you, you can try that out to fuck around in the mall worry free. You can't do any missions but you can get cheevos for random shit if that floats your boat.

I just found the fucking fix. You won't believe it, but what you need to do is install KB2670838, the very same windows update that breaks S.T.A.L.K.E.R CS. I'm sure you've seen this if you browse the generals.

I will say this though, my computer behaved very wierd while rebooting. First up just starting to a black screen, then after a hard reset it demanded me to restore to a 'restore point'. After another hard reset it started windows normally and the game finally worked.

Reinstalling DX as admin (found in the games directory)

Installing the Windows update that dude posted above

Installing fresh AMD and Related drivers

Changing sound quality to 24/48k

However, now I have no sound. And nothing I tried helps.

Well, I just downloaded it, installed it, then updated the game with the CODEX hotfix, put the crack and it launched perfectly.
So I guess I'm lucky because I have 0 problems right now. I'm on Win 7 64Bits

I tried saving at the first place, but it just said "failed to save"

Weird, I restarted the game and it ended up saving, but it was corrupt. So I started a new game and it saved fine now.

on a side note, do some weapons sort of cause a "skip" in the frame rate? When I use a bat or soccer ball theres this split second frame drop.

What's the problem meant to be with the port? Just got the CODEX version and it booted up fine and I got to the security room before turning it off. I use a gamepad so that might be why. Didn't try saving either.
