Why do Plebs by Oculus or vive over this? Do retards actually believe shitty Wii motes are worth the extra $400?
Why are

What's retarded about wanting something that can actually be pretty fucking cool as long as you aren't paying stupid amounts of money for?

Marginally better because of optics, HMDs still aren't good enough to be a major improvement over putting a decent phone into a cardboard box with plastic lenses. It's still a gimmick.

tell me more

...

The vive controllers are the only way to have fun with VR at this time.

Try complaining again when we have real VR games that can actually utilize mouse/keyboard/console controllers properly.

Google Cardboard and similar cardboard headsets you slide a phone into works more or less the same as the dedicated VR headset devices. Biggest difference is you don't get the niftier stuff like motion controls or built-in headphones and the like but if you're just looking for muh immersion then it's a far cheaper method of getting the same thing than a dedicated headset.

It's shit and it barely works.

...

...

im looking for depth perception

Then the whole thing will be touch-and-go since from what I've read that's a problem for some people no matter how expensive the headset.

...

At this point in time you're a retard for buying into VR unless you have an income over $50,000. At that point specs alone are the deciding point.

Like most VR, then.

...

Without accurate eye tracking you can forget it, it'll always feel like you're looking down a magic tunnel that's strapped to your face the second your eyes move in their socket.

And considering the computational requirements of eye tracking we're not going to see it being done in a realistic manner any time soon.

It's not even VR, it's just stereoscopic 3D with motion tracking. We had this shit since 90's with SONY helmets and whatnot.
Don't buy into this meme.

Both Morrowind and half-life have VR support. Play those instead of shitty wagglen games.

If you're thinking of buying one of these OSVR HDKs for development it makes sense otherwise as a consumer device VR is still just an expensive novelty with little worth trying out on it.

If you're not really into 3d art, stereoscopic video/photography production, serious driving/flying simulators or game development it's a waste of time and money to get involved with VR.

People used to prognosticate about how interactive pornography would be a huge selling point for it ignoring that our largest erogenous zone is the brain. Turns out that looking at lifeless 3d models in VR isn't much of a turn on.

Shits already dead

The only thing I would like to even try with VR are the STALKER games. But no matter how passionate about stalkan I am, I won't be spending several hundred bucks just for that.

best choice of headset except too bad VR is shit anyways, Razer did nothing wrong with this headset

VR done right is magical. It makes already good games amazing ones because you feel like you are in the game.

The only issue is that most devs are focusing on making shit wagglen games instead of porting already good games to VR.

Says the turbo virgin autist glued to a screen jacking off to anime. You're totally fighting the machine, bro!

...

You mean more theoretical game support. Facebook will just buy exclusivity by dropping a fat check on developers of things they want. After all, they already spent $2 billion for Oculus, what's another million or two securing a competitive advantage? Contracts in entertainment media always trump technical specs or "open-ness," which is why Linux is DoA as a game platform.

>marginally
I could understand this level of sour grapes if the HDK2 would cost 800 and the Vive 400, but it's the other way around.

Enjoy your walking sims and gimmick games, because that's all there will be for the next five years.

The HDK2 also supports SteamVR games and actually works on Linux, so I might buy one someday for /agdg/ purposes.

...

There's a new samba de amigo game being made for the vive.
There is not for the hdk2.

It's my fallback option if PC drivers for PSVR take much longer than expected.

Newsflash friend:
SteamVR supports not only generic HMDs but also generic wagglan devices. If it works on the Vive, it'll also work on whatever motion controller you buy for use with the HDK2. If you're into wagglan there should soon be support for the Wiimotes you surely already own.

Actually, they were working on a motion controller interface for the HDK2, it should be working by now (won't bother checking, it wasn't a particularly difficult thing to do). Getting the game to be displayed and position tracked on HDK2 was already a thing, even on previous version of the OSVR headset, so yeah, you will be capable of playing that on HDK2.
VR headsets aren't consoles… well, the Oculus sort of tries to create a walled garden, but Steam's VR doesn't, neither does the HDK2.
There are also plugins for other motion tracking system or even multiple movement tracking controllers at once (wagglan and gloves, gloves and rifleshaped controller, etc.).

There's that worthless buzzword again while the only HMD I've ever had interest in buying was the HDK for use with FLOSS programs like OpenMW, Blender, Dolphin and others. Installing DRM ridden spyware like Steam or that Facebook store was never an option and isn't supported on Linux anyways.

I assumed that they were going to be using similar screens to the Vive/CV1 but with that screen filter to reduce the screendoor effect and better lenses not an entirely different one. I'm glad to hear it's a lot better than the competition at a lower price while being open and free to developers.

tbh sour grapes more often than not is the most likely fitting description of VR naysayers as the mood didn't shift after the sellout to Zuckerberg, but after the reveal of the price. Good for you if you're not one of those faggots. Was quite shocking to see the difference between the moderate outrage after the betrayal vs the total chimpout after the not at all surprising shift into overkike mode.

Is everyone just disabled or something? I tried the Vive demo, and you can walk around fine.

...

yes.
plus the extra support via valve.

I still don't know why people bring up the virtual boy when discussing VR.

That thing was a monochrome 3D display, it's nothing like current VR headsets.

did they finally made some amazing lewd VR games? Can I be with my waifu?

That's the fucking average salary for a 2 year degree. At most that's going to cost you like $20k in students loans, which you could pay off easily in 2-5 years if you find a job post-degree.
I came from a lower-middle to middle-middle class family and I made like 3x the salary of my father after like 5 years of working. You're a retarded normalfag if you can't manage to get anything above $13/hr. Learn to save money.

and modern VR is trichfomatic 3D display, so all your really doing is sticking 3 virtual boys to your face.

they're either being retarded on purpose or never actually tried it and are just parroting what they read on another place. nobody is this stupid

i have shekels so i might just buy that if it's an upgrade. the wagglan is shit though and even if it wasn't i already have 4 wii remotes that work better, are much more mature and cost 5 bucks. I only use vr displays for first person games since all the made for vr games are garbage, i also tried it on a 3rd person game and it's actually not so bad since it makes me feel like god

Probably my fault, I posted something along those lines here two or three times. I actually have a Vive and I feel pretty fucking pukey whenever movement that doesn't originate from my physical self happens.
I can walk around myself in VR just fine, but I couldn't play morrowind or fallout 3/4 in VR.

They do that teleporting shit because of people like me. I am so sorry.

The best VR in existence is the VR 9-0K Flex. Bad news: you can't buy one. You couldn't buy one even if you had the money, and if they sold it it'd be about 90 million because it's partially organic and it actually grows.

Good news: you don't need to buy it because you've been wearing one since the day you were born.

More bad news: you can't take it off because you don't know it's there.

Worse news: it has only one "game", but it's a huge game. You can't win, though.

OSVR hasn't been marketed at all. Really, the only people who know about it are tech/VR enthusiasts and developers. Oculus was bought out by Facebook, which is probably the second or third most popular website in the world and is used by 1/7 of the world's population. The Vive was developed by Valve and HTC. Valve has a monopoly on the computer gaming market and combined with HTC, have a total equity of nearly 60 billion USD. Not only can they advertise their products on a global scale for free, but most investors are only interested in the Oculus and Vive because of all of the billions of dollars behind them.

I played Quake II on the first DK OR and on the second one. No sickness whatsoever. Actually walking yourself around is even less likely to induce motion sickness, even on first time users.
It is mostly about getting used to it.

Let's expand on that then.

The Virtual Boy didn't include anything that was immersive, had a low resolution display, and had bad focus.

I actually owned a Virtual Boy back in the day, and I've also used the DK1, DK2, and Vive, and can say the Virtual Boy is a worthless comparison to make, and anyone who knows what they're talking about isn't going to bother making it.

And there's no intention of marketing it to the PC gaming community, they want developers and tech-savvy users who won't bother them with troubleshooting questions during setup or asking for an app store. They're selling it for little profit as the intention is to have owners create value for their brand and spread the word about it, not leech off them through spying and taking a cut through an app store.

They know there's no point in competing directly with either Vive or Facebook. Instead of being a publisher for their platform they open it up and let thousands of software developers integrate compatibility into existing products.

4-5 years from now they should have a healthy amount of support software wise and all the major bugs ironed out once a consumer version is released. Considering the rate Facebook is fucking up with their 'open VR platform' it'll be a welcomed change to people who are fed up with locked down devices. Valve drone are unlikely to ever get a clue unfortunately.

oy vey the matrix sounds like a cool game

Actually they're concentrating on the asian market with emphasis on the chinese market. In the west it looks like your interpretation but that's not the whole story.

Only the retards who can't stand 60 fps can't walk around.
Besides, there are already fixes for it so you don't get sick by putting black bars on the sides of the screen.

On one hand, lower FOV means you need less fps to avoid motion sickness, so your statement is technically true. On the other hand, no, that doesn't fix the motion sickness problem and even if it did, a lens assembly with lower FOV would be a far smarter way to implement this fix as you wouldn't throw away res this way but increase perceived res by having more pixels per degree of FOV.

Ross managed to fix his motion sickness by doing it.

He fixed his motion sickness by turning non-cockpit games into cockpit games by adding the virtual cinema. It's NOT about the reduced FOV, it's the added stable reference frame that eliminated his motion sickness. You don't have to reduce FOV to achieve this, the virtual cinema could be an IMAX dome and the motion sickness would still be gone.

Ross Scott abandoned the US to leech off welfare with some (((zydowskurwa))). Stupid goy.

That's actually not true, there are a few motion controllers on the market right now for things like the GearVR and Google Cardboard, they're not as responsive as Vive but work as good.

Most people have phones and they have fair specs. More than enough to add 2Dto3D conversion and maximum VHS post proscessing.

So 3D just needs to be extremely cheap, with expensive options for more style.

Everyone can try it, like it. It can become more standard.

Just a set of glasses that can have the phone secured to it. HDMI/USB-C to wireless transmitter. Decoded by the phone. A cable would be better but people don't like to be goodlooking or have high quality anything.

So any source with HDMI/USB out.

Plug in transmitter/open program.
User puts on glasses. App auto starts and searches for signals.

Suddenly 3D. Also everything on phone 3D albeit half res. Phones have high res anyway and high res is always bad.

Big phones will look stupid. Eventually they'll be built into glasses. The source of the signal elsewhere. Cinemas as part of other entertainment areas. No screen needed. People pay for their chairs/playltform to move around with the action.

Pay to join in an adventure, multiple times differnt experiences because different crowd.

From glasses to contact lenses.

So no screen, no need for massive space. Grandeur could go into system. Select intensity and try to make it to the ending. One for singles, 1 for couples. 1 for families.

Theatres could remain. Use glasses to see movie in 3D.

Not keen on wireless myself, but it does save materials as cables aren't required.

TLDR
A good alternative would just be something to hold your phone near your head with lenses to put the screen in focus. Simple 2Dto3D conversion on it. Tilt sensor to send input info alongside camera, but not nescessary.

A hefty unit is a waste. The cost will have most wait for others to buy it. Glasses and everyone would use it in a fad.

As for software 2D to 3D conversion and a massive FOV is enough incentive to make all computing, game playing.etc through it.

All art is the software for it.
Even be better for reading.

Decuring the glasses with a cord around the back of the head would be enough as a safety measure to stop them falling off.

Make for some entertaining sunglasses.

It's almost like you want to waste money, OP

It's actually 4th gen.

1st gen were these shitty HMDs from the 70's. 2nd gen were these shitty HMDs from the 90's.
3rd gen were these shitty devkit HMDs from 2012.
And now we're at 4th gen, with somewhat decent and actually usable consumer hardware.

Actually maybe it's 3rd gen. There was not much difference between 70's and 90's VR, it was equally shit, just computers got better at rendering 3d stuff.

That's a mystery user.

Daily reminder that Summer Lesson is not being distributed in the West because of SJW pressure.

What is being done about this?

Have you got a source?
I completely forgot about this

nichegamer.com/2016/06/16/summer-lesson-unlikely-come-west-due-current-climate/

They know that the moment nerds can have digital waifus they're fucked.

Summer Lesson is being developed under Harada from the Tekken team, who also said fans should have been vocal if they wanted the game nonetheless. People contacted him on twatter, but still no news about it.

However, a recent poll had japs electing the game as their no. 1 reason to buy the Playstation VR headset.

...

It gets old really fast, condensation issue, sticky hands sticky err thing, can't see shit, plus, on my vive, 1440p 60fps video are barely watchable.
Really makes you think.
Inbefore tard gimmick buyer, i have this kind of money, i am old.

...

Welfare being shitty keeps parasites at bay. We don't want any more dindu or snackbar here.

My waifu hasn't been rendered into a 3D game yet so I'm not buying it.

poor sod.
the modded version for the source engine even has full facial animation support

VR ASMR must be nirvanic.

it probably would be if anyone bothered to make it.

The main issue for me about VR is the fact that most of the games I play are either third person ones or 2D sidescrollers, so VR really doesn't have anything to offer me. In fact even some much better future iteration of VR still wouldn't have anything to offer me, at least as far a video games go.

Come back when it has room scale tracking and hand controllers.

Also penis controllers.

3rd person and 2D gameplay can still profit a lot from stereoscopic 3D output. Only exception would be 2D games not rendered in a 3D engine, but even those play better with a low latency display. So unless you're still using a CRT, even pure 2D games could profit from switching to a HMD. Damn shame 90Hz has become the lowest common denominator for HMDs, if it was 120Hz then judder wouldn't limit the use you could get out of them and could enjoy 60fps videos on his Vive. Read that Vive DKs ran at up to 120Hz. Maybe there's a way to overclock the thing?

Don't forget the realistic titties accessory

Only if it also comes in DFC size. I will have a great and powerful need for such a device.

Just get those Donkey Kong bongos
