Let's talk WipEout

Right now on the WipeoutZone forums there is work being done on an open source engine for Wipeout 3 Special Edition that's going to support all those neato PC gaming stuff like 60 fps and 1080p support called WXX-Rebirth. No having to emulate. There are also plans to integrate Wipeout 1 and 2097\XL as well once Wipeout 3 SE is over with. See here: wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?10159-WXX-Rebirth-a-modern-engine-for-Wipeout-3-Special-Edition-! There are also videos embeded on the posts showing the engine in progress.

So…..
>favorite team And why is it Auricom?

I cant view the screens without a forum account.

Yeah, that sucks. :(

Just play BallisticsNG

Franchise/lore wide AG-SYS is my favorite, but it's not necessary my most used.

AG-SYS.
I don't remember, possibly Qirex.
Assegai, I could never get a handle on the Icaras. 3/3SE made you use all the ships pretty much equally anyway.
Never played it.
Fuck this game.
Qirex
AG-SYS
FEISAR

Also classic games > barrel roll/sideshift games all day every day.

Don't use emoticons/emoji. It makes you look like a retarded 12 year old from Reddit.

Normally I'd just yell at you and filter, but I like Wipeout a lot so I'm being gentle this time.

So it's just the original game assets ripped off the disk and dropped into Unity? That's actually pretty disappointing. I was hoping this would be a source port of some kind. Emulators could probably do a better job right now I would think.

Ohhhh, I get it. You're autistic.

And your post doesn't make you look like a retard?

How playable is it? Is the handling and everything accurate?

...

What are you on about, OP? Also,
Blergh. They could have gone with UE4.

You can't emulate PS1 games with uncapped framerates.

No idea, I'm not OP I just posted the pics for the thread because I have a WZ account. I know the project is inextricably linked with several others on the site and they have a very good idea of how the physics work, they've really torn apart the Wipeout games to get at the code. I think the BallisticNG guy has some involvement in the project as well and he got the physics down pretty well.

Show me your videogame nodev.

Also:
F-Zero fans can't make a single fangame and Wipeout has two playable fangames and one remaster in progress.

I think I was a little to quick on the description. It is not open source, but for some reason that is what it says on the WipeoutZone post.

Very well. shiny-rice.itch.io/distantbreakoff

The only thing that could be open would be the game's code, not the engine code nor assets ripped from the game. I'll look into this further it sounds interesting.

Will it feature custom soundtrack support? For reason I love racing games (or any game with driving) that allow for integrating your own music in the game.

Awww don't be mad ;)

Should have used a real engine like Unity.
Engine circlejerk. Do you understand it.

This isn't a game, it's not even a proof of concept. I've seen you in /agdg/ threads, you've been working on this for over a year and have no clear plan and have worked solely on some shitty /k/ porn, nothing in the description on your site matches the work you've actually done, none of it.

The horrible unity (ugh unity, use a real engine like us nodevs) game is already on steam, despite being in dev for roughly the same amount of time that you have:
store.steampowered.com/app/473770/

If you actually wanted to make a game you wouldn't be in here pretending you know shit about engine dev and would actually be working on the game. Or maybe it's just easier to sit in /agdg/ and talk about how language A is better than language B.

You might be able to string along the technologically retarded, aesthetic obsessed retards of /cyber/, but if I had a million dollars I would bet every penny that you'll never release your game in your lifetime. Fuck, by the time you've finished modelling all the guns they'll be low poly.

Haven't had time to do proper materials. Only my knife got maps done for it recently.

Giving them 5% of your net revenue if you're making more than $3k per quarter? Not making "offensive games" even though Hatred still got made? What's your point?

I do. I also understand that UE4 is clearly superior in several ways.

Right. Except for the fact that it's literally in my page available for download, and you'll see that it's actually a game. Nothing you say will change it.

Most basic gameplay mechanics are implemented. Maps aren't really fleshed out because, again, I'm one guy. I have to take care of programming. Aside from that, it's not even in alpha.

The fact that I don't reveal my plans doesn't mean I don't have them.

They probably have more than one guy working on that. I'm on my own here.

You know, I actually have had doubts about finishing this game, and I've thought often about abandoning it. I've spent afternoons massively bored because I was doing absolutely menial shit to get this game working properly. Seeing you so absolutely booty bothered only makes me want to finish this just to spite you.

I've worked with Unity and Unreal both. Unreal is far easier to work with, actually has a framework for most uses, and it looks better than Unity without having to do shader fuckery, among other things. If I talk shit about Unity, it's because I have my reasons. I've been working on my game all day long, so I thought I deserve a break and came to shitpost to calm my nerves.

Diminishing returns, lad. By the way, where's your game, fam? :^)

Sage for off-topic.

Ok OP, it does seem like they are doing some strange stuff here. To avoid C&D, they somehow are making a game in Unity with all of the code there, but the user has to extract all of the Wipeout 3 assets from legitimate copies. They also seem to be calling it an engine quite often, so it's kind of unclear. Still, in most videos, you can see the Unity interface popping up occasionally.

anyone have a working download? the one one from the page linked in op is broken

As of right now I don't think its worth it. It is still a work in progress and that includes implementation of the physics, ships, and tracks.

As someone who has never played a WipEout game before, which one should I start with? Are there any games to outright avoid?
