The books may get ratty from constant handling - that's fine, just don't damage them intentionally.
Think about the book(s) you're carrying around with you. Think about their stories and stories like them, their facts and facts like them. Love learning, but not people. Love books, but not authors. This is a fallen world where you do not want to give your love away to monsters, but books are not monsters even here.

A good practice is making vows to whatever deity (deities) you worship/respect/trust and, if possible, signing them with your blood. Preferably on the new moon, or even better, in the shadow of a solar eclipse, as I just did this August.
