Best Castlevania is the X68000 game
The Chronicles remake for the ps1 is gay as hell tbh fam

What's the best Castlevania ROMhack?

I find messing around with the hexi-decimal values in Castlevania 3 to be fun.

Bloodlines
SOTN
Alucard/Trevor
Iron Blue Intention. Shitty CD versions or other games' rednitions don't give it enough justice. Here's rip from emulator, I think, it sounds exactly like it should - with explicit drums. I really wish there was proper orchestral version.
SOTN
Armor-Battler, first giant knight boss from Bloodlines. Ever since I try to recreate that look in every game with dress up and armors.
Versailles from Bloodlines.
Not much. OoT-style of dual wielding techniques? I really hoped game would use 2D graphics, but once it got revealed to be 3D I stopped giving much fuck. If gameplay is good, then I'll play it, that's all there is to it.

Why is Super Castlevania so shitty?

I enjoyed it, it was also pretty easy for a Castlevania and SNES game
Also that effect was a feature, the SNES had plenty of games that did that

They really liked showing off Mode 7 when ever they could.

Just because it had to show off the effect doesn't mean they had to do it shittily.

One of my favorite tracks.

Is it too much to ask for a 2D/3D Castlevania on a modern console/PC with a powerful graphic engine on the back but with 2D/3D main actions and animations.

It's literally all I want. After SOTN all those games have been pixelshit.

Wow that looked fucking retarded, how do people have this as a favourite CV game?

Underage isn't welcome here, get fucked.

Whta do you guys think of this games? I personally couldnt get into the first one for some reason, didnt try the sequel

Some of the worst offerings from Kojima.

It's definitely not bad but far from good/great.

On a scale of 0% to 100% how shitty is Bloodstained going to be? I'm 100% sure it'll be a low quality clone of Aria of Sorrow with terrible 2.5D graphics and it won't make an effort to make any improvements on the genre. In fact I doubt it'll even compare to Aria of Sorrow.

Jorge D Fuentes does some pretty damn good arrangements

I kind of liked LoS until The Forgotten One or whatever his name was, then I really enjoyed it until the weakspot was one of his arms or something then I really hated the game because fuck trying to do aerial combat in the game.

I really wanted to give 2 a shot but after giving Mirror of Fate a 100% completion I burned out. Mirror of Fate is the worst Metroid-like game I've ever played.

I didn't like them, the first one felt way too detached from castlevania, just cashing in on the brand name. The second one was trying too hard to be castlevania while doing it's own thing and fucking everything up. What sucks is 2 could've probably been good if it was just focused on the castle sections rather than all the future stuff. Didn't play the 3DS game but I'm willing to be it wasn't great

Best Castlevania song
Prove me wrong faggots.

Disgusting

[PROOF]

okay then have the HD version

...

That's not even the best song from the game. Step your game up.

Very nice.

...

Good taste but like you said that's not even the best song from the game.

Man I wish vidya music would return to these adrenaline pumping catchy tunes as opposed to sticking epic orchestra and slow paced "so sad" music in everything thanks LoS

Step your game up faggot.

Step up yours ultrafaggot. I'd kill for a good arrangement/remix of this

You guys all missed the greatest track to grace castlevania

Horrible.

While that card you played is worthless, I'll play your game and play my ultimate trump card.

They're all the same stagnant shit, Circle of the Moon is better.

*

what the fuck were they thinking

Son of a bitch

That's your ultimate trump card?

MODE 7 COOL GRAFX WOOOOOW

And that was so fucking gay too.

i hope to see him at the end of the game and pull a
out of his ass

Do you think IGA may have a lot more passion than Inafune regarding game creation?

This arrangement or Konami's(youtube.com/watch?v=TI5D0dHC7OY)?

I don't know and to be honest I don't care. Unless Bloodstained proves itself to be more than that two bit demo they shat out I'm not interested in the game at all.

we all hope this shit doesn't end in another shitty no.9
also, i enjoyed order of ecclesia

Isn't Inti Creates doing most of the work?

They are shit at level design, so I don't have my hopes up for Bloodstained (not that IGAvania has ever really had impressive level design, anyways).

Both games feel too generic, they tried to make the games have an overall romantic atmosphere instead of a balls to the wall game with loud guitars solos. Just missed the right tone for the game for a mile.
The first game at the beggining ng is litterally a graphics benchmark and has too many stupid giant bosses like that shitty ps2 game whcih dont even fit the game. Satan is okay tough.
2 is way better but feels too gimmicky, a lot of good ideas are really poorly done, like the animal transformation, instead of being cool like on SotN its like a kiddie game bit, and so on.

Both games just lacked better direction.

A SotN remake with that engine and someone at the lead that knows what the fuck they are doing would be amazing.

Some disgruntled MercurySteam employee said how the director thought he was this great visionary like Kojima, but ended up doing fuck all but complain about his team.

Is it that guy, Cox or whatshisname?
He had Tameem levels of asshurt.

I've lived my whole life not knowing this was Naoto Shibata and now everything makes so much sense.

Rondo of Blood
Aria of Sorrow
Richter Belmont
Vampire Killer
Rondo of Blood
Dracula in any game
I hope it won't be sjw crap

Anons what do you think is a good example of what a 3D classicvania might be like?

Tie between Rondo and Bloodlines, CV3 earns a special mention

Order of Ecclesia, though I think Metroidvanias in general are kinda bland

Julius, this nigga's more than enough to take a full-power Dracula revival well into his 60s

Bloody Tears, Julius' rendition of Heart of Fire, Opus 13

Rondo

OoE Dracula's last form where he walks around, that shit was gold

Doesn't look like my cup of tea

I can't really think of anything off the top of my head that would fit the description of a 3D Classicvania. Limited abilities of a Belmont primarily being one-way and low jumps, reliance on subweapons to hit anywhere but directly in front of you, Belmonts in general being kinda squishy, platforming and enemy patterns reliant on Belmonts having limited capabilities. Would have to be a balls-hard 3D game where you're not terrifically mobile and don't ever get new actions to perform besides changing out subweapons while also throwing constantly increasing challenges at you along with a pot-roast once in a while.

Honestly playing Bloodborne with that whip sword has been scratching that itch for me, it's not perfect obviously but it's fun.

I've actually been thinking how a Castlevania beat 'em up would look like. Classicvania has a lot of elements which could easily translate to a beat 'em up with perhaps additional platforming elements.

So as someone who's only ever played Dracula X Chronicles, what Castlevania game should I play to get the quintessential Castlevania experience? Not that Dracula X Chronicles is bad, but I can't really stand Symphony of the Night that's unlocked in the game, with all that RPG mechanics n shit. I just wanna whip it good.

Maybe if it stayed as the Clive Barker game it started out as it would've been interesting.

Play CV1, 3 (play both American and Jap versions as they have some differences), IV, Bloodlines, Rondo, Chronicles, and Adventure Rebirth if you want classic whipping.

Reminder that Bloodlines is the best classicvania followed by III and Rondo

Have you played the magnum opus Castlevania fan game yet, Holla Forums?

Rondo, then Bloodlines
Symphony
Richter
Slash
IV
Gear Steamer from Bloodlines
Library from Symphony
Cautious optimism

Castlevania II, one of the few games made by Konami where the NES version had vastly superior sound to the Famicom version. Seriously, it's ear rape.

What's so good about it

They already did one

It makes Simon's Quest not a steaming pile of shit.

Also some good NPC banter.

At least I own an M3 now and can play any game I want on my GBA Player on my 24" S-Video CRT

Faggots.

metroidvania has to be the worst name for a genre

What are some good, or even mediocre, Castlevania clones? I want to have a Castlevania-like experience.

Well, there's the Touhouvania games. Then there's The Tower of Succubus if you don't mind porn in your Castlevania.

I remember the guy who made IWBTG putting up a game on Greenlight which was supposed to be a methodical platformer like the Castlevania games. It looked very good, but I forgot its name.

Super fight me IRL
Aria of Sorrow
Charlotte JOHNATHON!
Toss up between Simon's theme from Super and Bloody Tears. Honourable mention to the violin piece at the start of CV64
Don't really have one. Gonna go with Legacy of Darkness on 64 for no discernible reason
When Dracula turns into a three story high dragon at the end of Legacy of Darkness on the Cornell story. Spoilers BTW
The Mode 7 shit in Super was fucking awesome. Truly next-gen shit back in the day.
Something that feels like CV without being derivative. IGA's games made a niche for themselves and it's a very deep and comfy niche but I don't know how many times I can crawl down in to that same hole. Individual stages that unlock alternative exits on world maps, similar to Ecclesia (but less linear overall), would be nice.

If you're talking Wings of Vi it's trash.

Dark Souls is the marriage of clunky classic-vania controls (long attack animations and commiting to jumps and whatnot) and the interconnected metroidvania world of the SOTN-ilk. It's the closest we'll get I think. Definitely go for Bloodborne if you've got a Bloodbornebox.

DMC1

I know I should feel bad for liking it so much.

Is N64 emulation any good?

lol no

I liked them, just not as Castlevania games.

Which castlevania is this?

Ah okay, thanks for the suggestions user! Wait, isn't Dracula X a remake/"HD" version of Rondo?

64/Legacy of Darkness

There's three versions of it. Rondo, a reimagining on SNES, and a remake of Rondo only for PSP.

Dracula X Chronicles is a 2.5D remake with a 16:9 aspect ratio which is nice for any 2D platformer, the downside is that compared to Rondo Chronicles only runs at a silky smooth 30fps. Maybe emulators can fix that.
In addition, X Chronicles also includes the original Rondo and SotN as hidden unlockables.
