Depends on what you value. What makes Morrowind good is that everything it does have is good, aside from stealth, but it's not great in any single field. There are games with better story, with better gameplay, with better exploration, but Morrowind has solid implementations of most features put together in a fairly good package.
It's a shame I can't get either Gothic games working on Linux.
Wyatt Young
Not really. Morrowind has better world design, UI, lore, quests, freedom, and everything except graphics and combat animation.
Go play chess.

There's so little freedom in this game. Too "linear" for my taste even if it's not linear. The dialogs are well written and the choices are intriguing, but I find the lore uninteresting.
No, I don't believe you. Discovering vivec and learning to levitate are one of the greatest video game experiences ever.

I could never get into Daggerfall. The game was a mess, the dungeoning worse than UW somehow, the massive amount of procedural generation made the game feel boring, the landscape was more of an overworld than Oblivion, the towns were way too big for having only 5 or so real residents, etc.. And it wasn't talked about much until the last 5 years or so for some mysterious reason. I think it's like Planescape: Torment in that it was posthumously declared a 'greatest of all time' by people who never finished it and weren't alive when it released.

Daggerfall had better character creation much more options the ability to take weaknesses and strengths was awesome.
Samuel Myers
Daggerfall is a great game, but it lacks content. The people look all the same, building interiors look all the same, and the weapon sprites too. The dungeons are way too big and complex for their own sake, and recall spell isn't easy to get unlike in Morrowind. The UI is pretty bad too. But they're all mostly caused by technological limitations though. If only someone would follow and improve it's amazing formula.
Is that even possible?
David Lewis
Yeah, even had multiple endings, one for each of the people who finished it.

I was there when Planscape came out. It was a fuckin great game and all ye olde printed game press gave it great reviews. It was praised as the best and raising the bars after Baldur's Gate, so high that it would have been imposible to beat it. Despite great reviews and critical acclaim it didn't sold well. But, still it was declared "great" at launch.

I can't get Gothic II working on even Windows. I bought the physical version brand new for $5, it didn't work. I pirated the GOG version, it didn't work. Eventually I broke down and bought the Steam, and that doesn't work either. I just don't care anymore.
