The statistic is 5/7 days a week there are gunshots. I believe this city holds the record for drug overdoses in 2015, and we've had 2 police officers shot in the last 2 months.

It's beginning to get a bit scary walking past people on the sidewalk on my way home from work now especially after reading that one story with the stabbing over bumming cigs x_x

A witness, sure. That's different than directly witnessing the murder, though. The word has different meanings. If you were called on as a witness, you would give the events that you were witness to, which would be circumstantial evidence, not direct evidence, which would be if you actually witnessed the shooting itself.
