Holy Fuck! What did I get myself into? How do I unlock all these classes? Which ones do I use? The hell is with the weapons system?

I'm loving it, but I need advice.

The classes themselves get unlocked by advancing on the game, reaching a certain level with other classes or reaching a certain weapon level with any class. You will want to unlock the Majin class as soon as possible since it's overpowering every other class.

Each class has 5 or 6 levels, each unlocked by reaching certain levels with said class. So the best thing you can do to unlock them all is simply to pick one of each class, equipped with their favorite weapon, and to train them all.

For monster classes, you need to encounter them in battle. The more you defeat them, the less mana they cost for summoning, but they're restricted to their monster weapon, which is kind of subpar.

For weapons, sword is the best, thanks to both versatile skills and high-level swords having as much range as guns, but guns are a close second for interesting range and useful skills.

For characters, your main trio is efficient enough. Just remember to give some mage pupils to Flonne so she can learn offensive spells, or else she's restricted to be the healer, which sucks considering her offensive power.

For the rest, just advance the levels. You'll get the rest through the game.

So how is D5? I was looking at it the other day and I've been in the mood for something tactical. I heard the English voices are god awful, but I'm pretty sure there's Jap as well. Any other issues? I mean, this is NISA.

I've only played the demo and not even any other Disgaea and liked that well enough at least. It definitely has Japanese voices.

It was as good as any other English Dub. I liked it a lot myself.

With Disgaea and Phantom Brave ported to pc, how long do you think until we see ports of the rest of the main series?
I still haven't played 3 or 4 (or really Phantom Brave and Makai Kingdom, even though I have a psp) and I don't want to pick up a ps3 or a vita just for them to get ported

You really didn't miss much, 3 was so fucking bad and had so many content that was vita.only that I dropped it shortly after beating the main story, I assumed that 4 was the same shit so I never even played it, I say as this as someone who loved 1 and 2 and spent at least ~500 hours into them.
D2 is good though, probably the most polished one yet but the Baal fight is extremely bullshit, it's basically so hard that it sounds like something that came out of a greentext thread.
I mean, look at this:

Disgaea is meant to be exploited, so use whatever cheap tactics you want and you should have no trouble. The hardest part is not getting distracted leveling your doods before finishing the plot.

You see, that's the beauty of disgaea, you can grind to 9999 mindlesly for 15 hours straight, or you can devise a plan to go from level 1 to 9999 in a single battle(~5 mins).

first remake pretty gud takes a lot of QoL from second game. put roughly 400 hours into this game

second game remake QoL but the second game of it self expanded upon the series a shit ton. put over 2000 hours into this game

third game changed things for the worst remake was better thou. put probably a 100 hours into this game after beating the story did very post stuff

disgaea 4 was basically what Disgaea 3 was trying to do but did it a whole lot better. 500 or so hours

disgaea d2 was alright but had some issues with the game since it got translated supposedly certain fire spells caused problems never was for fire magic was always star wind ice. its pretty much a cheesy sequel to first game. beat the game and called it gud didn't feel like doing post shit with this game

disgaea 5 is by a completely new team since pretty much everyone from the original team left. but it did a lot of QoL features and overall fond a lot of the game to be pretty fun. Ps4 died due to an system update but had already 70 hours with the demo alone and was pretty much over half way thru the story.

IMO:

D1: Best Story of the Series/Horribly Outdated mechanics.
D2: Decent Story / Felonies were terrible mechanics.
D3: Worst Story of the Series / Broken Skills do +900% damage Mechanics
D4: Decent Story / Top tier Mechanics
DD2: Godawful Story that destroys many of the D1 characters / Mechanics a bit weird but on par with D4.
D5: Meh Story / Best Mechanics

Just searched for it,and I never knew that people could fix the whole game.

Why don't they port D4/D5, it can't be hard as their engine hasn't changed in a decade and they already have a PC D1.

Oh fuck I bought dd2, but it's still in the wrap. I loved those characters.

Gameplay wise,If you didn't liked D3/4 mechanics that much,it's pretty good.
Character and Story wise,however.
Remember those side characters that you loved?
They got taken out and replaced with OC Donut Steels.The game also taunts you with having a Kurtis vending machine
Also,I wonder,if DD3 comes out,how it will be?

Because there's not much reason to buy D3 if you can buy D5, so they'll release them one by one again for maximum cash.


It's still a decent Disgaea game, but the writing is just… well, NEW Disgaea writing. Alot of the drama in it felt very forced to me. Though it may be because honestly I got sick of the original trio appearing in eeeeeevery game.

It feels like D1 fanfiction, if you can deal with it, it's a solid game. Pure Flonne is pretty neat. It's a pretty short game though as far as Disgaea stories go, think it was only 10 episodes compared to the usual 13-14?

But the -real- fun starts only when you can already get to 9999 in one battle but that's not not enough, so you seek the best way of capping your stats. Shit gets wild.

It's also worth mentioning that alot of the OC Donut Steels do not even have their own sprites in DD2, they are just recolors of generic units. That kinda peeved me off.

Makes sense. Maybe they mean "Hell world" or " Hell on Earth" Moon Runes are hard.

these are tough questions, harada does a really nice job designing the characters. that they dropped the EDF team is really a shame though.
i will say theres been a startling lack of porn for the series lately though. laharl-chan sparked a lot of fan art but other than that its been largely ignored.


how in the hell can you have a direct sequel to disgaea and not include the defenders of earth? its the mystery of the decade.
is it supposed to drive the point home of just how insignificant humans are in that universe?
