How well done was the pc port of mgr? Since we can use that as a precedent for what to expect from platinum. I vaguely recall that the camera controls were some of the biggest complaints but can not verify that myself.

Actually pretty good. I only played it with a controller so I can't comment on the KB+M controls, but performance was great. On lowest settings it runs on just about anything and on high settings it looks significantly better than the console versions, just how a PC port should be.

MGR was a really good PC port. I could run it on my toaster and didn't really see many glitches besides a couple.

Also we can mod it when 8-4 cucks it.

We can play this game at 60fps mod it to be uncucked by 8-4 and high rez.

Ran well but had all kinds of weird shit with the resolution. Like the certain things like the cutting target-boxes and Stinger's lock-on area were defined by pixel-values, not by percentage of screen size, meaning the higher you went from the original console 720p, the smaller the targeting areas went.

But good port overall.

Overstatement. Nier 2 isn't marketed all that heavily and Ni-Oh is hard to predict. Bloodborne had and Te Last Guardian will have massive fucking marketing pull, not unlike No mans Sky just recently. Add to that the David Cage Power Hour, FFXV (which we all know will have a PC version down the line, Square Enix has to bank on those double dips) and various other art and movie shit and this port is barely a drop in the bucket.

Linux doesn't even universally get ports for games developed in engines with explicit Linux support where it's practically a one-click build for the platform. You think nips are going to go out of their way to accommodate the 1% of freetards? Once Zen releases and I can evaluate the options, I'm building a new system and setting up GPU passthrough. I'm tired of rebooting to Windows to play DX11+ primarily for EDF 4.1 and I'm tired of the fickle compatibility of WINE. WINE is great software, and it serves a noble purpose, but it doesn't work in every case. AA2 still doesn't render faces correctly.

If it weren't for Linux being a much, much better OS overall, I'd have given up and gone back to Windows 7 ages ago. It's too bad GPU passthrough is the best solution, because it does nothing to drive developer adoption of Linux or indicate at all that some users are dissatisfied with Windows.

Because most GNU/Linux user aren't gamers. They're comp-sci students and graduates, hackers, technology enthusiasts, anti-corporate hippies etc. I've even met GNUtards who dissent gamers for being the "biggest propagators of proprietary software" and therefore considered "pathetic" by them. To those people the very notion of paying for software like in the case of games (even in cases when the engine is free and open source) is completely unacceptable.

While this is true, most Windows users aren't gamers either. However, Windows being preinstalled on 99.9% of desktop systems sold in the world has made it the defacto standard for people interested in playing games.

Nonetheless, I think Linux could be a viable alternative platform if only the video drivers weren't in such a sad state. The GPL or die crowd definitely has a share in responsibility for that situation. I think AMD is finally moving in a productive direction with an open-source kernel driver and an optional proprietary usermode component running on top of it, but progress in supporting more devices, stability, and features is absolutely glacial. Seems like both AMD and the community are waiting for each other to do the work.

And it still doesn't address the end-user experience getting drivers setup in the first place. Out of the box, most distros use open-source drivers which are generally awful for games. Changing to another driver takes at least a tiny bit of know-how, which automatically precludes it as an option for some percentage of users. It's a depressing situation all around.

I installed linux(mint) and after downloading the drivers the highest resolution was 1024*768. I tried adding a custom resolution but I broke my computer instead. never coming back to that in the future.

I don't think you know what they meant, an SDK is from the console manufacturer and it is a set of tools for making games on it. It should have come with a lot of technology that would be extremely helpful when making an emulator for the thing. It is not the source code for No Man's Buy which is what I think you interpreted this as.

Nothing has come from the rumors yet, but I wouldn't be surprised, seeing as how Nier: Auto was just confirmed, Scalebound and TMNT are going to PC, and Revengeance, Korra, and Transformers are already on PC. Honestly I'd love to see them rerelease stuff like MadWorld, though, so I could play it in HD and without the waggle. The game was gimmicky but it was still a ton of fun. And I'd like to see the original Nier on PC as well, since I never got a chance to play it, but I realize that's not Platinum Games and would be a whole separate thing.

Honestly. Consoles are fucking useless nowadays. They no longer have the convenience of a dedicated game machine where you can just put the disc in, press power and play without worrying about overheating parts, performance issues or incompatibilities. Playing on console now means guaranteed performance issues, low framerates, updates up the ass, and something always seems to fail at some point. That shit just didn't happen with my older consoles. My early GC had the disc read error problem… ONCE, and the fat PS2 had that as well, but after one trip to the shop to get it replaced, it's been working 110% to this day. GC is just pure Nintendium strong.

My PS3 already had issues loading some games after 6 months, updates breaking, console freezing, overheating parts. I had to re-solder the RSX because it came loose and was giving me a green screen and change the thermal paste on the CPU. Ended up getting the fan utility and no problem since, except for the console being Xbox-loud. Here's the thing though: If I wanted to put up with that shit, I'd just get a PC and have all the perks of a powerful machine. I've been a PC-fag most of my life anyway.

PS4 has fucking nothing that could make me want it.

Bandai has been either making their games multiplat or PC ports for most if not all their non licensed games, this shouldnt be any different.

Nah, Berserk was a sure thing, the musou games have been ported for some time now (albeit not all that consistently), and Berserk being westaboo as fuck, even the most blind of suits would see merit in selling it to a primarily western market. I never had any doubt personally.

Hopefully it's Platinum doing the porting. If it's Square Enix, it's probably going to run like ass - FF13 Trilogy and Last Remnant being examples.

On rare occasion, they have the option of the JP or English text. Senran Kagura and EDF come to mind. The problem is that, with some releases, the JP text looks off, like it's trying to be fit into English text spacing, causing some parts of come characters to be cut off. It's probably because that's exactly what they're doing since there was no JP release on PC, so they're literally cramming the JP text into the shit that's been reformatted for English.

You could probably mod in Jap voices if that's the case and/or get a fan-translation

I first got into consoles in PS1 era since I wanted to catch up on games such as Mechwarrior 2, Driver, and Destruction Derby and at the time PC specs were increasing at an alarming rate yet they were still very expensive (so you don't even get the benefit of a top-of-the-line rig even if you spent 3 grand). I decided the lower resolution on TV was an acceptable tradeoff, and I appreciated how simple playing on a console was.

I knew that consoles – including handheld consoles – would have its days numbered once Sony stopped supporting the Vita; I originally got it for Gravity Rush and have been enjoying dungeon crawlers on it and Atelier, but just like the mobile phone has taken over all of casual gaming, PC/Steam will take over all of hardcore gaming. It's inevitable.

An API is the interface through which you use a programming library. The API is the definitions of all necessary datastructures, function definitions, protocols, and macros necessary to use a logical set of functionality (usually a library).

There's no such thing as an "API library". I'm guessing he means that No Man's Sky uses PS4-specific API calls, but those wouldn't be available on PC, and you couldn't just move those libraries legally or feasibly (most console-specific API endpoints are hardware features, not software). They could have just reimplemented the libraries themselves, but that would be more work than just using something else.

8-4 didn't add Papa Nier. Squeenix and Taro conceived the concept of making Papa Nier on Gestalt (360) and Brother Nier on Replicant (PS3) for Japan.

As for good PC exclusive games you've got a ton of old school shooters + UT4/Xonotic, Mount and Blade, Dorf Fortress, SS13, Trouble in Terrorist Town, modded minetest, and I suppose there's custom games in Dota 2, you can pretty much pretend it's WC3 with better gwafix at this point.

If you don't, your teammates will either not speak your language, be completely mute, or flame you in English. Everyone is a tryhard "muh meta" faggot and there are very few exceptions to all of this. However, if you play with friends and spend a lot of time learning the game then it's actually pretty fun. Most people don't have the patience or the friends required for this which is why I usually don't recommend it.

user, how aware are you of Team Ico's history? At any rate, none of the games by SIE Japan Studio have ever been seen on PC outside emulators. This includes BloodBorne and Demon's Souls, which they only helped publish and produce. It's why I mentioned Gravity Rush 2, seeing as it's being made in the same studio as TLG, even if it's from a different team. If Sony were to suddenly port a title - no matter how desperate they are for returns - it would be a definite admission that the PS4 (perhaps even the PlayStation brand itself) isn't worth supporting to its fullest.

All other instances of former console exclusives coming to PC have been from 3rd parties - Capcom, SEGA, Compile Heart, Square Enix, Experience inc, NIS, etc. I'd sooner expect KoF14 to suddenly be ported to PC rather than TLG, especially seeing that KOF13 was ported.

The issue at hand is whether buying a PS4 is justifiable - and this translates directly into worthwhile exclusives. If you can buy another console (handheld or previous gen) just to play a certain game, then you lessen the need of having to buy the specific console being discussed. This translates in there being less sales for the PS4 version of the game, as people might rather buy it for their Vita or their PS3. Exclusivity is exactly why there are anons in this very board who've gone out to buy a PS4 specifically to play BloodBorne, even when those same anons will have already had access to DaS2 and DaS3.

You'd be wrong, because PS4 doesn't use the dll format for libraries. It's a Windows-specific library format. PS4 would use .so libraries, as it's BSD based (which would also not work at all in any way on a Windows platform).
