However, Koei Tecmo has always depended on Sony for this, so by all means, Sony is working as a distributor, and licensor since to play those games you need Sony's license to play on their systems.

The basics are thus.

If yes, go for the 1001 models and earlier. These come with a proprietary charger port & OLED screen that may or may not be your fancy I don't know because my eyes are shit so it's not like I can appreciate in the first place. These models are also wifi & 3G, depending on which type you get. Be sure to ask. The 1001 models are thicker, weigh a little more, and have silver outlines on most of the body.

I can vouch for the Nykos. The carts are snug in their slots and don't jumble when I move about, and it's good for when you want to carry four games or so on you (it holds up to 8 with two slots for four memory cards). It's also a small thing that, if you have a carry case with a single net (a lot of cases like to seam them in the middle), you can toss 2 Nykos in with no fitting issues and be just fine.

Absolute must. Sony-branded ones are actually the best. No stick, no blur from heavy usage. Had mine on for almost a year now and screen is still clear as day, and I use my Vita heavily.

You can probably pick these up much cheaper at Wal-Mart or Target or someshit. They're almost always on clearance because lol who carries Vita products anymore.

Pick one up while they're in the $40 range. They basically do everything your Vita does except for the camera function and the touch screen function. The downscale is just that: touchscreen. There are games that rely heavy on this function that will not play well on a PSTV, and there are a healthy amount of titles that the PSTV will refuse to play. But if you want a 720 experience while at home, it's a good investment.

Your Gazer's main purpose is to summon demons, rage them, bane?,and whistle. Strength does help the demons, but later in the game when it matters that will be covered by upgrades. Since you are going to be using Bane as your main method of attacking you are going to want to pump up AGI because the more hits a Bane has the lower the Hit rate will be. VIT is important as fuck for obvious reasons. Luck comes into play late in the game if you chose to dual wield. Dual wielding is useful beyond the obvious reasons for the status effects weapons give. Luck is what triggers your status effects(as well as protect you from them). MYS is important for having enough magic to whistle since end game and post game enemies like to fuck with your position as much as possible. Your main stats are going to be VIT and AGI with LUC, MYS, and STR being secondary. INT is a dump since your gazer bolt is shit and useless and you have more important things to do than cast it.

Fighter is the top tier single enemy damage dealer. You are going to want to max STR and AGI because like the Gazer the Fighter's attacks lose accuracy the more powerful they become. VIT is important, but not as important as you will want to have a Paladin on your team at all times. Luck is a secondary stat for any possible status effects you have on weapons and to protect your status.

Don't worry about a healer now. I hope you didn't sell your healing staff because that thing is free unlimited heals for the entire game. It may not heal much but until you get your healer it will recover you after every fight.

A Paladin is your shield. Thats it. You should never have any reason to do anything with it other than soak up hits for the rest of the team. Always go Dorf and always max VIT. Luck is secondary for protection from status effects.

Here is the thing about VIT. On level up your life increases by a set amount tied to your VIT stats. If you pump it up early you will reap massive HP rewards on every level up. Same for MYS. However you can only pump 20 points into any stat so it is important to make sure that the class you want has it's main stat as high as possible. That is why your fighter/pally should always be dorfs.

Healer is a requirement. It has so many buffs and abilities that will be absolutely crucial for end game that if you don't have one by then you will have to run home and buy one and train it all the way up. When you have finished putting your party wide buffs on and protecting them you will Holy Shield every turn you aren't healing. VIT and MYS are your main stats so she will survive anything that gets passed your Pally and have the juice to heal everyone else up. Late game she will be able to recover her MP mid battle which is really cool. You may be tempted to throw a magic artifact on her so you can get some extra attacks in, but that is foolish. She and your Pally are peas and carrots. They give the other three members of the team the freedom to do what they want.

For your final character you can choose whatever you want. Me personally I like the Wizard since she can throw debuffs that are helpful for bosses as well as buff the team with Walls. You can stat her a bunch of different ways since she is flexible as fuck. Throw artifacts on her to recover MP and add healing spells and you have a back up Healer who can also use wizard spells.

Thanks for the very thorough wall of text, I will follow its advice. Seems my party composition plans were fairly spot on. The gist of what you're suggesting seems to be that it will eventually be time for Status Effect Hell.

OH SHIT TIME TO PLAY PERSONA 4 AGAIN

When you get end game and post game you need to figure every enemy is going to fuck up your formation, a lot are going to try to eat you, and poison will grind you down quick fast and in a hurry while you wander through long ass dungeons. For the most part your Pally is the one who needs to worry the most about Status effects as she is going to get hit most often. You are going to love status effects because some of them are fun as fuck to exploit when you get shit like Slash 3 and God's Arms on your gazer so you can hit every enemy on the screen per turn with two status effect weapons. Another good artifact combo is true snipe and dual wield on your gazer. True Snipe gives you Concentration EX which allows you to use your Concentration skills every turn without charging them after the initial Charge. The downside is that if you miss you have to recharge. So with the right artifacts and high enough AGI and luck your Gazer can Hit every enemy twice each turn or one enemy 10 times each turn.

Oh and exploit nameless gems to fill out your party fast. They are for sale, unlimited in numbers, and can be used to get a shit ton of gear in the fire level at the beginning of the game that can be sold for a very quick profit. Just load up on them after you defeat Mars and autopilot through the level hitting every gem spot. Return, stock up on gems again and see if you have enough money to get more party members.

Oh and the price for a room is not as expensive for the next party member you get. The first one is 5000 the next is 1000 then 5000 again. Last room is 10000. The reason that she charges you seperate for rooms and party members is that you can have more party members than rooms. The rooms just limit the ones you can take out with you. You can switch who has a room with any other party members you have and leave the old one with Fran until you want them again. This lets you experiment with parties you couldn't otherwise have.

Also make sure to find all the skulls for sexy time with the mortician.

Installing files from physical is a thing of the past. That was because the UMDs were slow as shit.

Patches and dlc, however, do take up space.

It doesn't take much to save games if you have the physical copy, but a 4gb card is really small. Games that have DLC will take up room, and if there's a flash sale on a game you want you might not be able to fit it on a 4gb card with your other stuff. I would at LEAST invest in 8gb, but that's just me.

There's also the browser/email hack workaround, but as I recall there's two drawbacks to that.
1. Calls for a new PSTV, otherwise you're likely to have one with firmware updated, in which case the hack won't work anymore (it was patched out entirely as of the most-recent update).
2. Once you get said hack working, you'll have access to previously blocked games in your possession, but you'll still be locked out of any new games released from then, on. Which makes it a bizarre and frustrating waiting game for most people, I'd imagine.

From what I understand, HENkaku renders the Fail-Mail trick obsolete, and VitaShell/MolecularShell should act like PSPFiler. Even if we need PSPFiler specifically, we could then just install it as a custom bubble. If access to ms0:/PSP/GAME/ is limited, could we then circumvent it with VHBL and use ms0:/PSP/VHBL/ ? ePSP CFW. You'd have access to other emulators, but you wouldn't be able to freely run PSP and PS1 games. I think there were some other homebrew applications available through the package manager that was usable

If you're at 3.55 and bellow you can install a PSP eCFW which will allow you to essentially have a CFW PSP on your Vita and you'll be able to play PSP, PS1 ( limited to a few games with sound, and a some without) and PSP homebrews and emulators.

If you update to 3.60 you'll lose your eCFW and access to PSP and PS1 backups. You can still however install a VHBL bubble which will give you Homebrews and Emulators for the PSP. Henkaku gives you access to native emulators running on the Vita, they are still not as optimized as the ones on the PSP but they're being worked on and should surpass the PSP pretty soon. You'll also get access to native Vita homebrew like Vita Quake, which runs fine but with frame drops here and there, should run much better once GPU support is added.

It pretty much boils down to, do you want to play PSP/PS1 games or not? If yes then stay at a lower firmware, if not then update. However, regardless of your choice you should download the 3.60 firmware from sony's website right now so you can update in the future.

If you want a roguelike dungeon crawler/mystery dungeon style game, there's Sorcery Saga (which is adorable), Omega Labyrinth (sexy, but not in english), and the new Shiren.

If you want something more unique, go look at Lost Dimension and Natural Doctrine. The latter is more of an SRPG from what I understand however.

Then you've got Disgaea 1 & 2 (psp versions via PSNStore), Disgaea 3, and Disgaea 4 as well buy them used if you just gotta have them, don't give NISA your shekels.

Then there's the DRPGs like Dungeon Travelers 2, Moe Chronicle, and Demon Gaze. Moe Chronicle is a fucking cakewalk compared to Demon Gaze, which is a fairly easy game as well. DT2 is pretty tough

If you're including dungeon crawlers, I would say to start with Demon Gaze since while relatively barebones it's pretty fun, and has a sequel coming up in two months. Coven and Labyrinth of Refrain is amazing, while being unique enough that it won't make other crawlers unfun.

I have a really stupid idea. I figure the way it checks against a given firmware package is that it looks for something indicating what version the incoming firmware is, if it's less than or equal to the current firmware version, and if so, rejects the incoming firmware. I see this at offset 4096, padded on both sides by a bunch of null bytes, which is how I'd ensure I wouldn't have to change what offset I'm looking at - an even power of two, with room for the data on both sides to change without moving the offset. Could it be as simple as changing the version number embedded in the 3.60 package to 3.62 or something?

If you're still on 3.60, maybe you could FTP to your Vita through Molecular and delete the update files? I don't know where they'd be stored. Also at the very least you should go into your settings and disable firmware autoupdates.

I haven't seen many schools where you can't pad your schedule with extra classes. Full-rate kicks in at 12 credits, but I've been taking anywhere from 15 to 18 credits per semester. I'm not trying to graduate early or anything, just getting the most out of the time I'm paying for.
I would pick up more classes still, but it's not worth the hassle during exam season, especially since I want to keep my GPA up in case I want to go to grad school.

was change the version string to read 3.62 on the off chance that Sony trusts update files enough to give an accurate version number and let it update. Run a diff against them if you want.

There is a maximum amount of credits I can take per semester, though I know nobody who has actually hit it. It becomes very hard to do not only due to scheduling conflicts, but the sheer amount of work you'll have to keep up with.

No it's not you dumbass, that's 3.60, and I both confirmed it ourselves with the hashes. I downloaded my 3.60 file the day after Henkaku was released, so there's no chance mine could be 3.61. I've been trying to get this to work, but no luck. The Vita's detecting the wifi, and I'm able to connect to it after inputting the ip:port, but I can't seem to actually use the net with the proxy. Basically my Vita says it's obtained the ip adress, but I can't actually get the browser app to load any webpage, and trying to sign in to the PSN gives me error nw-17043-5.

I don't think it's a problem with the update blocker. Wifi connection on the Vita is fine without the proxy, so I'm thinking it might be a problem on the PC end(?). Help?

New to Vita. Bought Senran Kagura Estival Versus, Odin Sphere, and Stranger of Sword City.

Updated on Friday when I got the Vita in the mail. Disabled auto update (thanks OP) and am still on 3.60.

I'm a bit wary on installing Vita Content Manager if I want to move files onto my Vita. Is there an alternative way to do this?

Download QCMA for better file management shit, don't use Sony's. I recall there being another file manager, but I can't recall what it's called

There's qmca, which is supposedly lets you transfer files without having to update. But I haven't gotten it working, either it doesn't detect my vita via usb or it asks for me to update when i'm using wifi.

I use OpenCMA with my 3.18 vita to transfer files

Gave QCMA a try but the Vita kept insisting for me to update in order to connect via USB.

I'll look into OpenCMA and see how it's like.
