It's odd when you realize all the Goddesses are at least +50 years old. Perhaps +100. And this includes the candidates too. And then there's people like Histoire who's basically as old as age.

What I usually think is that, past a certain age, they just stop growing, both physically and mentally, and stay in that state for as long as their mandate as Goddess/Candidate/Oracle/Maker dictates it. Perhaps is it a side effect of the Share energy ?

CPU's don't grow nor age anymore. Candidates do, but it seems like they're aging slowly and only until around Nepgear's age. Makers are simply Humans and as old as they look. I'm pretty sure Compa is a young adult, and Iffy was underage in RB2 but is probably (almost?) an adult in V-II. Neptune and the other CPU's are only a few decades old maximum, most likely younger.

In V, it's implied that Neptune would grow old and eventually die unless she becomes a CPU after entering Ultradimension and losing her powers. We also watch Iffy and Compa grow from babies into young adults throughout the game, but we don't stick around to see if they age any more past that point.

I assume age and mortality in nep games is entirely dependent on the writer's interpretation.

So, sell me on the Neptunia games.
I played Re;Birth 1 and thought it was a mediocre game with a lot of really stupid systems, namely the shares and the combat's depth being almost all hidden systems. I also went and 100%'d the game and I don't see any reason to play the others as the rest of the Re;Birth's look like their just the same game system with a new story, and the story is easily the weakest part of the game.

Depends. If you want more Re;Birth, then go right ahead. Make sure you use the retranslation patch of course. It's a bit of a long one though.

I don't really feel like climbing the tower in Nep U, but I can always play Shinovi Versus lol

Yeah, the main reason I played VII first is because I was waiting for the patch.

R;B2 is pretty much the same as R;B1 except it's four member party and there's some harder combats the first run-through. The end game's pretty damn easy though.

R;B3 has a similar combat style but the EXE and SP gauges are merged so you can't spam shit as easily anymore. Also you have to do in-game training/achievement hunting to unlock single EXEs.

VII has formation attacks and in general a bit more depth combat wise over R;B3, since they actually had a budget this time. But it's full priced so that's also something to consider at the moment too.

As far as the story, what can I say. If you don't like the characters, that's a pretty big reason to step away from the series they they are the superglue. R;B2 and VII have overall a somewhat darker story than R;B1, while R;B3 is a bit more lighthearted still. R;B2 in particular has one particularly notorious ending.

We tried to get it out ASAP; still have a bit to go in some areas too, but in general it'll be a bit more enjoyable now

A lot of us here play for the characters and the simple JRPG gameplay.

Some of us here enjoy the gameplay, most enjoy the characters.

If you didn't enjoy either of them, I applaud you still for getting 100% on Re;birth1.

I can't really fault you for thinking the Re;Birth games are samey, all three rebirth games share the same assets from Re;Birth 3/Victory because "budget."

The lackluster battle system doesn't improve much until you get to V-II and even still its just your typical JRPG with VN elements.

You are pretty much here for the girls, personified representatives of consoles across the gaming industry, which have surprising depth to them if you can read between the lines. If you aren't here for the Neps or lore then the Neptunia games really aren't for you.

Don't take it the wrong way, the girls are not as trope heavy and one dimensional as they first seem and we have a blast in these threads taking apart how they act and fit into the lore.

Nep U was pretty standard fare but at least it had charm and I forgot about titty ninjas. And Blanc and IF v Sega coming to PC are the only reasons I'm alive right now.

That is the strong suit of the series. On the surface its mainly immortal teenage console girls making bad personal life decisions while saving the world, but if you read between the lines you can see some interesting background stuff.

And overall I can't really complain much about CH's commentary regarding the game industry over the course of the series.

Back from today's good action, which paid off.

Also, Nepgear had a solution to Conquest. Noire went all suicidal and refused to listen to it.

I got lots of the games back, the only exceptions being the Neptrilogy and some GBA Pokemon games, but none of the consoles. I ended up buying a PS3 again, after having some solid deal from my local shop, and they gave me a good cut on the price, making the PS3 only 50 € in the end, instead of the 100-150 it usually is.

Gear's solution was a stupid plan to steal literally all the shares from the other nations, which would either destroy them or assimilate them into Planeptune. In addition to that, it probably wouldn't even work as they all couldn't even beat Arfoire before with the total amount of shares they had.

The solution was Gehaburn (or so they thought) and Gear said she didn't want to use it but took it with her anyway when she went to steal shares. Noire fought to save her nation and lost, so she realized the only way to save her people was to go with Gear's plan and surrender her nation, but because that wouldn't be enough she forced Gear to use Gehaburn on her (Gear didn't stop her, probably because she knew her plan was stupid and knew Gehaburn had to be used anyway, which is why she took it with her).

It was Conquestgear who caused conquest with her Gehaburn. The difference between conquest and the holy sword ending is Gear, who refuses to use Gehaburn and shatters it instead of using it.

Noire forced her to use Gehaburn against her will. That's the whole point. Yeah, she brought Gehaburn with her, but I mean, ASIC had already infiltrated the Basilicom once. So why would they keep the most powerful weapon there that could destroy all of the CPUs?

Nepgear never wanted to use the sword. It was only after Noire stabbed herself that Gear felt that she had no choice but to use it. Not to mention every other Nep was telling her she had to use it after that, too.

It wasn't against her will. If it was against her will she would have refused at that very moment Noire wanted her to use it and they would have gone down the holy sword route. The other Neps tell her to use it because they knew the only way for her "all shares to one person" plan to work was for that person to wear Gehaburn. Conquest was already happening from the moment Conquestgear found Gehaburn. Once Gear had stolen their shares the only solution to the CPU's was to feed Gehaburn to save the world, and they all knew it.

Like Noire says, they will lose if someone doesn't wield Gehaburn with the plan that Gear already set in motion. The other CPU's came to that conclusion as well. Sure Conquestgear says she doesn't want this, but the difference is that the Gear from the holy sword route really doesn't want this, and stops Noire right there. Here she doesn't do anything. Don't tell me she thought her plan was going to work without Gehaburn when everyone knew it wasn't. Everyone knew that it had to be used. Even Neptune wanted to give Gehaburn that extra power to secure victory when they already had control over all the shares.

Satan, she's clearly struggling in the video. She's doing something. The difference between the endings is that the power of Yuri is making Noire subconsciously hold back in the holy sword ending, allowing Nepgear to successfully prevent Noire from stabbing herself.

Because they couldn't risk all those deaths for nothing. Gear was fighting Noire the entire time until Noire impales herself. She actively tries to stop her until that point. Besides, Gehaburn is like the One Ring, it makes people think it can give them power when it doesn't. Everyone else probably was being influence by Gehaburn into using it instead of pooling their shares together, which is what Nepgear wanted. And what the Holy Sword Ending kind of did.

That analogy doesn't hold up, because it is actually a pretty powerful sword once powered up. It just makes people want to use it, and frankly I'm not entirely unsympathetic to that. I mean what's the point of being a sword if you don't get to be plunged into warm, fleshy bodies to bathe in blood?

Also Nepgear's original plan wouldn't work anyways. The share blade ending involves reforging Gehaburn with a fuck ton of shares into a holy sword. Just putting all the shares into one goddess would've done jack shit, because thy already did that and it didn't work.

But Noire is the same in both routes. The difference is Gear, who doesn't want this to happen in the holy sword route and immediately smashes Gehaburn. Gear is the only variable that changes between holy sword and conquest. It's Conquestgear that's the cause of conquest. Conquestgear struggles but knows it has to happen anyways and decides to let it happen, because the holy sword ending is proof that she can also decide to not let it happen.

Except the One Ring is also really powerful with people that can use it. Admittedly that's very few people.

You know what makes me sad?

How this series has so many and many and many characters and yet they are pretty much only used on the game they are introduced and then forgotten forever.

They pretty much are characters of the day.

Next mainline game, or even 4G, should try to do something with all those forgotten characters.

In 4G something like making them all NPC teaching you skills or having side-quests involving them would be amazing. Would be nice if you could have them in your party too instead of just the goddesses.

Sometimes I surprise myself with how much I know, but at other times I'm completely clueless.

Well, learning grammar isn't too hard actually. I say that, but I've forgotten quite a bit of the rules since 2 years ago, but it makes a lot of sense most of the time.
Kanji is the only difficulty I really have. That said, you can learn kanji fast if you practice every day (obvious advice, I know).
A few of my friends who are better at it than me used a study book called Heisig's Remembering the Kanji. I'd suggest checking it out. If I recall, there's a pdf of his first book online somewhere.

I'm using that with an Anki deck, and it works pretty well for me. I know about 400 after 2-3 weeks. Of course I can't actually use them for anything as of now, and I have to collect my willpower to sit down and study grammar properly.

Yeah I probably knew about 700 kanji two years ago. Now I'm maybe down to half of that. I might check /a/. I usually only stay on Holla Forums, but I really do need to get back into kanji at least.

I recommend learning grammar along with everything, which is how my old school used to do it. You learn a couple of rules with the language that way as well, sometimes which influence kanji.
For example, you sometimes see how Japanese is used grammatically and then you just notice some patterns. Usually kanji that are by themselves are pronounced one way whereas if they are with another kanji, it's pronounced completely differently. Like water 水 is "mizu" by itself and power 力 is "chikara" by itself, but together they are hydraulic power 水力, which is "suiryoku." Don't know if you can call that grammar, but there are linguistical structures you might find out by studying grammar like that.
As for study books, my school used Genki textbooks. They're cheap for textbooks and people from my school that went through all the textbooks via the classes (4 years of japanese) easily passed the level 2 JLPT class just using those books. Level 2 is the second highest level. I had one friend that past the Level 1 test (highest) but he's Korean so I think that might've helped.

They usually recommend Tae Kim. Or if you want alternatives, then that guide is full of resources.

Speaking of thread killers, now that there's an abundance of Ask images, and the fact they're easy as hell to produce, I don't think it'd be savory to post all of them every time the thread hits 300 or Page 10.

I did both the threads and the thread killers, so I tend to keep a copy of everything relevant to both of them.

As for not being interested in lewding Arfoire, it would mean betraying Gear. And I can't do that.

Nearly nothing. All I did was creating threads, supporting thread killers when the one who launched the idea couldn't do it anymore, and ensuring anyone would be free to talk about neps. And expressing all of my love of neps through all the stories I've written of course.

Also as for the Ask threadkilles since we now have 8 new Asks I suggest we just go with Arfoire, Nepgya, Rom, Ram, Adult nep, Uzume, NEVER Vert, and EVER Vert

I'd recommend the Shas as their assets are easy to get. Then just do the MK/Rebirth makers later.

I don't have HDN or MK2 or Victory, any of the PS3 games actually, so I wouldn't have access to their assets.

I made the choice of Nepgear's route my playthrough since she was pretty much the main character of the third arc up to that point.
Though I think the game was set up to play Neptune's route first. Still haven't done it myself so I don't know for certain.
