Final Fantasy type RPGS were based directly off the style of old school dungeon crawlers, minus the custom class selection but still got called RPGs because they have stats and numbers.

Name a non turn-based jrpg with good combat. I'm genuinely interested. The fact that most of them have their content stretched out to a breaking point doesn't help them much either.

When I think about Jrpg's I always divide them into three groups. Borderline RPG's from Japan like Dark Souls, Dragon's Crown, Odin Sphere, Nioh etc, the 3rd person anime style action jRPG's like Ni No Kuni, Tales Series, Kingdom Hearts etc., and the Turn Based JRPG's like FInal Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Fire Emblen etc. The type of Jrpg I've never understood is the 3rd person anime style action jRPG. Their content is always stretched thin, enemies are copy and pasted in droves and the combat is never that fun.

Again, "weebs" are persecuted 24/7. There is no need for any complex.

Like I find the turn based combat in SMT 3/DDS fun as I'm never spamming my best attacks but switching up for the situation and monster I'm fighting and due to it's battle system, learning it lets you never need to grind which is the biggest + with the series in general for me.

But Turn based combat in something like Child of Light made me sleepy as it moved so slow but to some that game is considered great for mixing active and turn based with some other trinkets on it.

I would but I don't think Ive actually ever played a WRPG nor had any inkling to play one. And this goes all the way back to when I was younger and didn't know the difference between western or eastern RPGs. I just played what I liked and as it turns out what I like are JRPGs.

And I enjoy the newer less realistic style of art used in anime and games using it. There's no real argument for it being objectively shit when despite being much more simplified it still maintains a sense of realism despite being more exaggerated. This is enough to make characters look unique with the kind of structure and physical characteristics you can still give them while having a "cleaner, newer" feel. Color is always enjoyable.

Also, my stigma against most newer turn based games is that it was limitations that made them so simple as well as anything less than at least 60fps just makes it look slow with all the grinding and random battles involved, plain and simple. One reason I love action RPGs is that there's more of a sense of actual input and the benefit of things like combos that are enjoyable to execute as well as watch. If you try to go against a boss overleveled in turn based games, you're entirely at the mercy of how much damage the boss can do and for certain going to lose no matter what. They will hit you and deplete your health in a matter of turns with no way around it. In games like Kingdom Hearts and Tales the more action focus means if you're smart enough to avoid the worst attacks and strike openings with good reaction and quick thinking, which is also strategy, you can defeat a tough as shit boss despite the disadvantage and get an actual challenge. This is what I see as part of the enjoyment factor of KH2FM's Critical Mode where you have the option to play the entire game at LV 1.

As far as monster collecting goes, I'm resolute in that it should always be at least 60fps. From my impression of Cyber Sleuth on PS4 it just looks perfect. You smoothly and seamlessly transition in and out of battle with pretty visuals and grinding seemed much less tedious now that things didn't feel so slow. Just watching it was entertaining with how quickly and smoothly multiple Digimon engaged each other and traded flashy blows before returning to their owner running around at that same speed. But that's my opinion anyways. That earlier post was just me playfully trying to start an argument about turn based games.

Humanity is an ethnically homogenous force in the galaxy while the covenant are a melting pot of alien races all brought together in subjugation.
