"Cinematic" 3rd person shooter with live action cutscenes like it wants to be a TV series from the FMV era.

Its a relic already, but more in the sense that it was at a time when the Xbone wanted to be TV GAMES SPORTS TV, and the only memo they got was "Drop the Kinect"

According to Phil Spencer, the Windows 10 ports did poorly to okay. They were clearly hoping to steal Steam's throne, but it backfired on them since no sane person likes Windows 10 and they let Valve steal their audience while they focused on appealing to console users with the 360 and Xbone.

To be fair Alan Wake was done in a very similar way to ape off Twin Peaks, and the game worked wonderfully.
So I'd at least give them the benefit of the doubt, although I haven't played this yet

From Death Rally to Max Payne, Remedy was good, no, great. While MP is not an amazing game by any feat, it was a Finnish product that could stand next to the monoliths and not be ashamed. High-level innovations especially with lighting and mapping from a small studio where they used their own workers and families as the NPC models, and even the main characters to boot, it was by all means an indie production universally.

Then came the fall. MP2 was a decent game, but a step back from MP, they fluffed like Finns usually do when they first succeed, on the second attempt they become too prideful and we all know the old adage about that.

Alan Wake was to be the redeemer for Remedy, and once again was about to introduce revolutionary daytime cycle tech as well as revolutionary lighting/mist effects - an open world mystery in the vast land of Stephen King's homearea. What could have been, my dear anons, what could have been.

Then Microsoft came in and after that it was all down the drain.

Alan Wake bombed in sales, but still managed to pull through due to the Xbox exclusive deal and Msoft money flowing in for Remedy for the exchange of less creative and production overhand in the company as a whole going forwards.

Then was the end of Max Payne, the tragical sale to Rockstar. Like with Nokia phones, sold off and the money was good for a bit, but things are once again going downhill, without the merit of owning a great video character and series copyright. A Finnishing move, foreigners call it these days.

And now with Quantum Break, again too prideful (or ashamed of their late productions?) they had to up the ante and try something new. Sadly, what they thought up was not something anyone had ever asked for and even the age of generic brown-grey TPS's is coming to a slowburning end.

Add to that the fact that Remedy also has SJWs running rampant in their company, and you bet it's a doomed one.

Hence, as said, it's end with Payne.

And I think that's absolutely hilarious in a schadenfreudic way.

They already ported the Halo smartphone games to Steam, it doesn't make sense to have it be Win10 exclusive and risk making less money. There's clearly an audience for M$ published games on Steam.

It was a shitty Windows Store app to begin with and Windows 7/8/8.1 don't support UWP crap. Honestly I doubt they even used DX12, making their games as UWP apps is more than enough lock your game for the rest platforms.

Its a shame because the mp is actually good. To this day I'm still not sure if you get Kung Fu instead of your crow bar after Max is overdosed by Valkyr or if my copy was modded.
My copy also came with a Blade Mod and a level select mod where you got shittons of weapons similar to that one scene in the matrix.

It was very common here, I had a GTA Vice City copy where pressing right mouse would spawn a super motorcycle that can fly and San Andreas where the default haircut had CJ wear a spiderman costume.
