Holla Forums and video game

I'm kind of new here and I wanted to know what Holla Forums thinks about video game?

Capitalism propaganda, the seed of the revolution or other?

Depends. If we're talking about the additional DLC bullshit, then I hate it.

But I do believe that nowadays, they can tell pretty damn good stories.

A medium which can be used for any purpose, similar to all art.

It's just entertainment.
Also it's been ruined a lot by capitalism (DLC, early access, etc.).

Most of us play them, think Capitalism has made them shittier, and think Socialism will have better games or at least not charge you $20 for a hour DLC.

They're alright. Metal Gear Solid III is the best one.

This. The videogame industry is a laissez faire simulator

I think they've never been worse in all categorizes. There was a brief period of decent writing during the "cinematic" phase in the late 2000s which caused the gameplay to suffer. While the gameplay is now slightly better, everything has become very bland and designed by committee. Most triple A games are incredible repetitive and the stories have been cut back down again similar to the early 2000s. The 2010s videogame industry is basically the worst of both worlds.

Red Faction is breddy gud :DDD

Somewhat. The Witcher 3 had a nice story. But everyone who writes games now has their head up their asses or something. They were better when all the stories were based off of the programmer's d&d campaigns.

Don't worry, we won't take away your video games. Communism won't be any different than capitalism, except the workers will own the means of production, they will become entrepreneurs that run their own start-ups collectively, like you see in Silicon Valley start-ups, but otherwise it's basically the same thing as capitalism.

This. MGS: Snake Eater is basically high art

Oh yeah check out the twitter of some of the Bioware writers if you want a laugh. The industry itself seems to have been taken over by smug assholes that follow general trends. Bland open world garbage, an obsession with "realism" , derivative character designs based on trends "like women with bow" or shitty self-inserts. Like the rest of the entertainment industry they seem completely disconnected from everyone outside of their insular world.

The Witcher 3 was pretty good but I enjoyed the Witcher 2 more. The world was more vibrant and unique in that game and everything felt more detailed and polished. The Witcher 3 suffered a little bit of the triple A repetitiveness I was talking about. Still way better then the competition. Dragon Age inquisition was awful.

Anyone wants to play wakfu (the mmo) with me?

Done long ago.

Look up Molleindustria

If you're 16, which your flag suggests you are.

Paradox taught me about world history and socialism better than school ever did

You mean the ones that make shot products no one wants and operate like ponzi schemes?

meant for

I like how you removed your flag to post that as to avoid critism

Lmao, cocksucker

Video games are for straight white manbabies who hate women and minorities.

I like pretty much every game I play

I like them even better when I don't pay for them

This is the only answer.

Of course, the profit motive inherent to capitalism ruins videogames to no end, and games (and all art) would be better without capitalism.

What is everyone playing? GGxrd for me, and for always.

Your pic and statement made me wonder - in a society where everything is free, will people even understand why piracy existed?

We're not a hivemind. I think they're can be good if they're well-programmed and not ridden with DLC, DRM or other cancer. Steam and the Xbone can fuck right off.
It has the potential to be any of those things, just like any other media.

On a related note, anybody know if I can legally acquire Stellaris without sucking off Gabe Newell, or is it a pirate's life for me?

...

GSG, Kerbal space program+mods, War Thunder, Supreme commander FAF.

I'm planning on becoming a professional video gamer after the revolution.

...

video games are a spectacle

I pirate all my games except multiplayer ones.

I don't like the hypocrisy that you can get banned for a swastika emblem or avatar, but not for a hammer and sickle.

Paradox are doing a DLC that will add different levels of puppet, eg domains, diplomatically integrated.

The only real addition looking at screenshots is British Malaya. They won't be doing any of Africa, not even Egypt. When pressed as to why no dev responded, and a moderator eventually said because there are more important things to do, and that it takes a lot of work to do portraits (see: one black portrait they stick different suits on like in Asia), flags, and historically accurate country names and parties (they don't even have fucking Hoxha as a communist leader).

What is their graphic designer doing that's so importantfor the DLC? Oh right, he's making 3D animated throwaway races for Stellaris DLC, their cash cow.

Fucking borks man.

Everything can be a part of the spectacle. That doesnt mean we should condemn them. We can also use them to subvert the spectacle, and we should be.

Paradox is some of the porkiest shit out there.

You know why Stellaris was released prematurely in a state where it was barely playable and really not that good? It just so happened that Paradox had its IPO around that time, and they needed to have a big release to bring in profits and increase investor confidence. Of course, once the people involved had cashed out they didn't really care one shit about the fact that they had left consumers with a half-finished game (well, they cared a little bit, you can't piss people off so hard that they refuse to let you pork them).

I wouldn't be surprised if they did some major cuts following the IPO, as it happens. I don't know shit about their numbers, but I speculate that once the new shareholders had taken root and the IPO was done, they'd start pruning, doing layoffs, and basically doing everything they can to maximize profit, since the people in charge until now probably didn't plan things out with long-term stability in mind (since they were going to cash out anyway), not to mention that vidya declines with employment and wages just like everything else in the world.

It's just capitalism in action. It's basically a game to see who can suck the most blood out of an animal limping along towards its grave.

This sounds like a meme to me.

This. I refuse to support capitalism by buying digital media.

OpenMW (Morrowind on Linux) and Dwarf Fortress are pretty good.

99% of videogames are a purerly escapist form of cheap and shitty entertainement.

>Communism won't be any different than capitalism, except the workers will own the means of production
shit,lazy thinking

Fun. I'm sad the Red Orchestra match against Holla Forums never happened.

Little Big Adventure 1 & 2
Grim Fandango
Monkey Island 1, 2, 3
Starcraft 1

i just realized that the underlying theme to my list is great music in vidya

That's not Communism, that's Socialism.

Society of the Spectacle is a good meme.

When I wrote that I thought it was obvious I'm making fun of these fucking questions of "are you going to take away my meaningless consumer society?", but because that's the mentality of a lot of people here I included Silicon Valley startups as a communist project just in case. Apparently it was still not enough.

I love them

especially doujin and other indie games

In my experience gamers are some of the most classcucked people in the world though, especially the corporate drones known as fanboys
