Can you recommend any reading online about Stoicism? I have read the Wikipedia page before and it made these philosophers seem like deterministic commies which disappointed me. I have read small other descriptions that interest me but didn't know where to start.

meditations is not an easy read, especially if you don't read philosophy, but everyone should read it.

The Greek title literally means 'to himself' as Aurelius never intended for the work to be shared, let alone published. It was more of a philosophical diary. He repeats himself a lot and sometimes his train of thought makes strange departures from whatever he's talking about. As you read it though you will begin to understand the work and the point of the work as a whole.

Stocism looks at death as a duty, something you have to do, and do well, as part of your obligations in life. The Stoics made choices to live a certain way, they didn't simply accept what came to them with indifference.

Regardless, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius should be 100% required reading.
