Youtube Clone using IPFS
IPFS now has a Javascript library we can use. Storage and all that shit is obviously a problem, but my hope is that kind folk (especially those who are impacted by this) will help out here by running an IPFS server with a terabyte or so of storage. Popular or trending videos will be hosted by those actually watching it in a P2P fashion via IPFS-JS, so I don't think most popular videos will present too much of an issue.
But the issue is with a database. A single entity maintaining a database of users/videos is problematic (censorship, data-mining and all that). So, I would advise we take a GNUSocial-like approach here and sort users by domain (host). Another node (e.g. ipfstube.io) can then REST query the hosting node to retrieve that user's videos/data.
Searching is still a problem. My recommendation would be that we have a list of "trusted nodes" to search for Videos that then get REST queried. Disclaimer: I haven't actually used GNUSocial, so am unsure as to how it handles this. We might actually be able to leverage that platform completely for this instead of reinventing the wheel.

The one in the repos is usually the most stable, which sometimes means older but not usually. For example, the version of wireshark in the debian repos is still in 1.x but its much more stable than the newest version and offers the same functionality.

I have a small youtube channel and I'm having way enough of their fuckery: they deleted some of my comments under my own videos (no warning, no notification, either as a channel owner or the person posting the comment), shadow banned several of my followers, stopped notifying me when people comment on older videos, I've also noticed the decrease in comments on some channels I follow (some of their videos are no longer available to me), some videos I was able to find before are getting harder and harder to retrieve. The worst about this? I'm not even a political channel, I post and comment nothing controversial. Hearing what happened with Jordan Peterson (his e-mail got terminated before he bitched loudly enough), I'm planning to rent a server and get another mail address and ditch Google products entirely. I will certainly upload a video to explain followers how it affects everyone, and not those "terrible people". I'll have to look up for alternatives though.

You can't get away from the poz on YouTube, it's baked into their algorithm no matter what you watch. I mainly use it for hobbyist information like diy stuff and aquarium video. I casually watch this one fishkeeping channel run by a middle-aged "punk" chick, and the other day she was wearing some virtue signaling "no hate" t-shirt (really playing that shit up, too, facing the camera more than usual so everyone could get a good look at how noble she is or whatever). I noticed after that a bunch off prog warrior agenda shit was starting to trickle into my recommended videos. More than the usual amount. Like they knew. Even people I know who are politically apathetic mention this type of thing to me on occasion. YouTube is 100% agenda programming all the time, and they aren't going to allow you to avoid it.
