Your fridge could take 2x or 3x its normal current to START. So if it takes only 300watts normally it might need 900 to start for a split second. Try and do that on a cheap extention cord and you risk burning up the fridge or tripping the breaker on the generator.

Also get a few smaller extentino cords and a few power strips. CFL/LED lamps.

Freeze water in tupper ware containers or plastic bottles in every spare square inch of your freezer. That was you don't have to run the genset 24/7. You could let all the extra ice carry you though the downtime.

Also a good bikelock or chain to lock the genset up.
