Well, in America, if you don't defend your patent it means you lose it. If I don't have the means to sue in the US, because these types of deals can go well into 10 thousands, then I lose the patent. Therefore some faggot just successfully stole my patent and I wasted a lot of money in the process. Patents might have been a good idea, but they're a cesspit of legal fees and disappointment on international stage. Only very large, established companies are able to defend their patents internationally and only if they take precautions such as not manufacturing their shit in China.

College as a concept is great, its implementation is terrible. Like everything else in our society it's a gigantic bloat of inefficient bureaucracy more concerned with making money and expanding its operations than providing the service it was originally designed for.

College should be reserved for specialized training in highly demanding fields that require excellent instruction and resources to reach basic competency in. These types of fields are few and far between, and yet there is a college degree now for practically everything you can imagine. And because of how our laws are designed employers can't cut out the college and simply hire people and put them through their own training lest they face massive lawsuits for discriminatory practices.

College is practically a branch of the government now, it's a completely useless institution in many ways but it's so inextricably enmeshed with key functions of our society it is very difficult if not impossible to break it down and reorganize it into something efficient.
