Pokemon Fan Games

ok Holla Forums

have you ever played a pokemon fan game / fan hack / anything unofficial?

if so, what would you recommend as an absolute must to someone who wants to dabble in the fan game scene and only play the absolute best?

Any romhack made by Drayano, Blaze Black & Volt White being the most popular.

If you seriously have to ask us OP, then I doubt you will EVER "get into" the fan game scene. Part of getting into the fan games is being into the community itself

I've started making a game, it will involve a "Press Turn" system similiar to the MegaTen series (landing super effective hits makes your monster move up in the turn order, while landing a resisted or ineffective hit mext the enemy's turn come sooner) on a grid battle field, like the Mystery Dungeon games but in three dimensions (for flying an swimming monsters)

My ideas for starters (which i wanted all to be invertebrates) is so far:
Grass: A grass/fairy moss animal controlling a large hornwort (a kind of moss). As it evolves, the animal splits, becoming a colony on the maturing plant
Fire: A polychaete lindworm that starts as a pure fire type, but becomes fire/dragon at the last stage. The second or third stage might be called "Hearthwyrm" (earthworms are annelids like the polychaetes). The first stages is a trochophora larva. The line will also naturally learn a few posion moves
Water: A water/bug water skorpion, which is an aquatic true bug. A possible name (maybe for the initial stage) is "Buguatic".

Has there ever been a fangame with custom pokemon that don't look like complete ass?

hopefully mine will be, but my artstyle will emphasize realism/naturlism, so it might qualify

That's very subjective, what you think looks awful is purely speculative opinion at best and has no objectivity. Stylistically Pokemon Uranium doesn't look bad.

I looked over the list, and it does look bad.

yeah it's called sage

forgot to link the sprites page, the sprites have a much more consistent style.

capx.wikia.com/wiki/Sprites

Those look pretty alright, overall

I like it.

I want to obtain a Gnuru and spread the might of open source software as a pokemon trainer.

these look great, especially if you compare them to that trainwreck of edginess fangame with "nuclear" monsters and shit

would you consider sacrificing pokemon to improve another one as a game mechanic to be edgy?

Uranium has a lot of good stage 1/2 Pokes, from what I heard they only had one spriter for the end half of development so the sprite quality suffered and a lot of stage 2s and 3s where rushed.

What fucking deadline?

is this a rethoric question?

nine
years

HEH

no, itll be a mechanic in my fan game

Your grass type's final evolution doesn't sound very huggable. Rule #1 of starter Pokemon is that all their forms must be huggable.

Guess I'm checking out Sage today

The deadline of "I want to fucking get on with my life already" most likely

if you can hug a bigass hedgehog, you can hug a colony of bryozoans

Pokemon Altair and Sirius didn't get that memo.

You can hug all those starters user.

sage was started on the old 4ch /vp/ board which is the pokemon board not porn.

Is the production of this game dead? It seems like they haven't made progress since the 4chan purge of 2013.

Why doesn't the Pokemon Company just buy these designs, take four extra to think of their own, better designs, and generally call it a day after Sun/Moon.

I mean, look at this shit, the new designs are so simple and streamlined, it's disgusting.

**four extra years

I know it's not a JoJo reference, I just wanted to post Josuke

some of them are really fucking stupid but for the most part it's better than the shit pokemon comes up with these days

The Thoraxe one is kind of weird considering there aren't any axes in pokemon.

I know where this is leading to, let's jump to the point.

Ok so when I was younger I actually used to live in a farm with my family, we owned some animals but my favorite was the chicken.
It was just beautiful, a really nice hen, I took care of it most of the time and even named it and shit.
So you see, one interesting thing about hen is that they actually lay eggs without a rooster, although this is interesting it actually made me very sad because I always wanted some chick, I asked my dad for a rooster but he said "no, we have enough animals", so I began playing with the eggs secretly.
I'd give a personality to each, and break and eat the ones that misbeheaved, I didn't have many toys so it worked just right, you imagine how I felt when I saw pokemon though, it all began when there was just some random episode on tv and there was an Exeggcute on it.
So I began laying my eggs just like Exeggcute, and also drawing the faces on them, I prayed that there'd more pokemon episodes with him every time I watched tv, even broke the one on the back, honestly I knew shit about pokemonat the time, but I knew it was a game so I begged for ~6 months for it, along with a gameboy, I was actually doing pretty well at school at the time(besides p.e.) so I actually got one, I searched far and wide for an Exeggcute, and when I finally got him I dumped my whole team and started grinding him for a possible evolution, god how much I wanted him to evolute, I was thinking "I wonder if it's more eggs?" and I thought of all the delightful new ways I'd be able to roleplay with my eggs if I had both Exeggcute and his evo.
Anyways it took me until he was level 70 to finally realize that he needed a leaf stone, but fuck when I finally did…
I mean, Exeggutor was no longer just eggs, it was an egg monster now, god it was so awesome to me, fuck I was so happy back then.
I kept playing with eggs and I had at least ~6 exeggcutes in real life up until my dad found out(I was about 14-15), and he made me stop, shortly after our hen died, I cried for weeks.
So eventually I become 18 ok and dad sends me off to live alone and go to college, and it finally gives me the freedom to play with eggs again, I get mine from a nearby farm, fresh. Yeah it's a bit more expensive, but it's worth it.
Fuck, I love eggs

Damn, there are some really good ones in there.
A shame that it's all wasted on a RPG Maker game.

Because all of them either break design rules (certain typing combinations ie: water/fire) in place, overlap excessively with existing pokemon (wispern is litwick) or are legitimately just bad. Stuff like Forthorn clashes horribly with the base aesthetic, other stuff like Kairoglyph just looks bad.

You, and a good number of others, are making a fundamental mistake: novelty is not quality. Pokemon may be on a moderate downward trend but that doesn't make these fan pokemon any better.

user…

You know what I really hate?

How literally everything tends to have a Normal subtype for no reason. It's fucking NORMAL. A Dragon shouldn't have that. Pyroar shouldn't have it. Heliolisk shouldn't have that.

I had an idea for designing pokes for the mainline series once. My starters started out pure so players can get used to the type match-ups. Then the starters became dual-types at stage 1. The starters were a clover sylph that evolves into Grass/Fairy with the hidden ability Magic Guard, a wolverine that evolves into Fire/Steel with the hidden ability Regenetator, and a turtle pirate that uses his shell like a raft that evolved into Water/Fighting with the hidden ability Shell Armor.

As for games. I wanted a Pokémon strategy RPG but Pokémon Conquest delivered. I wouldn't mind a proper real-time Pokémon action/RPG that isn't Rumble. Fuck that game after the first one.

Did they ever even release those pieces of fucking shit or give anybody access to the power plant in X/Y?

Fucking GameFreak.

thats not a rule, how do you even come to that conclusion?
were you triggered when gliscor had flying/ground?
thats been a thing since gen3
thats your opinion, being more than a ball with eyes doesnt make bad design, none of these are more complex than existing monsters

im probably just falling for bait

Yes, with the movie
It does suck that youre just handed them now and dont get to fight/catch them.

Axew line?

There are no axes in pokemon.

Blazeblack/voltwhite, it's been mentioned but I'll elaborate on why I like it a bit more.

Do NOT try to nuzlocke it. They turn things up on you.

Also it does at core what I always want out of a pokemon game that they never ever fucking do. Which is to make all the pokemon available from the get go rather than locking off the majority to post game bullshittery.

The first bushes of the game contain all the national rats, birds, and bugs from all the games and so on and so forth so there is some actual method to it rather than say, a randomizer which might lead you to running into a fucking mewtwo in the first grass tile.

Biggest downside to it is that almost all the gym leaders are fucking double/triple battles and I hate that shit.

Normally partial to grass starters but that one is pretty lame.

Digging that fire starter though.

I have been watching a guy do nuzlocke Drayano hacks and other "hard mode" hacks for a while now, he just started doing volt white recently. He doesn't even overlevel or anything either, his team is almost always a couple levels under the gym's, sometimes on par.
He still fucks up all the time because he likes to fast forward during battles, killing his own mons because he wasnt paying enough attention.

It was pretty funny when he had to give up a encounter because it was a wild Axew with dragon rage so if he didnt run it would 1 or 2 hit kill every member on his team.

Hijole, que bien, cabron.

there is a reason pokemon made a ton of weird fucked up pokemon, its to break up the monotony of nothing but 4 legged cat pokemon and birds, which these people didn't seem to gt

These are mostly pretty good designs by themselves, but put together it looks like a sea of the same, my vision starts to blur. If I look at a list of official pokemon my eyes are attracted to the uniqueness of each

...

How is Ludicolo mexican? Also, there are other Pokemons that resemble mexicans?

what is your opinion of letting pokemon have access for all their level up moves (that they have reached the level for) at all times plus four taught moves?

You serious, hombre?

Would be tedious to navigate through the moves, but it would good for more variety in battle.

Oh, bueno.

That's too much, six moves would be fine.

a lot of these are pretty good, seem to be a lot of 2 stagers, which might be better, I don't know. The only one that looks like blatant furry OC is the cubzero line.

Cubzero is the standard generation dog, like Zigzagoon, poochyena, etc.

Battles work perfectly for 4 moves. Add more and you'd have Pokemon that can do fucking anything, or have absurdly great coverage. Not to mention make picking teammates less of a thing.

I think what user was saying was having a Pokemon have access on a different menu to all their moves, and being able to swap between the 4 usable ones on the fly. Which would be more convenient, but throw off the balance of the single player campaign a bit. Of course, not like GF cares about that.

pokemon Sage

Zigzagoon wasn't a dog.

racoon dog, aka tanuki
not literally a dog, but fills the role

Where is the third gym in Vega?

Has there ever been a lewd pokemon romhack?

Don't

So far, the closest thing is Moemon.

I was desperately looking for something that looks like shit but they honestly all look pretty good and some of them even look like they could be in an actual Pokemon game, Viipii for example.

make one
make an romhack X or Y and call it "Pokemon H" :^)

Why

they probably worked on these longer than gamefreak does with a given batch, to be fair

Kek

Alternatively, and now that I remember, there's the Busty May mod for Pokemon ORAS. Also, there's a mod that make her naked, but nothing more.

I doubt it, maybe it's just a really autistic community that submitted really good ideas.

Gee, I wonder.

True they are working for a big company forcing them to release furrybait as soon as possible, but those fan made mons, most of them, are far more original than any recent official gen

I suppose having an entire community woeking o them instead of just a bunch of people helps with creativity

Isn't a community a bunch of people?

Isn't it possible to add Pokemon to Pokemon Showdown? I want to try sticking in some Fakemon for fun.

The better question is, when's rotation battles in Pokemon Showdown

Pic related

They did crazy shit. It was by committee, but it had to get over 2/3rds of the vote to get in. And designs were tweaked over and over and over until it got 2/3 approval again.

How democratic of you.

Ah fuck, I didn't mean to name-fag. I was in a thread elsewhere.

And yeah- red handed. I'm working on it.
I was gonna fess up in my second post.

I sort of assumed you did, given that you know how they choose designs.

Why are so many Mexican pokemons? The game region is mexico or something?

Yep. Much like how the regions have been based on areas of Japan/America/France, "Urobos" is based in South America.

Not all south america is mexico, but whatever. I hope it have some cool Jungles, at least.

Oh boy have we.
It's the dark patch in the bottom left.

Nice. It actually looks really good. Any chance you guys could make it 3DS compatible? It would be damn nice to play on 3DS.

They're shit. Almost all of them have way too much going on, which is hilarious considering how many people complain about actual pokemon being over designed.

A heavily modified RPG Maker game that plays just like a Pokémon game. What more does a Pokémon game need?

It's designed for one screen on PC.
Though I'm not against anyone modifying it.

It's open source? I can just port it myself.

Well, the folder you'd download has the .exe and all the content of the game in the folder along with it.

So if you've got all that and know how, I suppose ya could convert it.

But that isn't my area of expertise.

I'm gonna get this out of the way and ask, rough guesstimate of next update? I'm aware that you guys don't like to specify but I must have some timeframe to dump my dreams into.

Well, one faggot was in the middle of porting Undertale to the 3DS, I'm sure me and some other autist can do the job. It would be easier if you could ask your group of autists, tho. Porting games to 3DS shouldn't be hard now that homebrew and CFW is accessible.

modding capabilities
non-tile based movement
interesting minigames
being able to have your pokemon behind you ala HGSS(although this one's possible in aru pee gee makeru
reworking the HM system
letting you use pokemon as a mean of transportation instead of needing bikes
race battles maybe?
just my opinions

Mosshroom and Lumishroom are shit. They look like a heap of grass with mushrooms on them. Especially Mosshroom, I had to look very hard to notice that pile of grass even had eyes. You have to make them more distinctive.

God damn I can't wait for the release of this.

I think that's the point.

I meant the color pallet.

you've got my attention, could you explain some of these? Dragon Boneyard in particular?

Why are Dragons so special?

Next demo which goes up to 3rd gym is "Soon"TM (this year).
Then we're going under thanks to what happened to Uranium and AMR2 until its done.

This was made before the Fairy Type existed. Also, Faries would probably have a whole "return to nature" thing instead of a graveyard.

The Scrapyard is where all of Dronia tends to send their old metal to be recycled. Teenagers tend to loiter around it, but they're harmless. You'd have to be a real jerk to turf them out.

The boneyard has plans, but we're focused on earlier areas first. As you mentioned fairy I think it's best to mention we're not including fairys or megas. Development started before the last gen, so we're kind of set in our ways and generation.

As for the deep jungle, I wonder what you could find…

Dragons have big bones and are infamous for being tough. Seeing a boneyard of them is pretty spoopy.

Oh yeah.
Well, damn, I don't have a witty retort for that.

do you have a plan for if nintendy C&D's the project, would there be a secret resource dump as some kind of plan B?

Are there any other fangames that brought that tried to use shadow pokemon?

The only one I remember off the top of my head is Pokemon rejuvenation, but that's a part of the Pokemon Reborn Tumblr crowd.

the only people who complain about that are shitters like yourself

Wiki would probably be dead, but we make back-ups.

The plan if we don't get C&D is to spread the final game as far as we can before we get one.

Now if we get one in the middle of development- lets say we developed it in secret, then released it to the public. It's obvious it's us, so we'd get sued.
Hell, that might happen even if someone else took the reigns.

We have plans to keep under until it's done, and places like this will get a link- but once we get that threat of massive fines- we're dead.

understood, I'm looking forward to seeing this get made, is there an ETA?

Better keep yourself in anonymity then. Look at AM2R. Better push the damn 3DS port, fag

Since gen 2 even.

Huh? There's a ton of strange and not animal based pokemon in there.

All of those are possible on RPG Maker though

no.

The tile one isn't, but with heavily modified RPG maker the other ones are more than possible.

OK gotta admit that got me laughing.

Mythical pokemon have always been freely distributed user. Deoxys is the one exception, but before ORAS he was also freely distributed.

There's been pixel based movement scripts since forever. Hell, googling just now gives me a result from 2007
