Dragon's Dogma

I heard this game is fun is it worth a pirate?

Also heard Crapcom registered Dragon's Dogma Online in US 2 months ago. Should I care?

Imagine a generic as fuck wrpg where you have npc companions that do everything for you and you can just sit back the whole game.
Thats Dragons Dogma.

I thought the MMO was shit but I haven't played it for a longer period of time to give an in-depth explanation.

Dragons Dogma is like waiting for a roller coaster, the waiting is far too long but the coaster is so good for whatever reason you want to ride it again and again.

Gameplay can be good, so long as you choose a class you like. The story is shit though but it's mostly there as an excuse to fight monsters.

The online mode is just using other people's created companions in your team. There's randomly generated ones you can find in the world and your pawn will miss out on learning about quests/areas/monsters and rift crystals but that's about it.

Worth a pirate.

it's definitely worth a pirate. this is one of the few games i dropped after 15 or so hours yet didn't regret that time spent
not a game for everyone, but if you're at least somewhat interested i recommend trying out. gameplay is competent enough to warrant at least a few hours of play

This translated into: this is a game that's all about gameplay.

If you're into stupid shit like story and all that gay ass WRPG shit cucks on Holla Forums are into and you're SHIT at VIDEOGAMES, there's nothing for you here.

People call it "Japanese Skyrim" for a reason.

It's boring, i only created a loli and then played for like 3 hours before dropping it entirely

DD is a great game and definitely worth a pirate, though a legit copy would let you hire pawns from other, real players rather than the usually shitty premades.

Dragon's Dogma Online is absolute fucking dogshit and you're totally fine ignoring that it exists.

I thought the story was ok. Nothing special but it did some really cool things here and there.

It was rushed, and is heavily padded by a shit ton of walking. Fights with goblins and bandits are boring and awkward, but fights with the giant monsters are awesome. It's a flawed gem worth trying, but it's not for everyone.

That's true, but the type of gameplay isn't for everybody. A gameplay-heavy 3rd person action game can be a wide range of styles, you don't even need to leave Capcom's IPs to prove that (DMC != MonHun != Dead Rising)

the companion AI is really clever in DD and there's a lot of TECHNOLOGY in it, so if you like that kinda stuff you're in for a treat. for example, the big troll/ogre guys will grab any females in your party and run away with them, you can grab harpies and get them to fly you around, smaller characters can fit into small goblin tunnels and stuff and explore new areas that you might never have even known existed if you play as a bigger character, etc

it's also worth mentioning that I have never in my life played a game that does magic in such a cool way as this game. most spellcasters in games are limited to throwing the occasional fireball but when you reach maximum rank you're calling down fucking meteors and tornadoes and other insane shit

DD is a great game but it takes a really, really long time to start paying off, but when you smash a goblin with a hail of meteors or land that arc of deliverance and one-shot a goddamned wyvern or whatever you'll feel a real spark of joy

...

Didn't really do much for me. Which for an ARPG is fine. The whole dragon stealing your heart is extremely gay. It had its moments but the gameplay was all that mattered to me anyway.

when you swing your sword you actually feel the weight of the sword and of the hit.

Judging that weight is a big mechanic in the game, I'm sure they incorporated that with every aspect of combat. Does playing as a more heavy character change how hard you swing?

yes. you'll land harder hits but you'll be slower to deliver them. you'll also be able to carry slightly more stuff

None of its fans even wanted it!
So unfair.

If you're a fan of skyrim and otherwise like to eat shit you'll probably like. If you prefer real games with actual gameplay that aren't casual garbage you'll find something else to play

It's great. First hour sucks balls though.

Combat is fucked up.
It's like a step backwards in the action combat evolution. It's really hard to get into after polish of DMC4 and Souls games.

Did you play the game after beating Grigori?

the story in the first half before killing the dragon was intentionally generic to some extent so that what happens in post game subverts your expectations because it makes you a villain that fucked up everything just to save your loved one, and then the literal god shit at the end is especially weird and far more "meta"

Look I love the souls games but complaining about DD's hitboxes while calling souls games polishes is pretty strange. Physics is also tied to FPS in souls games, but I'll definitely give you the dodge one (strider classes are the most boring anyways so there might as well not be a dodge).

Also as for complaining about only choosing 6 skills, if that wasn't the case the game would hardly be an RPG. Should you be able to equip every single weapon in a souls game without penalty? Should you have max points in every skill in Baldur's Gate? Go back to working on Fallout 4 DLC Todd.

Games are all about decisions, and RPGs are about decisions based around the fact that you can't do everything at once, you have to make a build.

The size of your arms also affects the reach of your weapon, and your weight/height affect whether you can carry other characters (they have to be smaller for you to carry them, bigger ones you can just sorta hug to immobilize them), your weight changes how long harpies can carry you in the air, your weight changes how much you get pushed by air from explosions or that windy area on the way to where you kill the Gryphon.

we call posts like yours b8 around for a reason too

Making some OC of cool shit people like to show off because the webms everyone posts of this game are old and low quality. Feel free to ask for requests of skills or features to show off and give feedback (using webm for retards and the only settings I'm using are constant mode and a size limit of 7.9)

It's certainly worth a pirate but keep in mind that you will probably hate the first hour of the game. The first hour is strangely cutscene heavy, you won't have any of the cool skills or classes, and most of all you have to do the worst quest in the game which sucks balls holy shit I hate it so much just remember when you get to the part that is awful and gay, you can kick the ox to make it go faster (which will damage it but make your pawn a mage and take damage so that the pawn uses a healing spell and stand in front of the ox so it gets healed). Though if you want to have some fun getting lost early on and are up for a challenge when you leave the encampment to go do the gay escort hydra head quest, a guy will tell you that Quina has gone missing. Do this quest now both because it takes you to my personal favorite area (imagine the lost woods from OoT except not bullshit but still very easy to get lost in), and because if you don't do it now you won't be able to do some other quests there later.

Also do NOT play on hard your first time through, hard mode was added to the game post launch because NG+ didn't make the game harder so it is intended for people who have already beaten the game. It isn't actually that hard on your first time because it doesn't increase enemy health, but it does increase their damage by like 3x so you'll have some bullshit deaths and will probably have to exploit the consumable system to stay alive.

I dunno man I love all of those games and I don't know anyone that likes one but dislikes the others (unless they haven't played it because of exclusivity) monhun and DR1 on PC when

DDO removed all that.
It's a massive travesty.

Seriously the pawn AI in the online game is completely retarded and will often just run around in circles attacking trees.

oh right the MMO is also tanking in the east. Falling below fucking MHO last I checked. sage for double post

Does anyone know how you're supposed to pronounce Gicel?

This game is great. Fucking great. I wish every game let me climb motherfuckers and stab them in the face

gaaaaaaaay-cell

Bitter consolefags or typical Holla Forums hating on whatever becomes too mainstream for them? You be the judge.

why don't you go and fuck a hyena?
when it's dark out I can't even see ya

Nice Webm

This is one of my most favorite games.

First of all, the music is amazing. Look up "Coils of Light".

It does start pretty slowly. One of the first main quests is to escort a very slow caravan across half the map. The map is huge, and walking across one end to the other feels like it takes an hour, but I haven't timed it. This becomes less of a problem once you start getting port crystals and ferry stones, which allow fast travel. Ferry stones used to be quite common in the final dungeon in the first game, so newgame+ would require a lot less walking. In the Dark Arisen expansion, everyone starts with an infinite use ferry stone, but you'll still need to collect port crystals.

The story is pretty basic, but not terrible. I think the way the story is told is very good though. It's told completely in dialogue, which I still quote sometimes. It's a pretty meta excuse for newgame+, with Dark Arisen's story being about the end of the infinite cycle.

This game is all about the newgame+. You keep everything from the old game, and enemies don't scale at all. However, the majority of the game is too high level for your first run, or even your first dozen. You're encouraged to go to increasingly dangerous places each playthrough. The main story quest becomes pathetically easy compared to all the side crap, so you can move on to the next playthrough very quickly.

The world is huge, but also very dense. Walking everywhere doesn't feel like a chore at first, because there's so much stuff to see and do on the way to your next destination. All the walking does start to get frustrating eventually, but by then, you'll likely have your first few port crystals. Place these fast travel items in places you walk to frequently.

The combat is just amazing. The companion AI learns how to fight along with you, and it can pull off some pretty complicated maneuvers. With a sorcerer on your team, you'll be fighting amidst tornados and hails of meteors often. You can even play as a sorcerer yourself, if you don't mind long casting times. Giant monsters are common enemies that require the player to climb. Climbing is fully interactive, you can maneuver around any part of the giant monsters to find their soft spot to stab. My girlfriend once rode a burning gryphon to the ground.

Of course, my girlfriend's favorite part is the character customization and armor choices. Most people just make lolis, but you can make pretty much any humanoid figure you can imagine. My girlfriend knows a lot about clothing, and says most of the armor and clothing is historically accurate. It's pretty funny to make a green orc, red succubus, or a balding, fat man with a pencil stache, and watch them court the dutchess.

Size and sex are not cosmetic. Smaller characters can fit into smaller places, and regenerate stamina fast. Larger characters can reach higher places, hit harder, carry more stuff, and wade into deeper water. A tiny loli can still effectively wield a hammer, but will not hit as hard, and can't carry as much heavy armor and weaponry, but doesn't get tired as quickly as a large character.

I have completed the game countless times, and have done nearly everything. I still haven't defeated the expansion boss' final form, Death, or the Ur Dragon. My girlfriend has finished about 6 times, but she likes to goof off more than me.

I think this game is definitely worth a try, but be patient. You'll miss out on a great game if you get frustrated with the first few quests and quit.

In Nehrim when you reach maximum magic rank you can call down the sun

My tips for Daimon's second form is play the strider and use helm splitter + physical damage augs + conquerer's periapts + MK rank 9 augment for survival (assuming you have decent armor). You just need to dodge the spells flawlessly and always remain under 30% health so you get the huge armor bonus from the MK aug which will make it so he doesn't one shot you with the melee attacks (in Hellfire armor I take like 10 damage)

As for death there are a number ways but you pretty much want to get the assassin aug for solo play and ditch your pawns then just whittle him down. Alternatively, if you don't care about his drops and just want a shit ton of XP, after the first shortcut you unlock in BBI he will spawn in the next area next to a bridge. You can actually knock him off with several bow skills on any of the strider classes.

How many people here just made miniature copies of their character? With funny mustaches.

Does Dragon's Dogma ever go on sale other than the five finger discount?

If you mean on something like steam, yeah. Wait for the autumn or winter sale

It was at 50% off last steam sale.

Oh shit I need to do that next playthrough

Alright, hands up. Who else tried their hand at making their waifu?

I thought the first Dead Rising was already announced for Steam.

Heresy

Because it needs to be posted in every thread.

Of course, left is self insert trap and right is qt thick brown waifu

...

Normalfags leave

Who doesn't, user

How is it an RPG? It barely fits the requirements by allowing you to choose a class and having a basic equipment system, the experience and leveling is entirely linear and the game is all focused on the combat and exploration.

...

I find it hard to believe people were asking for those settings, because they all look like shit, except Madeleine.

It's definitely a good game
Don't get all hyped up by Holla Forums about it tho about a ridiculous number of fancy pants mechanics because that amount isn't actually that shocking and are sometimes outright unfounded

Either way you'll have fun with it

I like the first and fourth a lot more than Madeline, but the loli is garbage.

The loli looks like the preset one, which seems super lazy.

What's the point of a Madeleine pawn if I STILL CAN'T WAIFU HER.

Actually, she looks like the preset with a more horse-like face.

What do you mean? Madeline was my Arisen's beloved on my first playthrough. She even had unique lines for it and moved in afterwards.

...

...

>he doesn't like >>>/ss/ with cute dresses on the shotas
It's okay to have shit opinions as long as you keep them to yourself

Traps are gay no matter what, but a trap with a woman is gay and garbage.

How exactly? How is a male and a female together gay?

You sure you're not falling on the "Holla Forums is one person" thingy

Dragon's Dogma > Dark Souls

It's not unreasonable and it did happen

Mark leave

Does anyone still play DDON
I'm giving it another shot because Season 2 seems to have changed a lot of gripes people had, namely stamina management being much easier to maintain, and they even made a workaround for those shit boss rage modes in the form of an extra meter that when built up will let players do really good damage to the meter with regular attacks. perfect for literally anyone not a melee class.

You forgot your icon

s-sorry

Didn't the rerelease sell pretty well though? I remember them making enough to keep a sequel in mind. Of course I could be wrong

Sales and critical reception (and Holla Forums reception) aren't necessarily the same thing. It sold a respectable number.

This is what steamspy reports for DD:
steamspy.com/app/367500
Those numbers probably aren't completely accurate, but they should at least give a good idea how well it did.

He's exaggerating but there are definitely far more posts that are negative towards the game than there were before the PC port (which would be pretty much none). I think they're all from soulsfags who expected the game to be exactly like DaS with a heavy focus on 1v1 combat.

These generalized comparisons don't really mean anything because it just comes down to which elements you value more than others

That's actually pretty nice given that it was made on a fraction of the budget with none of the marketing and released 5 years late when the original console version was received somewhat poorly due to the atrocious framerate.

It is indeed constantly compared to Dark Souls. Maybe those expectations are the ones that tint the view on DD. I played the rerelease and I never thought about Dark Souls until someone pointed it out.

Interestingly it goes the other way around too. I introduced one of my friends to DD before he played Dark Souls and he absolutely hated the boss fights in DaS because they felt artificial and game-y (whacking at a big dudes leg for 10 minutes versus climbing onto him to stab him in the eye a couple times or charging up big ass attacks).

Possibly, but they weren't really the ones who invited the comparison.

Yeah. I fail to see how people make that comparison almost instantly though. Maybe it's because DD or DaS aren't the only third person fantasy-medieval games I've known. For me Dark Souls offers a completely different experience than Dragon's Dogma

Yeah, I finished it multiple times.

"It's meant to be generic" doesn't make it better.

The scene after Grigori was cool and all, but I don't think it was worth having the first 80% of the game being generic and I wasn't really a fan of the Everfall.

Not sure if this was mentioned before but everyone who has the game and enjoys a challenge should look into the bitter black isle challenge. I put over 100 hours into the game and at least half of it was doing this challenge multiple times. It's fun but not easy and it also requires a bit of research into the treasure chests drop rates that are in BBI.

Well, if you're gonna talk about it explain what the challenge actually is

Which challenge? Are you talking about the quest where you collect every tier 3 armor piece?

I'm sorry I don't exactly remember all the specifics about the challenge because I completed it originally on ps3 when it first came out and then on the PC on release day so my memory might be a little fuzzy about it.

Basically you cannot complete any part of the story except for the Hydra that you are forced to kill. After the Hydra, you go straight to BBI and try to beat it starting out at lvl 10. The whole point is to beat BBI twice killing Daemon in his first and second forms. It's tough because you start out at lvl 10 but if you know the drop rate for chests and the best way to kill the bosses, its fun as fuck.

If you wanna know more about it, the YouTuber vageta311 has videos on it that explains all the rules.

I'll make sure to avoid his videos
Anyway, I kind of remember a challenge like that. It would be interesting, albeit frustrating as fuck. Still it would be manageable in the end, since you'll level up constantly until you manage to be powerful enough to breeze through it. Also I remember Dominators drop tagilus miracles, and that's a boss killer right next to blast arrows

Yep, it's hard at first but you can reach lvl 200 before it ends. Also, throwblasts are OP in the beginning.

I wonder if a sorc run is viable for that challenge. I wonder if a sorc run is even viable for regular game's Daimon

I never ran it as a sorc so no clue. Anything is possible with an OP pawn though

Sadly pawns are pretty stupid. Even stupider when dealing with Daimon. I was playing mystic knight and to even have a chance against the second form I had to chug 8 tagilus miracles and liquid vim to grab the bastard's chest head and wack at him till he died, all while my pawns didn't do anything useful in the background

Did they at least yell any useful hints or commentary while you were hitting him?

Just to follow up and maybe spark interest:

pls respond

Other than being astonished at Daimon's massive cock, no. Not even "Wolfs hunt in packs" tier

I killed the dragon today and started everfall or whatever they call the huge hole in gran soren
I've visited BBI because i wanted death to gape my tender asshole, how do you damage him?
Also, can i just keep dropping and clearing rooms in everfall? when does it end?
Where can i acquire anti Petrifaction potions? the room with 2 cockatrice really tore me a new one
And finally, is there any mods that restore berserk's armor in the pc version?

That may be because of the knowledge system. Pawns have a knowledge system where the more times you fight a n enemy or type if enemy such as griffons, the more they know how to deal with it. Soon the pawns will be able to solo Daemon. They are OP when they have the knowledge on how to kill an enemy.

I liked the chimeras. It's sad they become less of a challenge and more of an annoyance later on

You can do the everfall rooms as long as you like. The contents respawn every few days. Also, death has an incredibly high resistance to everything, magic too. Chug some tagilus miracles and either shoot him to death with arrows, or great cannon him a new asshole.

Guess so, yet I still haven't found use for them in that fight

Let's address the last two questions, I'm feeling fine today:
Cockatrice liquor is a drop from a cockatrice that cures group petrifaction, secret softener cures single target petrifaction. Panacea does the job too. All of them can be bought somewhere, Camellia sells infinite panaceas post game and the guy from BBI has a stock of cockatrice liquor.
There is sadly no way of making a mod of berserk's armor for PC, the items are there, but they lack any textures

...

It was seeing shit like this that absolutely sold me on the game.
Played 140+ hours as an actual fucking wizard and casting that shit never stopped feeling powerful and amazing. Don't regret a single penny I spent.

You take that back right now
Holy Bolt OP

I tried, but failed. I think I needed more knockback.

boomp?

I bet it was the frequent threads, watch the same thing happen with EDF. Contrarion is a overused word but its actually applicable here.

I played it, hated it, and want to try it again. I just found it really boring. What should I expect? Should I think of it more like a slow-paced dungeon crawler? Is it just really esoteric and hard to get used to?

Most negative poss that you saw swarming the thread at the beggining were from a single guy with a proxy.
Observe how he only posted once with each, then never posted on the thread again.

That took about about five wakestones and 45 minutes or so, because I could only use Holy Focused Bolt unless he either used the breath attack or the glowing attack that pulls people in. I barely had time to scrape off a Gicel for those.

who gives a shit.

bumpamatta

If there's an 8ch guild on DDON, would anyone here happen to know of it?

In return I offer qt.

I wish more games had magic like Dragon's Dogma.
Casting those spells that summon meteors and spires of ice is fun to do, even when you're only fighting wolves or goblins.

...

8ch guild is Daimon Dogs

Bumping because after being brainwashed by Holla Forums i finally bought the game.

Can i just play like i want or do i have to follow certain builds to prevent a "A jack of all trades is a master of none" scenario?

It was breddy gud. Made a warrior loli and had the time of my life smashing giant monsters.

You don't need any goddamn builds and it's a waste of time. The only place where this could be an issue is endgame BBI, but you're supposed to use periaps anyhow against the bosses; the place is supposed to be hard as tits.

Alright, I want to give this game another try, but I'm not sure how to approach it. What should I be expecting? What should I be preparing myself for?

A lot of fun followed by growing despair as you realize how much better the game should have been.

I'm still surprised people are playing that shitheap, especially after your collective autism contained in those threads made you make a fake mabanogi thread to "hide from shitposters"
I don't think I've ever seen a thread fuck up that badly before.
It was hilarious

Immensely satisfying freeroam and exploration that stops dead once you realize how small the world actually is.

The first time in any location, though, is pretty golden.

>ambushed by invisible saurians

They have their own board

That's even better, so after valiantly fleeing from the people who didn't like their game, they bravely shut themselves inside a hugbox

its a win win then

Wew, i think i actually used your slutfu when i was still playan few weeks ago.

I know, I just find it hilarious, they not only begged the mods to ban people who didn't like the game, I remember them making an infographic saying anyone who didn't like the game was one guy with proxies, they made a fake mabanogi thread, and when it got deleted they shut themselves in a hugbox.
That's just too funny.

Like I've seen a lot of pathetic things in my time on the chans, but that has to be up there with one of the funniest.

Still the best waifu

Yeah I agree, Feste is the best waifu

...

At it again, Captain Autism?

Man, you made me start a new game has a Wizard MK later I have never really done a magic character on Dragon's Dogma so this should be fun

Pretty quality Baldmode Wizard there dude.
Don't be shy, though. Embrace the robe.

What is it with you people and lolis?

Bump to save from page 14, started a new playthrough aiming for the mage knight class.

Why didn't I like this game the first time I played it? This is the tightest shit.

what are the best options for wizards?

I was just waiting to get into Gran Soren so I could change to sorcerer
Lolis a best

Whatever allows me to blow shit up but from what I have seen you just level Sorcerer and go to town with your offensive spells you can change to magic archer or mystic knight later but that's up to you really

Forgot my pic, fuck

Have any of you guys killed the Ur-Dragon yet?

Sorcerer better than Mystic Knight? My pawn was a sorcerer the first time I played, I wasn't expecting spell-casting to be any fun.

Honestly I find the prospect of perfect blocking that proc spells to be pretty interesting but those spells scale from you magic attk (same with the arrows with magic archer from what I have heard) so yeah you level Sorcerer for like 80 - 100 levels and then change to MK or MA and rip everything a new asshole

What's the lowest price on this thing?

Sounds like a good plan, I built my character with white-bearded wizardmode in mind

Free

0 of whatever currency you are using.

I mean, a legit copy, guise.

...

she's a slut

is there anything new?

how many waifus are there?

Some more wizardry shenanigans and finding good fighter pawns is going to be a pain in the ass uh?
Also Mason is the best fantasy nigger

I haven't seen any new material, then again I don't really look for it

There's many waifus user but don't be fooled the best one is the one you choose and don't let anyone tell you otherwise

I'd kill for more High Fantasy games too but sadly, Lord of the Rings and Elder Scrolls poisoned the well.

Whatever Steam sales make games.

Does anyone the Red Sun webm?

Turn your gamma setting down, man, get those dungeons as dark as they're supposed to be.

>the best one is the one you choose and don't let anyone tell you otherwise
I'm pretty sure Mason was my beloved the first time I played.

Have you tried to ensure that you and your Pawn are the same class? Apparently, if you and your Pawn are different classes, they don't learn too well so they become almost useless.

Why wouldn't you choose a pawn that has a class that compliments yours? No point having two sorcerers and being stuck in a scenario where melee would be useful.

*complement
You know what I mean

Mostly you just need to be sure your pawn has the right inclinations (dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Pawn_Inclination ) you can buy the potions that changes them from the old pawn in the encampment outside of Cassardis where you fight the hydra and just have the black cat dude to create copies
Also your pawn has 2 main inclinations and a third one that it's not visible on the status page

Because the only way for a pawn to be useful is if it can actually learn those all of those battle tactics which in itself only occurs when the pawn gets to see you demonstrate them in combat. That was based off of a massive pawn guide I remember reading on the DD wiki.

Your reasoning makes the most amount of sense however, in order for pawns to be useful, they have to learn how to be good at their class by being with someone who is of their class and "learning" from them. If you do make a complementary pawn then, you're going to need to make sure it gets rented out by other, competent players (which would mean buying the game).
