Russia is a good example of how Governments address VPN’s. First they implement laws restricting Internet freedoms. People foolishly presume it won’t affect them as they use VPN’s. Once the Government has passed all the restrictive laws it wanted to THEN they ban VPN’s, TOR etc.

VPNs, on the other hand, have a single point of failure and are easier to compromise than Tor due to being far more centralized. I constantly hear people saying "Tor is compromised! You can't trust Tor nodes!" and then immediately say that they trust the people operating their VPN implicitly, and that they believe their VPN really doesn't keep logs just because they say they don't (even though they have to keep some logs to operate).
Never mind the fact that it's trivial to defeat a VPN. Any national law enforcement agency could do it if they have logs from your ISP.
You can't really expect good advice here at shill central. Rent a server with crypto and run your own vpn software on it, it's not rocket science. If you're really paranoid set up two and use tor to proxy your traffic between them.
