Battlefleet Gothic

Tau beta live

Thats how they are supposed to sound in an english translation, or atleast since dark crusade and fire warrior, Holla Forums as always cant into 40k.

we get this besides nids? fuck

Why the fuck did anyone think Tau were a good idea? I take it the people who voted for them have never seen a Tau Fleet on tabletop?

At least the ships look cool. They really should allow you to control more ships though. And I wish the boarding system was better. And I wish the campaign map was 4x-y. Tau were always space asians though.

Sadly Tyranids seem to only be in the mobile game. Hopefully they'll bring them over.

well, I have the game updated buy I can't try em out? I guess Ill wait I'm sure there OP as hell for now

People thought their fleets would handle like their ground forces, but theres no space gundam for you.

Tau are the race for people who want impressive looking ships and vehicles but can't handle the grimdark

Tau is for pissing off muh grimdark only war grognards with gay colored mechas.

I look forward to the butthurt.

Tau Fleets are:

The only nice thing about them really is the variety they can field, point cost, taking Manta as fliers, missiles and their escorts are pretty nice. Other than that they get slaughtered by any equivalent class of warship. Hell some Cruisers are tougher than their Battleships.

So are they going to charge you like 20 bucks for em or what?

Spess Muhreens were 7 USD, so you can probably expect around that dollar amount.

Shouldn't the devs be focused on figuring how to balance the game and keep it alive rather than selling one of the worst fleets in BFG

...

Tau were literally the worst fleet in the tabletop. But no doubt the devs will change that to keep the spaceweebs happy.

Also I don't like how they're using the forgeworld ships and not the real ones, not every race needs to have a single, super basic aesthetic.

I still haven't thrown into BFG, but if I remember right from lurking, in rules 'missiles' means the Tau get bullshit Macross torpedoes with homing & manual adjustment during flight? If so, that might give them some kind of edge. Maybe a torp/missile boat heavy fleet wolfpacking enemy ships to death in forward runs before turning aside, reloading and doing it again. The slow part doesn't help with that, nor does the range, though, so you might get press into a brawl for a bit before being able to sling another volley, which is bad. Am I anywhere in the ballpark? How do Tau fleets work with their being so milquetoast?

Wait, Tau faction already in beta? Cool.

So, for the people who played it…How is the Tau gameplay? What are its characteristics?

If they're true to the tabletop it'll be

At least Chaos won't be the worst anymore

Here is a gameplay video.

They are pretty much glass cannons in game and close range monsters. Yes you heard me, close range monsters. However if you face someone with their shit together they'll melt fast. They can make their point defenses damage enemy ships which can be anywhere between 9-15dps. Their missiles are kind of useless while their Manta's are useful and can not only bomb but board an enemy vessel with each strike. The Earth Caste favor also allows them to mount a railgun that fires at 25km out that can one shot an escort since it passes through shields.

What the hell? Tau should be strong in the long-middle range, and missiles should be powerfull.

Are the developers incapable of even basic game balance? Jesus Christ.

yes

Well, in the lore, they don't.
Their fleets get creamed.

Missiles are so awful they are actually a bigger threat to your ships than the enemy. Especially with a crafty Eldar player who can guide them back towards your ships.

...

What does it do lorewise anyway ?

Looks cool

They are basically mobile space stations that can land on planets and move in any direction instantly. They also got warp drives which is kind of a big deal for Tau and you cannot really knock out any subsystem on it due to how it's constructed.

Tau spacefaring technology is canonically the lowest of all the playable races, including orks.

This is true. Hell some of their ships are outshielded by Orkz. and outranged

Imperial Navy ships have a 25% chance to take no damage and can trigger a mutiny with every lightning strike. You tell me?
