Also, Spla2n better have apartments for your inklings that you can decorate with awards, weapons, and frame shirts from previous Splatfests in. Splatoon is good, but it'd be great if there were comfy things to do in the game's down time.

Why the hell didn't they let you keep Splatfest T-shirts in any capacity? They couldn't have even bothered to surprise us by removing the text that said you'd have to return it for the last one and waiting to see if anyone noticed? How about giving the amiibos at least the function to do that (and maybe make night-time stages available any time). Even just making a neutral splatfest T-shirt show up at the store (like when you see someone of a different region wearing one) would be appreciated.

A lot of laziness and incompetence with Nintendo handling their first big online multiplayer game (that probably sold Wii Us better than anything else). -and they use goddamn amiibos as an excuse to end no-effort support for a gameplay element (now making night stages only possible with hacking and shit). No, adding Splatoon content for a different game most people got tired of forever ago doesn't make it better.

I gotta say I loved the amount of detail put into the opening screen for Splatoon, and I really would love to be able to decorate an apartment, or at least your own room with all sorts of little things and knick knacks.

Arowana mall and walleye warehouse are the best maps for ranked. They work well with each game type where the rest of the maps only seem to work well with 1-2 gametypes. Is there any differing opinions? I'd like to see arguments against it in case my opinion gets in the way too much.

Arrowana mall feels way too much like a kill zone in the dead center and there isn't really a way around it. Although I guess funneling the main action into a few particular places without the aid of power weapons/powerups is pretty good game design my blaster has issues out shooting squids.

Granted I could be just salty on going from S 40 to S 41 after an hour and a half of playing.

I also really don't care to see walleye warehouse, although I'll agree that other than maybe tower control which feels decently funneled it's a solid map design wise.

Personally I'm far more of a Saltspray Rig , as the various paths around the map gives it a more robust feeling.

Let's settle an old score

I consider saltspray rig a god tier splatzone map and a decent tower control map. The real problem is how it plays as a rainmaker map. I only play rainmaker on it a few times, but those matches were some of the worst matches I ever played. Where as arowana and walleye may not have any god tier gametypes, all of their gametypes are at least decent/good. Still, I can tell you got some good taste.

Going to fully agree with you on Rainmaker Saltspray. I pretty much had to replace all instances of it with Splatzones in my head while I was writing about it.

Trash. A holdover from the dev team's initial fear of designing maps without a big SHOOT PEOPLE HERE zone in the middle and narrow alleyways along the side. TC isn't too bad, but RM and SZ are one-dimensional.
A very good map, although dynamos can exploit it during splat zones; this doesn't bother me too much since they got nerfed to have a regular roller's killbox.

I love Saltspray, but my problem with it is that RM is wet garbage and TC is middling at best since they each use a small fraction of the map. Both of those game modes inherently make the action go across the map, but due to the placement of the bases it just doesn't work out well: you always end up funnelled into the tiny walkways under each base, and spam weapons like luna blasters and dynamos really take advantage of the killing zone.

Splat zones is much more suited to Saltspray - almost every part of the map is relevant, and all the weird geometry (elevators, pipes, walls, etc.) can be useful. The map's intention as an "exploration" map from early in the game's life cycle really shows.

The thing about Arowana is that it doesn't funnel because there isn't any wide area to funnel people down from. It's just a pipe with some secondary pipes along the side. Fighting in each team's courtyard is pretty good, but mid is just a mess because your movement options are so restricted.

If we're doing a proper event, then it's kind of like five-point CP in TF2 except each capture point is a gametype. You play an initial game of [mode A] on [map A], and if Team 2 wins they advance to the next gametype of [mode B] on [map B]. If Team 2 loses that one then it's back to [mode A] and [map A]. We keep playing until one team gets all the way to the end of the rope, so to speak.

Why?

Walleye Warehouse, Arowana Mall, Urchin Underpass, Museum d'Alfonsino and Flounders Height are objectively the best maps in the game, they're perfectly balanced for every game mode.
Then you have maps like Saltspray Rig, Blackbelly Skatepark, Moray Towers, Mahi-Mahi Resort, Hammerhead Bridge and Ancho-V Games which are great for two particular game modes but they're still pretty descent maps overall.
Then you have absolutely shit maps like Kelp Dome, Port Mackerel, Bluefin Depot, Camp Triggerfish and Piranha Pit which are designed specifically for one game mode and suck ass at every other, they're not even that good for the game mode they were design for compared to other maps.

I personally love the games, but the earlier games are mechanically flawed in terms of gameplay. It's best to play the remakes of the first three games called Re;birth. However it is best to get those on the PC for now so you can get the re;translation for Re;birth 2 and 3. The newest game has pretty solid mechanics,the best in the series so far. However the game really isn't for everyone and it's mostly niche so there's possibility you might not enjoy it if you don't like the girls enough to get past the somewhat shitty mechanics. And usually you could just visit the thread if you have any questions but the OP was kind of fucked this thread.

Echolocator is definitely not as oppressive as it used to be, but it's still one of the most solid specials. I can mostly respect what these guys say but it's painfully obvious they never got higher than B if they can't recognize the utility of fucking wallhacks.

Disruptors are a beautiful thing I only wish I had something else to throw since the blaster can get ran through pretty easily if you don't have the drop on them. People even these days tend to freak out when it's thrown on them though, especially if it points them out on a direct hit

I have found my spirit weapon. It's like the luna blaster, but I don't have to inhale dicks 24/7 in order to use it, and I'm actually rewarded for getting better at the game instead of being encouraged to degenerate into a quick respawn stacker. It's the only good two zone map. I guess it's due to how close the zones are. Tower should have been a one zone and the pit is painful.

And make chargers even more oppressive? No thanks. That configuration of Moray Towers is one of its better stage layouts because it keeps the fighting focused on a couple of small areas where chargers aren't necessarily the best weapons.

You got a point, but at the same time the times I played that map the teams I got never seemed to be able to hold one of the two locations. I feel if they moved them a little closer it would improve the stalemate that seems to happen on that map. The pit I would like a change, but I can't think of a good location for the two zones.

How's everyone's quest to s+? I've been hovering in the 40-50 area of s. The many matches I've played have changed my opinion on certain maps. I even changed my opinion on two area splatzones with the amount of ranked I'm playing. I'd rather have a net increase that goes up, but to not be in a+ is good too. I also found the weapons I like to use in ranked. It's different per map, but that's ok.

I was doing okay and managed to almost get back into the S40 range, until a bad string of disconnects landed me into S16, hovering around that point at the moment. Carbon Roller fast attacks are driving me up a wall, among other things

I am already a regular at mumble and I am usually very calm with this game (deranked god knows how many times), but this month I have been feeling depressive depths I have never felt before and yet I still wanted to bet on my skill on doing decent enough so that I can feel good, I am trapped in a cycle I can't break.
