Dunkest Dargeon

So I played Darkest Dungeon

+ Narration by Wayne June, narrator of arguably the best series of Lovecraft audiobooks

+ Writing is good, so is the visual design

+ Nice mix of classic RPG mechanics and a few quirks unique to the game

- fucking grindan

-/+ fucking random number gods (I get it, it's an RPG. It's okay)

- fucking grind tho

devs will patch this possibility out in the next update

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I just stacked Vestal with two very rare heal boost trinkets

I wonder how far I can push this until the enemies can't do damage that I won't be able to heal from.

I dream of 3 antiquarians + vestal Ruins jewery

The game is shit, other then new classes and balancing they haven't changed much.
They added a handful of new enemies and the bosses are still the same ones you have to kill 3 times to progress the story.
The RNG is atrocious no skill shit, no way to mitigate it.
Just overall boring FTL wannabe.

...

...

The concept and atmosphere of the game are fucking fantastic, but the devs have this retarded notion of NO THE GAME HAS TO BE HARD, going so far as to nerf common tactics and making the rng more bullshit so no amount of player skill can prevent losses. It kinda gives the impression of a large chunk of the dev team leaving and being replaced by idiots that can't into proper game design.

?

I love this game, but it's kinda bullshit.

In fact, I went to one dungeon with one of my best parties (Man At arms, leper, occultist, plague doctor) to the Coves cause Im nearly maxed on the buildings and that one would give me what I needed.

The game gets really bullshity from time to time I tell you, the easiests fights can be a big fuck you.

When the game takes the piss on me like this I just can't stand it and I prefer to take a break, one thing is losing because I failed managing the party or because I did the wrong calls. Another thing when the game straights up fucks me and call me Nancy.

reported to the devs so they can nerf these classes

I'm not typing like Reddit, I'm typing like a person that had to write 5000+ word essays in school.

At some point dividing shit into paragraphs for ease of reading, proofreading and text navigation becomes a second nature.

Here's your first and foremost mistake.

You absolutely need someone to heal stress from other members of the party, that is not the fucking useless Jester (so, Crusader or Houndmaster).

That's what this game is all about. Kinda like Fire Emblem, but with no option to reset.

Jester is not useless the fuck are you saying, that one party I said, Hellyion, Abomination, Jester and Occultist are great because they can run usually three dungeons in a row thanks to the Jester alone

You don't need stress healing anyways, you get it by camping. I always focus the stress-inducing enemies and bring stress trinkets on pourpose.

I use the leper on that party because the party lacks burst, Man at arms are for buffs, Plague for DoTs, Occultist for healing or moving enemies into Leper's reach. All Leper does is kill, I rarely use any of his buffs. And yes, Occultist heals are unrealiable but better than Vesp. Dem 50crit heal sometimes mang.

Stop being a basic bitch and divide them based on what you're talking about, separate subjects, not simgle lines:

OP sucked all the cocks.
Brown or white, long and small, smooth and bumpy, he swallowed them all.
Cocks truly were his life.

However on his way back home he shat his pants.
He didn't have a spare, so he went around with crusty briefs for the next 5 months smelling like shit.

He had been a bad boy.
No more tendies for OP.

which build of this game should I download that was released before devs added unfair bullshit HARDCORE mechanics?

user, but my reply box is small so these single lines look like paragraphs

If you get proper trinkets and balanced parties you shouldn't have problems with those mechanics.

people have beaten it without leper or plague doctors, dude

Beating it is one thing, not getting your party members murdered out of principle is another

...

Vestal/Arbalest/Man-at-arms/Leper
It works every time.

Plague Doctor doesn't fit that one party man.

Who do I remove? Occultist? Then I'd die eventually by health loss.
Jester? Then I'd get stress in no time thanks to Abomination.
Hellion? Then I'd lack damage/bleeding/tankiness, she also removes blight/bleed.

Plague Doctors and Lepers are by no mean needed.
The nº1 Party I have that is the best has none of those, and this party NEVER had a problem
Bounty Hunter, Houndmaster, Ves, Arbalest. I could switch Ves for Occultist but I have enough Marks for Bounty to destroy everything.
Hound is for camp, marks, bleeding and more range.
Ves or Occult for healing and mortality debuff removal, occult also for more marks.
Arbalest for damage long distance, marks, healing buff so Ves/Occ heals more, Push melees away, she's great.

If you guys want Occul as healer, remember to put him that one trinket that reduces the debuffs chance so you don't bleed on your party.

play a real roguelike / dungeon crawler

i want to explore plague doctor's darkest dungeon

Enjoy

G-got any more of the other girls?

this game is fucking sadistic

I had about 20 hours of fun with it but couldn't anymore

The problem was the faggot developers thinking that pure difficulty alone is the only measure of quality in a game, or more specifically the fact that the only ways they could think to up the difficulty was by forcing the RNG it be more prevalent and stacked against you with each update, penalizing players for cautious playstyles, and patching the game to just unilaterally decrease viability (nerfing character skills accross the board any time someone discovered a semi-optimal situational build and talked out loud about it is almost disgustingly petty). These retards are the kid in the playground with an everything-proof shield, their the first time DM with the stupidly underpowered Campaign Boss he keeps railroading the PCs to lose against because he can't accept that the people accross the players are better strategists than him and the game should be allowed to play out organically.

I think the breaking point of irredeemable twattery was when they introduced the secondary defense stat, nearly made the game unplayable because it was just this side of impossible for most of the heroes to damage any of the monsters even when maxed-out, and they spent weeks pissing and moaning about how difficult it was to rebalance the stats, and how they'd rather just rename the monsters to reflect their broken OP'ness than actually fix the mess they insisted on making, than acted as though it was an act of charity when they were finally forced by playtesters to give them their ability to actually fight back. The sheer arrogance and lack of understanding of what constitutes a good challenge is almost stunning.

This is one of these games that actually got worse the more they trid to patch it.
Kinda like DCSS

Nearly all the nerfs to the characters were good.
I mean, Man At Arms was able to solo end game dungeons.

One thing is nerfing broken things, another, nerfing some strategy that is OK.

fuck off

Any similar game but with more stats and less rng?

Man, this game is pretty tough.
Almost didn't make it past DD1 at week 6.

Seriously though, this game is easy with negligible RNG if you know what you're doing. Anyone who complains about RNG doesn't know how to play the game.

Did you Finale Spam fella?

Even if they deal massive damage with Finale and you bring herbs to remove the debuff, it's quite nice that you actually did DD1 at that level.

Well done nigger.

...

They were actually lvl3 when they went in there, but yeah, Finale spam basically. Though normally I spam Solo with 4 jesters with 4 debuff amulets and quickdraw charms. Stress wasn't an issue since there are 3 fights in which you can infinitely stall against 2 enemies that don't ever attack you, so I just downed the damage dealers first. Mostly bled the Shuffling Horror to death.

Was that a 4 antiquarian long run?

Jesus fuck.
I'm nearly never able to fucking finish Long Lv5 quests even with my best parties because I tend to forfeit when shit hit the fan refusing to die or to risk death's door.

Also, Darkest Dungeon (the location), has one thing that makes it REALLY easy: the map is always the same so you can directly go to the objective.

4xAQ long run, yes.

I've read your other posts and your team comps seem very… well, basic and beginner-tier. Try this one, it never fails me in regular dungeons (from front to back):
Quickdraw Jester (+acc, +speed, +dmg trinkets) to 1-shot something you need on turn 1, then buff/heal/whatever if need be.
Bounty Hunter (2 +stun trinkets) with the 2 damage skills and Uppercut + Come Hither.
Houndmaster (2 +dodge trinkets) spamming Guard Dog on BH. Standard issues is with the self-heal, mark and basic attack.
Occultist (Cursed Incense + Sun/Moon Ring) with stab, heal, weakening curse and either the pull or backline AoE. Use whatever seems fit.
The priority for this team is to get rid of damage dealers that can target positions 3 and 4 first, then go from there.
For the cove, though, you could go for the variation of having a PD instead of an occultist, or just bring bandages since bleed resist is somewhat high in this party.

So you are admitting to being underage?

I am a beginner though user.
My main teams are, from front to back.

1º Man at arms, Leper, Occ, PD (Most generic successful party)
2º Crusader, Houndmaster, Vestal, Arbalest (This one is the most basic one, but it was my first attempt)
3º Bounty Hunter, Hound, Vest, Arbalest (Best boss killers I have, best raiders, best human killers, they lack strong DoTs, only bleed)
4º Hellion, Abomination, Jester, Occ (Second best boss killers and best party for long dungeons however it's really risky since the only way to kill the back ones is with Jester's bleed or Occultist bringing them in, yes Jester does the dance forward then finale and moves back to his position with stabs, Abomination has movement and so Hellion have, they're great together)

And this is where the "yolo" parties I made so far:
Dysnfuctional family (Leper, Jester, Grave, Occ). They're meh but they worked to kill low level bosses for me.

The rest of the parties I make them in the go.

Your party sounds good, I dont have those items for the Occultist though.
I just use for him cleansing crystal to make his bleeding less likeable, and Junia's Head to increase his healing 30%

So far I only got three deaths in the entire game and I'm currently sitting on week 78 and did Darkest Dungeon first and second floor. Three of the deaths were because I sent them blind on the second Darkest dungeon to see the map layout and see where the bosses were so I could go straight there with a proper party.

You're doing pretty good, then.

Just a small tip: the Cleansing Crystal and Junia's Head on an occultist are a beginner trap. On higher levels, 90% of your heroes have enough base bleed resistance to never be bled in the first place. As for Junia's Head, they don't help at all when you roll low and if you roll high, it'll only result in overhealing most of the time. Occultist is a damage debuffer and eldritch/backline killer (stunner and mover, too, if you run him in the front), his heal is just a bonus.

I fail to see another use for him than moving / dbuffing and mainly heal, really.

What's more, I can't bring Vestal with the abomination so it's a must have.

And this is my main problem with RNG really. This is the first fight and I already got a disease because he stood at 1HP.

This kind of stuff is what gets me.

o shit nigger, what are you doing
Abom transformation is only for extreme cases where you really need the damage, otherwise his human form is far more valuable in terms of utility and accuracy.

Get rid of that useless Life Crystal and slap a Stun Amulet on there.

On champion level, you'll NEVER be able to kill stuff fast enough before they do that kind of shit to you. The sooner you realize the importance of stunning, guarding and debuffing, the better.

The abomination damage is good when he transforms, Jester fix the stress issue.

I already stunned the giant, and I couldnt stun him a second time, I tried to debuff him three times with Occultist so he dealt less damage and he resisted the three of them.

Yawp brings too many debuffs for me to use, I prefer to stun with Abomination.

I don't have guarding with anyone on that party. I only have guarding with 1º and 3º parties I mentioned earlier.

On unrelated note then I'll ask a few things:
Should I drop on Man At Arms Retribution for Command?
Is revenge or intimidate worth as Leper?
Should I pick up with Plague Doctor Embol Vapours and drop Disorienting blast?

And that's why you don't run Cleansing Crystal because it reduces debuff skill chance.

I generally run mine with Crush, Rampart, Defender, Bolster.
Revenge, no. Intimidate with a Debuff Amulet is better to have than Hew (since you want to use Chop for everything actually damage-related) .
Embol Vapors is good to have if you want to fight shamblers, but otherwise, no.

That pic should be fake due to having the same item twice though.

Which are the worst classes in your opinion?
Grave Digger seems to be the worst and I don't give it use to highwayman when I can pick Arba or Bounty Hunter.

By the way, is the bounty hunter prepared for the third stage of DD?

I'm a porn wizowd

Ask and ye shall receive

if anything you should be happy that its divided into neat chunks

I'm admitting to never having gone to college because I deemed my high level school courses to be good enough for gamedev

The pic is real. It's from the early builds when you could have 2 of the same trinket on a guy and Solo did damage. Yes, the game was THAT broken.

Worst class IMO is by far the Crusader. Sure, he can do everything, but he does everything worse than other classes can and since you want to specialize heroes later on, he really falls off.
Graverobber is good for lunge+fade and blight stacking teams, highwayman can be fun with an AQ up front to just riposte everything.

Zoophobia is a bit iffy, but shouldn't matter if you know what you're doing. (also not the most optimal pick but whatevs)

Are the devs planning to add gender pronouns as part as the next major update while also removing anything fun in the current version as they've been doing for years?

...

So is this game like the original Wizardry where you use and throw characters or just a "hardcore" final fantasy?

Why do you mean by not the most optimal pick?
Should I drop the Trophy for an Unholy one since Im going to DD?

I'll post the party that I wanna bring there with the "usually" items that I go with since Im with them right now in a normal quest.

I already posted BH though.

Also about the Crusader, yeah I found him very lacking but I did the second floor with him funny enough, I use him as a front line tank-support, he's only decent on Ruins.

I haven't played Wizardry but I can tell you that all characters are disposable and sometimes you can literally just wipe your ass with newbies to loot a long dungeon as far as their stress will allow, get the loot back to Hamlet and then trash them.

You can do this as much as you want. Stage coach is always filled with fresh meat.

Nah, keep everything as it is. It's you playing your game, not me.
After all, it's best you see for yourself what fun times await you in there!

...

I started to hate this game when it started to feel like I was managing a bunch of retards and it felt like it was taking too much time to get these retards in top shape to get killed by things even more retarded.

Please tell me the game has improved from that.

elaborate

provide screencaps

It's like that, still, but it's all about collecting positive traits and giving them stress and virtue bonuses.

Ain't nothing like the feeling of your hero becoming virtuous and wrecking a boss.

Also, on the sidenote this game is the most realistic management game I've ever played, despite the simplistic mechanics.

In my experience, managing people is 100% like this game. It's really, really spot on.

It's not about what I play or what you tell me.
It's about learning, if you tell me X item is bad I expect an explanation on something that I may have missed.

For me these kinds of things is just sharing knowledge, its not letting others pick up for me, for example I'm not going to drop any of my parties even if you told me they are basics or for beginners but I do see another approach and learn what may be most effective and why.
After learning, it's all about adapting it to my own gameplay.
480% less damage what the fuck man

Well to be honest, you can avoid death in many situations. It's all about swallowing your pride and forfeiting the quest.
Or you can use freshmeat without trinkets to gather gold in a suicide spree.

The game has many different strategies and you can make your own but people whine about "m-muh OP character got nerfed in a singleplayer game" when the nerfs has been for characters that could fucking SOLO end game content.

If by that you mean everyone is a fucking retard that'd trip over their other foot if you looked away for a second then yeah it's pretty realistic.

I know about that, the problem was that it just took too fucking long to get anything done, just like managing real people.
There's some level of grind I find acceptable but when it's as much as DD's grind with the added bonus of extreme repetitiveness you just get really sick of it.

Yes. It might sound strange but I really appreciate this game.

Whomever only ever worked as a subordinate and resents the management for having it "better" should play this game and realize what its like.

Really makes you think

That's just nitpicking. Moreover, your second claim is not true. Antiquarian has a white color combination.

Plus, no color combination is an "alt" they all have an equal chance of appearing on any character.

Please stop, you're acting just like SJW's with their "oh this game is objectifying" and "oh this game is sexist and racist".

If its not blatant, obvious, or detrimental to the game as a whole it doesn't fucking matter.

She's tanned and the other one is pale.

Literally the same thing. Alt, Variation, call it whatever.

On a related note I saw this in the trivia on her page.

Really makes you think.

Well, it's hard to give out advice for the Darkest Dungeon itself without spoiling what you'll find in there. It IS the endgame and what the whole game was building up to after all.

Of course, now that I look at your lineup again, the advice I can give for it is the same as in normal runs. You should pack some extra stun skill chance on your BH for consistent stuns. It's always nice to have a reliable stun ready. For your damage dealers you want as much accuracy as you can get. In fact, accuracy is perhaps the most important stat. There's some reeeaaaally dodgy enemies out there.

Oh, also, don't believe in the game telling you you only have a 90% chance at most to hit at any time. It actually does go to 100%, but the game never displays that for some reason.

Yeah, there's lots of silly stuff that can happen in this game.

What the fuck does it matter? Her skin is clearly white.

No, it's not the same fucking thing, the word "alt" means "alternative" implying that any one skin is "primary".

Yeah, it makes you think that they did one of the following:

1) Marketing stunt

2) Subtle tribute

3) Inside joke

4) Coincidence

5) Appropriate release date picked out of "why not" mentality for a character already developed

Your mentality matches SJW mentality: Confirmation bias and looking for things to bitch about.

What did you mean by this?

Plague Doctor is fucking adorable.

Exactly what I said.

the fuck you about, nigger?

How about my Hellion waifu

once I'm done with the match I'll conjure up as much as I can

...

I had a great one of the barbarian taking stress damage as she's being pulled into rape by some tentacles but I can't seem to find it right now.

There isn't much at all, user.

I did what I could.

Finding more would require me plunging into the depths of Tumblr.

Makes the end more impactful, no? Can't always have your way. Sometimes there are sacrifices.

Found it~

With an added bonus.

Tfw monitor backlight bleed

after learning anatomy for days to draw shit properly im triggered

Honestly, seeing actual naked women in general has made me lose erection when I see poorly placed vaginas like this.

You two are doing the Lord's work boys.

Games fun for roughly 30 hours in. Once you defeat all the bosses for the second time over, I found it hard to muster the desire to fight them all again for a third time. It's just the same shit again and again. That's the real test of sanity.

Does the game still prevent you from mixing experience levels, and/or has provided a better way to catch up in level more easily?

You still can't bring higher level people to lower level dungeons normally, however you get a town event which enables that.
You can upgrade your stage coach to give you higher level people (they even come already upgraded).
Overall XP requirements for levels have been reduced (several times).
There's town events which increase XP received.
Ancestor's Portrait which gives you +50% XP.
If a person has been to a successful DD mission, they no longer take up roster space and give everyone in their party +50% XP.

With the last two, you can powerlevel a lvl0 to lvl6 in just 2 long champion runs, provided you make a suitable party designed around protecting that guy. (personal preference is Vestal, MAA/HM guardian, Newbie, Jester)

Thats some lucky ass Virtue roll.

How do you keep them so healthy without a Vestal or Occultist? PD's heal is shit, its only to remove blight/bleed.
You took self heal on Leper and Hound while protecting Jester?

Not luck. I purposefully went out of my way to get them as stressed out as possible, then gave them the Tentacle Idol + Hero Ring and forced them to go virtuous (65% chance). They all went virtuous in the span of 5 minutes by retreating out of combats and passing turns. Even if someone had failed, I could've easily removed the affliction by getting their stress back down to 0 with the jester. They all went Courageous and spent the whole dungeon heroically yelling at each other. Was hilarious.

The best way to heal damage is to not get damaged in the first place. This was done in the cove. Houndmaster spammed Guard Dog on Leper and just dodged everything. Piranhas can only attack the back 2 spots while they're in the back 2 spots and only the front 2 in front 2, so just kill the ones in the back and you're set. Thralls get either Finaled or Chopped. Shaman stress is irrelevant because lmao4virtue. Guardians can only attack the front 2. The crabs and jellyfish don't matter because Battlefield Medicine and the snails are just laughable.

Well these fuckers can disease me from time to time.

I also see what you did there with the Hellion.
Man At Arms 4 with that one item for his 4th position protecting always Hellion that is on Death's door to use that one trinket that powers her up greatly on death's door, Occul for debuffs/movement, vestal for healing/stun I believe?

Eh. Most diseases are either "meh, whatever" or if it's actually bad, I just use The Cure / Leeches / Snuff Box.

As for the Martyr Seal Hellion, pretty much. Though, I don't recommend doing it since it's a pain to set up properly and hunger heals just ruin everything. Especially not in the warrens with the average drummer speed.

Not the ones that reduce accuracy. Sweet Jesus do those ACC debuffs make me want to punch walls

fuck school its just indoctrination. smash the system
