In this modern age, humans are thinking creatures while machines do the heavy physical labor. It seems like a waste of opportunity to not utilize the brain someone has and instead make them work in low-wage jobs performing mindless actions replaceable by automation. It's not economically efficient at all.
I propose making college not just free, but mandatory for the population to increase the human capital of everyone. Once someone completes high school they're immediately sent off to finish whatever college education they choose.
Drastically raising the minimum wage to something above $30 an hour. This will make it more economical for business to automate rather than hire these now very expensive workers to do menial jobs.
And finally, because many business will resort to hiring cheap workers in poor countries, there will be a very heavy tariff on all goods produced in cheap labor countries. Now companies won't be able to use cheap labor and may have to automate.
After all this, there will be a drastic decrease in low-wage blue-collar jobs as machines will take them, and an increase in high-wage service sector jobs, which may be beneficial.
