I have only played up to Gen 3 and when I tried 4, I hated it from the get go. Everything from the style to how the overworld felt. I love gen 2 and just replayed it, but now I'm itching to get a 2ds because you can buy the original gens and transfer the pokemon to modern games.

I suggest trying HGSS, it's one of the least shit games of Gen 4. Gen 5 is pretty good in my opinion, but Gen 6 is kind of a low point of the franchise in how casual and not good they are. Good news is with homebrew and a flash cart you'll at most have to pay 5 bucks for Pokemon Bank unless they do another free period.

I kind of like the Alolan Forme, except I have no idea why it's Dragon type. It's going to be an awesome defensive pivot.

Yeah, but 1/4x resist to Water, Electric and Grass, 1/2x to Ground, neutral to Fire, and immunity to spores. That's a lot of ez switches.
You can also scout for bands etc. with Frisk.

It came back in Gen 4 and remained for future gens. The problem I think was that the internal clock of the cartridges would eventually die out. This was solved in gen 4 with the game using the console's clock.

You should give Gen V a try user. Easily the best and most challenging.

It's easier to tell that Sun/Moon will be complete garbage because you can follow the trend of how pokemon games have been in quality coming out all from the same developer.

So Pokemon's always been shit? Gen 1 was a mess, Gen 2 tried to fix it and did OK I guess, Gen 3's overworld looked like ass, Gen 4 was slow, Gen 5 was way too linear, and Gen 6 was the easiest yet and had severe frame-rate issues. We going that route, because I can elaborate on everything bad in the Pokemon series.

I've heard good things about the Ys series as well, but never got around to playing them. I guess my version of a backlog is "there are billions of games that exist that I haven't played yet, plus there's a bunch I know I could play forever, so it doesn't matter if no more games ever come out."
I've been playing Tactics Ogre lately, because FFT is my favorite game of all time and this does pretty much everything better. I've also got the various Disgaea games, because I haven't played Phantom Brave since like I was in high school. I also tried Dissidia, but ehhh. Got like three lists off Holla Forums full of games when I feel the need for something else.

Biggest problem, user unfriendly. I'm not sure if I've been spoiled by the later games, or if they fixed it in fucking Gen 2 because that's the only game I haven't played recently. I pirated the VC version and things like using HM moves when you press A near a place where you can use them or actually knowing what any of your moves do really helps the experience. I could go on about the balance issues but that would just be re-iterating what's been said in that one image, you know the one. Lastly, with how ugly Jap Red and Green's in game sprites were, I'm convinced the only reason they didn't flop was because of Mew. That was a neat little gimmick, it's a shame they've been taking it way too far the last few Gens.

Probably my favorite Pokemon games, but the elephant in the room is and will always be Kanto. The remakes barely fixed this, and almost made the problem worse by making the gym leaders higher level so you have to grind on fucking nothing. I think they did admirably for having to use the mess that was Gen 1 as a base, but it's still built on a pile of shit.

I dove a lot so surfing wasn't as much of a problem for me. While it improved a lot of the battle related stuff, it dropped the ball a lot of other places. The odd choices they made with the soundtrack, the ugly overworld sprites, and the beginnings of the dumb plots they try to force in that would cause problems later bring it down.

Diamond and Pear are my least favorite Pokemon games. They're slow. They have shit Pokemon distribution to the extremes. They have way too many fucking legendaries. The plot such that it is is even more dumb and intrusive. And I'm bad at video games and have no friends so the most I got out of online was the GTS which was pretty good.

Linear as fuck, the start of babymode, no major improvements from the ass end of Gen 4. At least the intrusive plot is the least shit one they've done.

We've gone over all the many problems, most of which are similar to Gen 5's but worse, with an added sprinkling of inability to make a game in 3D.

Here's the thing about the Pokemon games, they try to focus on one thing, and sometimes they do it well, but then everything else goes to shit for some reason. Third versions, remakes, and sequels sometimes fix some of it, but there's usually something lost or something not fixed that just nags at you. Gen 6 is just so much more shit because the thing they tried to do, moving into 3D, is done really awfully. Not only that, but the remakes didn't fix anything AND were worse than the third version. ORAS was only good for Secret Bases and that's it.

Maybe I'm just holding out hope for Sun and Moon to at least be better in one area. I'm not paying for it either way, so I hope it's not a waste of my fucking time.

Also, I can't speak on any spin-off games post Snap or Hey You Pikachu! I've heard the PMD games are good, but I never tried them.

Motherfucker, if you have a 3DS to I assume pirate Sun/Moon, you NEED to get Red Rescue Team injected. There's tutorials, google it you fuck AND PLAY IT. Hell get it on the Wii U eShop if you have to, even if you're paying for emulators it's the epitome of roguelites. I bought Red AND Blue Rescue Team on there because I'm shameless about my love for the series. In addition to Explorers of Sky, it's just about the only games I play on there.

Fuck the not-Social Link recruiting system though. Sure you can argue it made things less repititive, but it doesn't change the fact that it replaced randomly generated missions, which just added to how little reason you have to do any of the postgame content. Actually the battle sprites were alright. FRLG actually made it look pretty good honestly, I'm glad that style carried over to later games.

Tell me about it. Gen 5 at least looked like it was going towards a sweet spite with animated sprites. I don't think anyone would've minded if they got the battle running at least at a consistant 30 fps with 3d and did the battle scenes Stadium/Colloseum style. It seems as though the jump to full 3d was done some time indevelopment rather than very early on. I swear to god though, Gen 3 seems to embody the start of them randomly dropping stuff that may or may not reappear in later games.

I got to say Pokemon Black 2 has a really good mix of pokemans.

I've recently got sick of breeding for IVs in OR. Especially after I realized I was aiming for the wrong nature.

It should be easy to breed a 0 IV with power items if you only need one. Hidden Power is a cancer though.

I'm gonna my speculation on how the Alola forms will be different from their normal forms:

Raichu:

- Move pool will most likely remain the same with psychic moves thrown in

- Probably be more focused on Sp. A than being mixed while being slightly slower

Sandshrew line:

- Probably lose most of its ground type moves in favor of gaining Steel and Ice type moves

- Probably will have the same Stats though with a bit more focus on defenses while being slower

Vulpix line:

- Loses most, if not all, fire type moves in exchange for Ice type and Fairy type moves

- Stats will most likely stay the same

Meowth:

- Adds more Dark type moves to its movepool

- Stats will probably stay the same

Exeggutor:

- Loses most of its psychic moves in exchange for dragon moves

- Stats will probably change from Sp Atk to Atk

Marowak:

- Lose most rock and ground moves in favor of fire and ghost moves

- Stats will probably change to make it faster and more focused on Sp Atk

Breeding in OR is retarded easy. You must be fucking something up. You realize you can lock the nature down with an Everstone right? Breeding in ORAS you should have an Everstone and a Destiny Knot at all times.

The Visual Issue with Gen 6 is the awful animation (the worst ones are pokemon that fly) and the odd choice to give them an ugly color filter. As much as hate GO, their models actually look pretty nice and they have somewhat vivid interaction. I am sure that they use the same models as Gen 6.

My team used to be Bisharp, Goodra, Clawitzer, Serperior, Gastrodon, and Garchomp, now the only two that remain are (surprise surprise) Bisharp and Garchomp, with Garchomp using a different set.

Yeah, if I recall correctly from a weird little glitch I saw when transferring from battle to overworld with the 3D on they just put the 3d player model overtop of all the other stuff in the game for some reason, which explains why the overworld looked like ass. At the least Sun and Moon might be fixing that sort of thing.

As for inverse battles, not only go I agree with you, but we need something like Inverse Room. Or Pokemon with an ability that sets up Trick Room upon entering the field. There's a lot of cool stuff they could be doing. At the least we'll be able to set up PGL tournaments with inverse battle rules in Sun and Moon probably.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see something like Mega Charizard S and Mega Charizard M.

The only problem with Sun and Moon's tournaments is that they'll be run through the Global Link, which means right before Gen 8 comes out they'll shut it down to make room for Gen 8's Global Link. Maybe the fans will be able to cobble something together, but I have my doubts. At least Nintendo might keep up the 3DS/Wii U WiFi until late in the NX's life. We don't know what they'll do for sure since last time their server company was bought out by a mobile gaming company, proving mobile gaming ruins everything.

I always thought Super was as bad as Gates. No really, you spend half the game in a school to force you through an needlessly dragged out tutorial that does nothing to really prepare you for the increased difficulty in the game. Then you finally get to fuck off to another town where you do a repeat of the Guild from Explorers briefly then it immediately goes to repeat the end plot of Gates with the Not-Pokemon entity that feed on bad feelings or some shit. Planning a team to play on my 3DS, testing on Showdown's OU.

Ice/fairy is a bit better defensively than you might think at first and almost good offensively by themselves. While neither type can hit fire or steel, a 3rd type can add a ton of coverage. Assuming the movesets for variants are just replacing moves old old types with new ones plsu maybe 1 or 2 new moves, it's save to assume that ninetales would have access to grass and dark for coverage. Grass won't do jack shit to help but dark would give almost perfect coverage, being resisted by only steel/fairy and possibly vanilla ninetales if it also gains the fairy typing. Ghost would be even better with only pyroar resiting. While it's unlikely to the point of being essentially impossible, earth power would hit a lot more for super effective and being resisted only by shedinja. Since there is an implication that base stats will be changed for the variant forms, there's the possibility of ninetales becoming actually useful outside of a weather set up.
Please gamefreak, do not default to making yet another purely defensive ice type. Please consider a glass cannon stat spread for once. Do not fuck this up and fail me yet again.

Ice/fairy is weak to fire, rock, poison and 2x steel and among those only the first 2 matter. It resists bug, dark, ice and is immune to dragon, but those aren't terribly common except for dragon but it's enough to say it's decent overall. With a heavy investment in defensive stats at the cost of offense, it would actually be somewhat possible to use all the support moves ninetales gets for whatever reason along with the new shit that will come with being part fairy. Even with only 60 sp att, a cm set with draining kiss might be a thing so long as scizor isn't in the same tier.

Ok fine, calling it as bad as Gates might be excessive but it's not as good as Rescue Team. And Gates didn't waste half the game forcing you through an over extended tutorial (I think it just assumed you already played all the previous titles so they only bothered to talk about the few new mechanics they introduced) and put you through a story that feels like a mix of some school-based, slice of life, shounen adventure anime before dropping all that because we need to have more feels moments. The part where they imply the Umbreon and Espeon from Gates are a couple despite being siblings was pretty funny and I'm surprised there's no art of it. In fact Gates (even when it had been out in Japan and had yet to release everywhere else) has more fan art than Super.

Megabeedrill isn't all that good even after all that effort to try and make it useful. It's not like Tyranitar where you can just slap extra stat points on wherever and have it be good. 95/105 offenses aren't great but they're actually way higher than that when you factor in stab on everything because dumb ability. It's kind of sad since there are some good ideas out there. Using Reborn as an example since I'm playing through it right now. The battle terrain has siginifcant effects on how moves and in some case, pokemon function. For example, let's take Flame Burst. Let's say there's a battle in the Forest Terrain.I won't go into details, but the big things are that bug/Grass moves deal 1.5x damage and Growth has it's stat boosting increase by one stage. Infestiation also begins dealing 1/6th of max HP in damage and Struggle Bug now hits both opponents in a double battle. Back to Flame Burst now; if you fire it off the field reacts to it and changes to the Burning field if there's no rain and the move gets a 1.3x damage boost. Now in this new field all pokemon that aren't fire type, leviating, or flying take fire damage every turn depending on their type. Certain abilities will amplify the damage taken or nullify it. Grass and Ice moves become pathetic at a 0.5x multiplier while fire pokemon on the ground enjoy 1.5x boost to their fire moves. A smart opponent would use something like surf, water pledge, or gust to nullify the field to a neutral terrain or use Rain Dance or Sand Storm. Though the issue I'm finding with how Reborn handles it is that there are just too few moves to change or create terrain effects on your own; especially when the game has 30-something terrain types ready for exploit.

megas were a mistake, it was a nice idea at first but then it dive down to broken "no fun allowed" kind of broken and give boost only to popular pokemon that were already powerful (with minor exceptions) and even useless pokemon like audino were given the boost and still they were useless.

I liked SMD but there's all these quirks and annoyances. Like being forced to use only my character for plot missions when you can switch freely during jobs.
I mean what's even the point of that. You make a party based roguelike game and then take away control of 2/3rds of your party, but not all the time. So instead of just switching over the three characters at the start of a floor and use their buffing moves, I have to walk up to an enemy, set an alliance with the other two using their buffing moves, use the alliance and risk them or me getting hit because they teleport behind the enemy and there might be another enemy coming up beyond the 4 square sight radius, you know we have to zoom in a lot to look at all these reused pokemon models.
I would be fine with the connection system if I could go and take the missions for the monsters I want instead of hoping they put up a job or finding them in dungeons. There's also the balance issue of being able to recruit overleveled mons stupidly early.
And if they shortened the fucking animation, it takes like 15 seconds to get back into the game. More if he decides to introduce you to this NFE fuckbuddies you will use never.

At least the music was good and the plot was more elaborate and less predictable than most pokemon games.

Alright, my current record in the Emerald Battle Tower's Level 50 room is 42, the highest I've gotten so far. I've gotten mixed messages about which rounds I need to bring the Pokemon I want to put all the ribbons on into. One source says this coming round and has a ribbon master to back it up, others say after and provide no real proof but how can so many people be wrong (aside from copying what others say). I'd like your input, if possible.

Upon further research, it seems like I will have to reach a streak of 56 to get a ribbon. And even if that's not true, it seems every further round also gives a ribbon, so I'll probably be fine. Watch me fail before I even get there because of Skarmory or something.

From starting my Game Boy for the first in a long time and seeing what I was playing with I think I liked Raichu and Abra/Kadabra the best. From the starters I liked Charmander's design the most. That is about it.
