The game itself doesn't have to be good by any means.

The thing about it, is that the author or author accidentally created a character who was completely right and justified in a game where everything is fucking legitimate insane.

Not talking about "lol randumb" insane, but a game where transgender bullshit is the norm, mental illness is so prevalent that it's no longer an illness at that scale.

In it, someone hits every single point that is wrong with the entire journey, it's characters and the story, and the author decides she is wrong and warps her using Mary Sue powers to change her into a fucking emotional doormat, same as the fucked in the head protagonist, when originally she didn't take shit from ANYONE, was the closest thing to an actual strong independent woman and all that, and this is considered a good development by the author.

This total ass, who should be respecting Teagan for being the outlier, the one who dares to be different, like they fucking idolize in their special snowflake habitat, demonizes and warps a character for stepping out of line because she told hard truths, being the only one who was willing to tell them.

This entire damned game is a character study of the warped mind of social justice warriors. And it was produced unironically, from the mouth of the beast itself. It was a fucking community effort. This game is representitive of who they are.

No, really.

I want you to forget about all the 2deep4u fanwank, SJW projection, jacking off to goats, and all the other bullshit and just focus on the game itself because it really is a legitimately thought provoking look at how we tell stories, and how death is treated in those stories. It's also an interesting look at player agency and whether morality really matters in games.

(spoilers ahead)

As an example, I think that it's pretty clear that Toby made every attempt to make the Genocide route as unfun as he possibly could. Pacifying monsters is much, much more fun than fighting them, all the boss fights except two are one-shot stomps, and a lot of the charming characters and interesting dialog fucks off and avoids you if you're going kill crazy. The only real reasons you'd play the Genocide route is either for a chance to fight Sans or because you just have to see what happens when you murder everyone. So just how far are you willing to go to sate your curiosity?

You have to ask yourself at some point: why are you playing this game? Are you getting some kind of pleasure out of killing? Or do you just not care, and you just want to see what happens? As Your Best Friend is fond of saying, don't you have anything better to do?

There's also the whole acknowledgement of save scumming and resets. Does killing someone even matter if you can just undo it? How much does it really matter how we treat fictional characters? The way you act in video games is very different than the way you act in real life; how much does one effect the other (hopefully not at all, as an aside)? The characters in games are trapped only being able to do what their programmer could program into them, so perhaps they don't matter. But really, the way we act is determined by the personalities that our experiences have programmed into us; what makes us so much better?

Oh, and I also love the fact that the game is exactly as edgy as you are. If you go out of your way to kill no one, you save the world with the power of friendship. If you go around breaking stuff (and people), prepare for your well-deserved nihilistic end.

I choose to interpret that DS2 was intentionally forgettable and they straight up tell you right in the beginning of the game. The devs didn't want to work on it instead of Bloodborne, so they rushed it and made the theme of the game actually about forgettableness. You start out and your job is to end the curse of the undead and that you'd end up in Drangleic "without really knowing why". Your goal to end the curse of the undead stops the second you talk to the Emerald Herald who mentions nothing about it and just tells you to go do some shit so you do it because it's a fucking videogame and after that point 99% of players will have forgotten that they were supposed to be doing something about the curse. I didn't realize this until I replayed it a third time and decided to watch the opening cutscene again which was actually more confusing than it was the first time around since I expected it to actually make sense and tie into everything that happened later in the game.

None of this is to say that the game was any good like how MGS2 was intentionally bad for its own good, this was just fromsoft being lazy and cheeky.

Because Holla Forums hates anything that isn't a niche, hard-core, top end graphical wonderland with a MIND BENDING story and gameplay so action packed there's an explosion around every turn all in a game without AAA marketing or any following on tumblr.

Not as an overall game but there where plenty of smaller parts to it that made me think.

The best example would be sakubo, for those who don't know it's a kid that created another personality (that of his stillborn sister) to keep himself from solitude (severe anxiety) Throughout the series you see both personalities develop, however at the end you can convince him to keep the personality or get rid of it after he becomes aware of the truth.
Could never really decide which was best for him and whether or not destroying the other personality counted as murder.

Other things in the series included dependence issues and the justifications for manipulation (if it makes them happier and such) Rather funnily reaches into levels nearing nazi doctrine for some of the reasons.

Been quite a few years since i last played through the whole series but I do remember a large number thought provoking i feel sick even writing that term moments, sadly though people will never talk about that because the MC acted a little edgy at the start and people who desperately seek validation need to shit on a whole series for such things.

You're acting as if Undertale is the only one to receive such treatment. Not Gone Home, Dear Esther, Depression Quest, or Read Only Memories. The Game's good, and the anime edge fucker is justified because its a character created by an edgy teenager who grows up over the course of the game, and his character reflects that change.

He starts out as a belt wearing prick, gains friends and acts tsundere and becomes an armored warrior, relapses and becomes the ultimate edgelord in appearance, yet emotionally grows in the late stages of that game (as he's grown into a better, but still kinda edgy version of what he was, thus high level edgelord armor), eventually adopting a form that is the color opposite of what his original form was, as he finally becomes a good person who loses much of his emotional awkwardness and selfishness.

It's a good series of games.
