Don't get me wrong, Bethesda isn't going to take the criticism to hear and mend their ways. They just know that their core audience doesn't really give much of a fuck about the lore, so it's of little consequence if Obsidian patches their fuckups for the more dedicated fans. Personally I thought the perk system works better for Skyrim than the stats system, Bethesda just designed bad perks for half the tree, but they should have kept attributes and class building (which is why I added them back in with Disparity and Worlds Dawn).

Bethesda doesn't suck. Skyrim was a great fucking game, its narrative about Vikings was awesome, and very nationalistic. It was about healthy race pride.

I think there may have been a possibility of this happening and being interesting before Interplay died. But if you think about it you'll see why.

I think Interplay maybe could have created an interesting Fallout game with none of those elements, but Bethesda doesn't have the talent or the inclination to bother creating almost an entire new setting. Basically the only things they could use again would be things that are US military related like Power Armor.

Well, Mr. Fisherman, I did eventually do that after getting bored of the rest of the game, and it's fun for a while, but it's really not implemented well. And the mods don't fix any of that, they just add more shit to play house with.

The problem is settlers are fucking useless. They have no personality, no wants or dislikes beyond the 4-5 things every settler requires, they are 100% interchangable, each can fill every job as well as every other settler. They all read off the same 30 or so canned lines constantly. There's no settler happiness, only settlement happiness. They're really shit pets. All they do is go from the bed you assigned them, to the job you assigned them, then maybe to the bar at a certain hour, then back to bed. IIRC they don't even talk to each other.

They aren't even good at providing defense. One settler assigned to three watchtowers gives 6 defense. One big turret provides 8. Any big settlement is going to take an assload of defense, so it's almost a guarantee you'll resort to spamming turrets instead of having a guard force.

For it to be an engaging system, the settlers really should have at least some basic attributes which would govern which jobs you'd assign them to, and then you'd kit them out to be better at their job. You'd give guards armor and weapons and such to increase their defense rating. Some combat armor'd motherfucker with a giant gun should give more defense than some basic bitch pipe pistol settler in flannels. A farmer might want, I dunno, some farming tools around to increase production.

They ought to at least pretend to be a bit more human. Maybe go get a cup of water, shoot the shit with another settler, do something in their house besides sleep. It's just so disheartening how pointless it starts to feel. Cocksuckers can't even defend themselves without you showing up, even if they'd slaughter any conceivable amount of enemies the second you get them in draw distance.

Bland as fuck lore that could of been copied out of some chinese bootleg of 3.5E DnD, bland as fuck characters with the exception of one - Durance, who was written by Avellone but got gutted to hell and back because Sawyer and his possie were a bunch of thin-skinned cunts - and the most retarded as fuck level design in the world. Fucking Drakes and Dragons outside of the main city, a lighthouse containing two dozen teleporting ghosts - the whole fucking teleportation thing at that which utterly destroys party formation and over half of the games fights make use of it - along with a myriad of other issues.

Sawyer being a SJW isn't the issue, the Issue is that he is a fucking hack that can't do anything right and only got more and more control over Obsidian to the point Avellone left in utter disgust at his work getting butchered.

This. It annoyed me how they took the default character interactions from skyrim and oblivion and replaced them with literally nothing.. The interaction between NPCs was nowhere near perfect, but at least it seldom made it seem like they had nothing to even discuss. The settlers are even more robotic than the Mr Handy's in this game.

I guard my shekels jealously, and don't buy any software full price. I don't personally feel any reason to keep up with the very latest, buying three months down the line at least usually means you'll get a game patched into a semi-working state.

You might miss some good times with multiplayer doing that, but you'll also avoid some shittiness too. Take Evolve. If you didn't buy day 1, you'd have more or less missed the entire game up until it rebooted, because the playerbase dropped off a fucking cliff after launch.

But if you waited three months, you'd see that the game was DoA and not wasted a dime.

It was, from what I've heard, decent-ish, but it had some serious balance issues, and pacing issues. Most of the game was spent playing hide and go seek, culminating in a big battle that would resolve in a very one-sided way depending on how the hide and go seek went. So it was in the interest of the hiding-and-going-sought player to make the game as boring as he could.

The primary game type was a team of four balanced against one player who would build up over time to be as strong or stronger than the four players combined. Naturally, this balance does not work so well with pubs.

Aside from those fundamental issues the biggest problem was just how absolutely fucking Semitic the devs were with their DLC whoring. By god were they blatant.

The only possibly good thing that could come out of this would be a faction based around drugged wastelanders who believe in Witchcraft/Creole/Palo/whatever, then you could have raiders wearing armor made out of crude materials like bones and hides from irradiated animals adorned with human body parts`n shit. Then you could have a quest involving this faction where they drug you and you end up going trough a drug fueled nightmare involving strange creatures some light platforming and puzzle solving all with trippy voodoo shit.
Also a quest line involving the Louisiana Axe man where you have to do some detective work and find the culprit which could end in some spooky way.
I mean its just wishful thinking and the game would probably use a modified version of fallout 4`s shitty source code,but a Fallout in New Orleans could be a pretty cool thing its just too bad it will never be done with the amount of care and love that New Vegas had. I think if this becomes a thing we`re gonna end up with a lot of focus on racial conflict between blacks and whites and a very VERY preachy story Instead of focusing on the shit that makes a New Orleans setting actually interesting.

Yeah having quests that aren`t straight up go to X place and waste every motherfucker in there would be great. A lot of good quest design comes from having something actually interesting to do and see and not just "hey you killed this guy good job here have some loot". The quest itself and the cool experience you had should be a part of the reward, and New Orleans as a setting has the potential to provide these small but interesting moments.

But like I said this is never gonna happen instead we`ll get a lot of SJW pandering,Trans characters everywhere a setting based on race and FO4`s unoptimized engine.

It just means they don't want someone else releasing something with that title; it doesn't mean they're going to release something with that title, ever, and it CERTAINLY doesn't mean its release is imminent.
