I had a conversation with one of the former(?) 4chan/Holla Forums admins a while back on another forum. He told me that the main reason why 4chan was a dead board was because there were literal bots that would spam threads on subjects over and over using spun content - and 4chan does nothing about it.

I have no doubt that bots are a part of shilling. They have been for some time, especially on unsecured boards where normies congregate.

I wonder when this became the norm. If I had to guess, maybe as early or as late depending on how you estimate it as the jessi slaughter shitstorm where 4chan got taken offline and then when it came back some guy made a blogpost on a thread saying that 4chan is now routed through FBI servers.

Aside from that, I still remember seeing how uncanny posting and poster habits are. Some replies and posts are so inane and nonsensical that to call them non-sequiters when in reply to other posts would be completely invalid. Nothing about the speed and repetition of 4chan feels normal like there's any human behind each post.

I've seen artificialish shitposts constantly bump threads on 4chan vg, especially right before interest in a game dies. I suspect it's now standard practice in order to keep threads up for a couple weeks after release, sometimes using the same posts if the marketing team is shitty. A lot of the times the posts selected were deliberately (in an illogical way) hating on the game or bringing up faults, because those topics bumped the thread more.

Did anyone here ever spend time on four twenty chan? Remember their Netjester bot? Kirt, their admin, former SA, made a bot that learns from posts on the board and sometimes replies to threads on Holla Forums and sometimes follows posters around replying to them. I don't know the status of it now, but it was a part of the board for many years, hell maybe almost ten years now. Think of all the posts it learned from. The AI itself wasn't too convincing and frequently didn't make sense. One person managed to get in a conversation with Netjester, kept nobumping the thread, and fed it lines like KILL OBAMA and 99999 over and over again. The posting style of Netjester on Holla Forums changed. It would spit out things like "9 assinate 9 Obama 9 from 9 to 9 in a half." Eventually Kirt noticed that and fixed the bot. But that got me thinking. What role does Kirt / Netjester play in all of this? It was probably one of the first decent efforts at making a chan AI bot.

I'm going to test their ability to read concatenation the next time I run into one. The most obvious way to have an AI read text is to have it read it as a string and break up the sentence by recognizing a space ( ) as a separator.

However, suppose you used _ instead of a space. Maybe it would read everything as a whole word and be completely incapable of responding. If so, you could use a simple autohotkey script to detect your application as your browser and replace all space key inputs as something else. It wouldn't be able to read anything you say.
