Stratego > Chess

Bioshock Infinite

Schneizel moved his king illegally, and into check in two spaces so he could gauge Zero's reaction. This was to see how rule-abiding he was (if he called foul), and also whether he would get his hands dirty (the king) or use a minion to kill him (the pawn), or if he was simply a coward (moving out of check)

Instead, Lelouch ended up doing the same thing to Schneizel - by confronting him directly when he didn't expect it.

Metal Gear Solid Five

What kind of names are these? These are seriously the most retarded names I've ever heard.

Fucking casual

Dungeon Crawlers and fighting games.

This tbh famicom

...

Okay

Can you go 10 minutes without shitposting or is there some kind of chemical that gets released when people get mildly annoyed that you need in order to survive?

Almost as bad as "tetris is the best game ever" meme

backgammon

...

go fuck yourself

Actually Tetris has more depth, complexity and strategy in it.

Civ

All right come on, someones gotta post that chess porn

Stratego.

fuck off carlos

Reversi gives each piece the same power, but I think it's tactically superior to chess.

Yu gi OH

Risk > Chess
Prove me wrong, chessfags

no man's sky.

Skyrim.

toptrolls

You're not using that word correctly

you just need to reach the walls and lock your opponent
shit's easy

I think OP means "intricate."

Fairy Chess.

You see this piece here? This piece is called "The Merchant" and it allows you to do whatever you want, including moving your enemy's pieces, as long as you pay enough shekels.

you just need to reach the king and lock your opponent
shit's easy

What the hell am I looking at

Chess is a simple game for cowards. Limited moves, bait, sacrifice and simple pathing. Kill all students.

It's a variant of chess where they just made up an assload of new pieces with weird movement patterns and special abilities.

It's the "card games on motorcycles" of chess.

It's kind of awesome.

abstractstrategygames.blogspot.com/2010/10/fairy-chess.html

Any shogi game.

Chess and Go are solved games and pointless to play anymore.

mai waifu!

Sounds radical

At pleb shogi.

...

Try this.

...

...

Shogi >>>>> Chess
And since you can play Shogi in Yakuza…

In your fucking dreams faggot.

You don't know shit, cunt.

Lots, that's why video game AI is usually ass but a computer from the 90s could play chess against you pretty well.

...

...

Guess what kiddo:

If you want to spend half the game in setup as you make some stupid fucking fortress, go the fuck ahead.

Chess is action within the first 5 moves. It is a much more tactical, emotional, and impulsive game.
Shogi is a slog of setup and then the game could go on for fucking hours and never end.

But Drumpf isn't his name. Has reddit yelled it at you so much that you actually forgot what his real name is?
You can't use a made-up nickname to call someone's name stupid because it's not their fucking name, dumbass.

Complex.

Sorry shogi doesn't accommodate ADHD as well as chess does. Maybe you should go on the forums and ask if they'll make changes so shogi 2 will be more accessible

Well then, chess is essentially assfagots compared to shogi.

What's the shogi of videogames?

For those with the fortune or common sense to have never watched Code Geass.

Except this couldn't be farther from the truth.

Chess tests your mental fortitude, and your ability to hold back on impulse where otherwise you would let it take over.
It is the ultimate game of the mind as you are always going to be conflicted, even when making the best move.

Shogi on the other hand is a slow game of setup. There is no stress. There is no purpose. There is only setup and execution. If you adapt you will be okay.

Compare that to chess, which feels like you are a fucking war general with 10 guns being pointed at your head, ready to shoot if you make a bad move.

Chess is and will forever be the superior game. Meanwhile the nipponji fucks are beinged laughed at while they drink their fucking tea playing a game noone gives.

A game is "solved" when you know the single best way to play for both opponents, and any deviation of it from either player would increase their chance of losing. Just because computers beats humans at both games does not mean the game is solved, only that computers beat humans at them.
Vid is example of a solved game. Neither Chess or Go are solved yet.
I don't know if knowing all possible outcomes is required for proof of the solution, but i imagine that you need to know a significant fraction of the possible games, which apparently is somewhere in the vicinity of 10^120 for Chess, and way more for Go.
If you somehow had very smart proof, so that you only needed 1% of the possible games, that's still 10^118 games that have to be calculated. Solving chess is probably years away still.

...

Now you've gone too far you doublenigger

check out this high level play

Go

Or Shogi if you're talking chess variants. It literally has the highest complexity tree of any natural chess variant.

If /a/ years ago on cuckchan didn't spam it to hell especially with fagzaku and ledouche homolust then maybe I would have finished it.

C H E S S ?

...

You say this is what your soul desires.

But the thumbnail glitch reveals you truly want monster girls in your life.

Look deep inside, you know this to be true.

I wish more people played go. It's worth it.

Everyone wants monster girls in their life

Hey now, the second season was an entertaining trainwreck.

It was fun to watch with /a/ but it took a pretty huge shit on the first season.
All those memes

A lot
but EYE is pretty high up there

Dwarf Fortress

Yeah, the first season was objectively better paced and bit more coherent.
Spinzaku got old fast

What
The ending was the only remotely good part, and that's because of /a/ collectively crying lime bitches

Oh nigga I read that shit wrong I thought you said the second season was more coherent I stayed up all night I'm fucking out of it You're a nice guy user

I found it a bit easier to understand what was actually happening then the second season, then again I haven't watched either since they were airing.
The ending of season 1 or 2? I remember a lot of rage with 2

wow, so complex games

Season 2, a lot of "rip my nigga" followed by salt and fighting over if he died or not until they released official art of him alive

To this day I haven't won a single game in the Chess that comes with Windows.

Good man, I play chess all the time but nobody taught me anything about minesweeper.

Yeah the fighting over if he died or not went on for like what? A week? I stopped following after season 2 heard the newer stuff kinda sucks, the fact they didn't leave it ambiguous is sort of disappointing

The newer stuff doesn't pick up after season two, it's between seasons 1 and 2 in the timeline It was mediocre, but it has an amazing soundtrack

Even on the easiest difficulty? The CPU's practically suicidal on easiest.

Easy doesn't count

DF.
Horrible design, hard to get into, but it can last you an eternity.

As expected from a smugshit saving moefag

To be honest, I never went to /a/, least of all in 07. But Code Geass memes leaked over even to Holla Forums in those days.

what is the game in the thumbnail?

Mass Effect 3

dwarf fortress has a larger state space than chess

checkmate atheists

That never happened.

It's a blatant lie when he said Trumps last name is actually Drumpf. It's Trump, and the last time it was different was over 300 years ago, when his family lived in one of the Holy Roman Empire's member states, and then it was Trumpf, not Drumpf.

The kike Oliver simply lied.

Obligatory

go is absurdly complex

Mahjong is absurdly fun

Take this frome someone who is 6 dan in mahjong and sucks butt at go.

because the game is won before it even begins
whoever gets north america (RNG) will win if they remotely know what they're doing

also RNG combat

...

Conway's Game of Life.
pmav.eu/stuff/javascript-game-of-life-v3.1.1/

Dwarf fortress?

And it's implemented in the roguelike Ancient Domains of Mystery. That makes two games total.

Chess 2: The Sequel or your own homebrew Chess mod.

Faggot I never said tea per se was bad. THEIR tea is bad.

Chess isn't a video game.

Actually, it is.
It has several developers constantly improving an AI that can analyze and play the game, and it has multiple software and websites that can be used to play the game digitally with other people.

I think matcha tastes terrible but good gyokuro is top tier m8 one of the best green teas out there.

Friend the only good teas are either straight black or earl gray.

Fuck off with your hipster bullshit.

What about Mr. T

If u say so

...

Next we'll listen to Cletus on why bud light is superior to a "obscure" Belgian brew because it's for hipsters.

fairies make everything better

get out of my face and never come back pleb

Hahaha you were gonna vote for Donald Trump but I called him by the 15th century pronunciation of his name, now what?

Absolutely disgusting

Of all the things that should have come out of Avatar, I'm deeply troubled by the fact that they never made a real Pai Sho game.

Turn based games are a meme, any non turn based game is already infinitely more complex since it becomes problem solving in real time. All turn based games come down to learning the best patterns for every situation and repeating it. Where non turn based games are the same but with the element of time limitation.

i sort of agree, but turn based games also allow you to have a much larger scale than what a human could handle, and more detail and depth than what a human could handle.
its forgivable when its singleplayer no?

Minesweeper is set up so that essentially whether or not you win is random. If you do everything perfectly, you may at some point come to a point where you have to simply guess where a mine is in order to proceed. There aren't any tactics that you can apply to that, the game instantly loses itself for me.

i hear you. its mostly meant to kill time though

git gud

y-yeah

It isn't all that well programmed either, I've had several occasions where the first click was a mine.
Same with solitaire. I've had it happen twice or so that all I could do was scroll through the deck and get an instant loss. Not to mention there's a certain percentage of games impossible to win in solitaire. I don't remember how much, like 30% or so.

Wow, that's a lot of knights. Horse king, griffon, jew, rhino, pope, llama, hang glider, telescope…

Minesweeper has a very low skill ceiling for a reason. They're meant to be games that you don't need to think about. Gets kinda sad when people play them for hours on end, even watching television probably puts your brain to more use.

Weakling.

well memed XD 10/10!1!!

...

OH SHIT I was gonna vote for him until JOHN FUCKING OLIVER called him his centuries-old name, which was actually Trumpf and not Drumpf but Current Year Man lied in his all-over-the-place full-of-lies hit piece. Boy that f on the end, which actually sounds a little cooler than just Trump, that makes me want to vote for Hillary, a literal criminal.

That only really works if you're talking about blitz chess. Regular chess is the same trash as shogi.

came here to post this
chess is obviously more competitive though.

possibly competitive pokemon

But you can, you retard. There are people that still live like this.

oh. no.
shock.
horror.
kill yourself faggot

argument to emotion

actually i take that back since theres no rng involved in chess

what about when determining who is better at chess? this is something decided at birth

I don't remember this from the movie.

you know what i mean
no critical hits misses or chance on hit effects or rng status effects like sleeping freezing or paralyze

yeah im just ribbing you

Stratego.

Incomplete information, bluffing and deception.

Traditional/Table top games

Chess is not particularly complex and intrinsic makes no sense in that context.

Axis and Allies > Risk
If you don't believe me go try TripleA (it's free).

love it

Probably not

...

...

The Campaign for North Africa (1979) is the most complex board game ever devised that does not require computer aid. Literally every pilot and plane in the entire theater is simulated. To ease play, instead of tracking each gallon of fuel you track every 35 gallons instead. It also tracks fuel evaporation (this is sometimes higher or lower depending on the type of container used). Every company is tracked. Again, this game simulates the entire North African theater and everything in it at the same time. Estimated playing time is 1,500 hours if you have a full crew.

What's that second image?

have you ever played?

That seems a tad pointless since nobody is ever going to fucking play it.

Fucking Italians.

i gotta have a good meal

I guess Italians really don't fuck around when it comes to lunch time after all

Does this mean everything else in GuP is true too?

I know all British tanks post-WW2 have tea kettles inside.

An adventure

This reminds me of something. I read about some guy who was famous for something, back in like the 1920's or something, who had an entire room of his house dedicated to toy soldiers and shit that he used to enact entire fucking battles like war games.

It's driving me nuts because I can't remember who it was and the details, and google ain't helping.

H.G. Wells?

Stratego.

/thread

Chess is the first open world game so it obviously has attracted hipsters of every generation. Sure, it teaches one to think ahead but so do bullets.

Fuck Stratego. Games that are decided before the first move is made suck.

Nah, I think H.G.Wells and his friends just occupied playrooms of their kids to play their wargames, or just played outdoors.

Also he was surprisingly good game designer, though his wargame looks bizarre by modern standards - it was pure skill (it had coin tosses initially, but he decided that the game was too random, because one soldier managed to defeat ten opponents that way - today, he would've written ebin greentext story on /tg/ instead of completely reworking rules to make sure it's impossible), and he worked hard to make warfare as humane and gentlemanly as possible - it had rules for taking prisoners, and it was more, and it was more beneficial for player to surrender his troops rather than getting them killed. Of course, it was written before WW1.

...

There's traces of an ancient Egyptian chess-like game that may have involved rolling dice.

Sadly few giant stone tablets with monsters on them.

Ancient Egyptian kangs would like a word with you. Possibly the Sumerians as well.

In my experinece people that are good at chess arent smart, they just know a shit load of plays just by playing it too much

Stratego is just like chess, except your opponent's pieces are hidden.

So it adds bluffing, deception and misdirection in the game. Things that are not in chess.

You want to keep your strongest pieces (Marshal, General) unknown for as long as possible.

Chess can be "solved" with mathematical equations. Stratego cannot, because it has yomi and mind games.

Are Mahjong and Go like chess in that they're easy to learn, but hard to master?
I can never tell what the hell i'm looking at when I see a board in play.

Wrong Avatar.

...

You know jack squat about chess do you OP?
