I have a question

How do you make a videogame inspired by some obscure culture in the world without being labeled as a SJW?

AVATARFAGS LEAVE

don't put trannies, homos or minorities in it

You're trying way too hard to fit in kid.

You don't

Not sure if obscure enough, but Princess Trainer features Arabian Culture and never got called SJW

So, you're saying people should stick to one culture or create one? I agree about the trannies though

By not glorifying it and generally portraying them exactly as they are warts and all.

You promote national socialism.

Honestly, you can do whatever the fuck you want. just think about the message you're trying to send. What makes something SJW isn't the presence of brown people, homos/trannies, or even pink-haired feminist dykes themselves. What makes it SJW is their portrayal of these types of people.

Sure there are will always be some retard who throws a shitfit over there being a single non-white person in the game, but you can't please everyone, nor should you try to.

/thread

I'm pretty sure no one will accuse you of being an SJW simply for basing the game on an obscure culture.

Typically the only reason people bitch about game based on obscure cultures is that they tend to be shitty art-games (i.e walking sims) because the person who made it clearly cared more about the setting than a gameplay.

As long as there's an actual game to be played (it helps if you're making the game for the gameplay and the setting was just a bonus) then I doubt Holla Forums will bitch about it.

Dont make the characters state how different they are at every chance they have and it'll be fine
Try to make everything as normal as possible within whatever you make

Basically this.
Also if you're making it to show how progressive you are, instead of because you're actually interested in the culture, then you're doing it wrong. I'd love to see more cultures represented in games, but just as a chance to throw a black/trans/whatever character in your game. It's all in the intent. Make a game about Egyptian mythology because you think it's cool, not because it has brown people in it and that makes it "diverse", "brave" and "progressive". I mean, take a look at Shantae: it's full of dark skinned characters and Arabian cultural iconography, but it doesn't make a big deal about it. It's just a setting and no one is offended by it as a result.
Also, actually making it a game with gameplay helps a lot. Don't be a pretentious cunt and make a walking sim.

But NOT, I mean.

less cultural relativism

just do it, the only people bitching will be screencap-bait faggots anyway

Make a good game. Make the incorporation of the culture fun and entertaining rather than a message or lesson about something stupid.

A RTS or city building game entirely about fantasy African tribes for example would be much better than a walking simulator or emotionally-driven slideshow.

Even a porno game about the Mongolians would do more respect than a game that is nohing more than the developers' metaphorical dicksucking of said Mongolians because they have a cultural fetish for anything that isn't first world.

By recognizing that culture is a spook and you have the free will to do whatever you want with it and let everyone else get salty over it

By making a video game, and a fun one at that. For as much as people will shitpost about it, all that people will remember is whether or not it was fun to play.

Have some subtlety and tact when making a commentary on issues. This fucking kills games for me. No Marvel, directly breaking the third wall and mentioning gamergate isn't quality writing. I remember I was talking to a friend who played DA:I and he told me he loved how subtle the game was about telling the player Sera is gay. IIRC it was a line of dialogue like "We're similar, you and me, because we both like girl." That's not fucking subtle. Unlike some of the people on here I don't give a shit about trannies or gays or blacks, but holy fucking shit, learn to fucking write people like people and address issues thoughtfully. Shit isn't black in white.

Also, if you put memes in your game, kill yourself

By not being a sanctimonious faggot about it and selling your game on it's gameplay instead of how diverse it is.

Is this a meme?

shoooot op now

I'll say what this guy said, but in a different take. It's NOT right to do whatever the hell you want and let everyone else get mad over it, because that's how all the redditors on halfchan (among other demographics who feel they're excused from common sense) exist.

Outta my forest, kiddo.

All these.

Make a good game. Everybody knows SJWs can't make good games.

If you are going to have SJW themes (faggotry, multiculturalism ect.) develop the characters and don't make being a faggot or a nigger their defining trait.
It's one thing to be talking with a character and after awhile it comes up that they are gay, it's another entirely for them to introduce themselves as "big gay al" and be some kind of annoying super faggot.

On the topic of super faggots, has any game done that type of character well enough to be a likeable character?

FO:NV had a couple of fags that were ok.

Choice words for such a bold statement.

Just make a good game and the rest will follow

The Ballad of Gay Tony was rather nice in this regard.

You make a good game. Remember the Prince of Persia games? They were good games. Except the last one which ruined the princess with feminism.

You do whatever the fuck you want without being preachy and holding muh minorities on a pedestal.
You'll be golden.

Make it accurate. Don't try and play the culture up to be some paragon of humanity when you actually know that, despite their oneness with nature and love of all living things, they sacrifice every third born to the god Chakuchaku for good rains.

I might be stretching it a bit, but these guys were pretty good. They fit inside the insanity of what is the game's world, they're pretty memorable and holy fuck they can kick your ass if you underestimate them.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a single gay male character in Japanese media that wasn't just a walking punchline (not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Yaoishit fujoshibait doesn't count

One of the very few, I admit.

Just do it? I'm not sure how doing such a game even labels you an SJW.

If you're making a game about ancient Egypt and you want to prove you aren't an SJW all you have to do is make them look like actual Egyptians and not niggers.

Make your game with your inspiration. Just don't be overt about it and wave it in front of everyone's faces in an attempt for even normalfags to catch onto it chances are they won't unless you straight out tell them word for word in game

You have to remember we're on polchan. If you put a nigger or gay person in your game it's instantly shitty 0/10 SJW bait. If you try to present a non-white culture as good is also 0/10 SJW bait.

Not that massive of a faggot but gets bonus points for fighting with stick and balls.

You mean like surfer culture or hacker culture?

by not rubbing your own junk over everyone for the fact you used another culture for a setting. its that simple. if you like the setting, use it, if anyone asks why, say "i thought it was cool"

Just do it, and stop being so self conscious about what others might think of you.
