I don't trust space. The shivans are still out there, just waiting for the right time to strike…

Let them come.

You'd never stand a chance against even a single juggernaut, let alone a swarm of them.
And there's the whole "they can get from one planet to another in hours" where you spends weeks travelling in and out of systems and up to months travelling between them. You could never hope to force them into a fight where they don't have you outmanoeuvred on top of the rest of your short comings.

Erm user?

Anything in 40k is just gonna throw ship at it till it dies

Awww shit son you've gone and triggered the 40k fans who think it's powerful compared to most sci-fi.

Just to bait you on, I will point out the shields on a small GTVA fighter can withstand missiles with warheads in the kiloton range, with ease. Their armor is similarly tough. Anything short of a lancer won't even scratch a ship from freespace, and those juggernaut ships can collapse stars in on themselves, if you want a ballpark figure for power generation.

Juggernauts in freespace are retarded strong. It takes many many 50,000 Mt beam pulses to take down one of those things and shrugs off 10,000 Mt anti-matter bombs.
5,000 MT is roughly equal to ALL nuclear bomb testing from 1960-1996 which includes the Tsar bomb and the multiple USA bombs detonated throughout the 60's.. so x10 that

Also, that juggernaut has 4 beam cannons that put out 125,000 MT per pulse each. To be fair though, I think the shivans put everything into making their fleet of juggernauts. So once you take them all down nothing can stop you.

50,000 Mt? Try four well-placed shots. Mission kill.

gearbox an hero when?

Space Engine v0.98 is out. There goes the fucking evening.

en.spaceengine.org/load/core/spaceengine0980/2-1-0-32

space doesnt exist

That's right, there's no distance between us at all. We are a singular compound and everything we are experiencing is the mass delusion of a degenerate ageless being.

...

Rouge planets are a thing. No sunlight, but a pebble orbiting close around a gas giant can get comfy due to tidal heating.

No shit? What colour do you think Mars is?

I didn't know this was the designated shitposting thread.

In any event, the new atmospheric composition models seem to not be able to figure out cyanobacteria since every fucking Earthlike is now a "mainly CO2" atmosphere despite tons of vegetation.

...

...

...

Any good space vidya on linux? I'm starved for some space fun. Bonus points if it's open-source.

inb4

Are there any good Linux space games that don't suck and are not oolite?

Two anons, one desire.
I would suggest Oolite if you have a joystick. It's an Elite clone that runs well on a potato and can be quite fun.

Well, I don't know about open source Linux gaming but there's plenty of good games for DOS which you can run on DOSBox.

...

Freespace 2?

Anyone knows where pic related is from?

Will give both a shot.

I used to know the name once. It was anothet Elite clone, but with vastly more interesting ships.

Well that narrows it down to pretty much every Elite Clone on the planet then?

That station looks like someone modeled it of off Cortex Command's TradeStar Midas.
So it's probably not from actual game.

Does anyone play star trek online? How is it?

pay2win shite.

Really? That's a shame. I just started watching DS9 and I'd like a side of vidya to go with my star trek fix

Pay to not grind more like.

It's ok, though it takes a while before you get to missions that take place near DS9. which is a hub area in alpha quadrant that both klinks, feddies and romulans can visit.

Try FTL. It has that star trek feel that I haven't gotten from any other game yet even though it's not star trek universe. It's also pretty simple and fun as fuck.

There's also Space Nerds in Space (or aurora) but you need 4 or 5 other players and a big TV or a projector. Usually more of a nerd thing because it needs some setup and a bit of roleplaying but since the shows like tbbt made "nerd things" more popular you can probably bullshit some normalfags into trying it.

Netrek, Conquest,Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, Escape Velocity and Scum of the Universe are great games as well but with poor graphics and some of them are abandoned so there will be no more updates. They are not star trek universe per se but there is heavy star trek influence there.

You could try Aurora RL mate

Rouge means red, you retard.

Startrek fix, huh?
Aurora is the game for you. Yiu build up a trans-neutonian Empire, design ships, conqer planets, systems and do all the things you want to/can do.
It also has a neat naming list system, which allows you to have everything star treck themed.
It's something of a DF in space though, not nearly as bad, but still bad, especially since it is so very very wide-cast. From creating your own sub-race of humans to colonize a planet with, or makig biologically engineered super soldiers, all the way to researching your own engines for that new supertrooptransporter you are building, or simply fireing a lot of Carbon into the atmosphere of the planet your enemy is on to suffocate them.
It's fun, but autistic as fuck.

Hopefully soon, Battleborn was a total disaster.

lgdb.org/game/open-imperium-galactica
Try this one out, I love it.

Shame. I mean, its kinda cool looking at other planets and shit but the whole point of wanting to visit other planets is to find other life and shit, not just look at cool craters

…not exactly a ground breaking pasta.

There's Pioneer, too, as a Frontier clone…I think Oolite is probably the better of the two from a fun perspective.

Shut your whore mouth, the Krait is GOAT.

Do you like Chinese grind games? No? Then you won't like STO.

Although if you treat it as a casual single player game, via the missions, it's not too bad. Just don't spend money on it, certainly in its current state at any rate.

Eh. I forgot to account for the more colorful word. It's not important though.

Following the development of 0.98 on the forums, he's basically going "adding lots of trees and animals is hard", which it probably is. I think he wants to add more space phenomena and finish up the space ship code first, as well.

Personally I'd like to see the terrain code given an overhaul first. It's starting to look unconvincing. You have these huge flat planes on barren, airless worlds that don't have any craters or anything. Or eroded-looking terrain, which doesn't make any sense in that environment either.

Well no shit it's hard. It's also the whole point of wanting to explore planets, finding something interesting. Looking at the same high-res textures and bump maps is only fun for a short time, and then after, every planet looks the same. I have no quarrel with it looking really good because it does, but from a distance. But once you get on the surface of every single asteroid and planet or moon, they all look exactly the same

Well, asteroids aren't so bad in SE. It's mainly moons and planets that are a problem. Look at how erosion is handled. It isn't, it's just a fractal with an "erosion pass". It's basically a Bryce or Terragen landscape rendered in realtime.

Animals and plants are nice, but if you don't have convincing looking terrain it's pointless. You can at least fake those Noctis style.

...

This one looks like Jar-Jar.

I as searching for sometime to find an image to insult for you but couldn't so I'll just say don't talk to me or my shipfu ever again

Reminder that this is a canon ship design

Just thinking about that coarse bear touching my balls is making me hot.

Don't forget to remind everyone that the ship has a population density over 50 times greater than Tokyo, but still has room for large parks and freeways, but nobody uses the freeways because all intraship travel is done with transporters, but nobody leaves their quarters anyway because the ship is controlled by direct neural links that serve every function from entertainment to actual controls, and this link to their synapses is also used as the processor of the ship's main computer. Also the ship was organically grown instead of built.

fuck off jew

jew detected

You have to be shiting me.

Where the fuck is that ugly thing from?

That ship is from the Star Trek/Quantum Leap crossover 15 years ago that everyone is still trying to forget existed.

Are you not impressed with the genius of Doug Drexler?

No more smiles. Only tears now.

anybody played this?

Thanks for reminding me how horrible this show was. Had completely forgot about it all these years, until now. Only thing I liked about the show was that vulcan bitch.

They make mention that the big J explores entire galaxies

By that point you'd think that humanity would have evolved like the alien species in Star trek TNG season 3 ep 25. {Transfigurations}

Only played the first one. Pretty fun, simple mechanics, but it was way too easy to trick the ai tarheting and take out some of the capital ships and few missions pulled some artificial difficulty bullshit by making you use the nearly useless heavy bomber ships for them. Heard the second and fourth games were also good, but the third was awful

Liberalism is a mental illness.

Kill yourself, humanist, socialist, statist, darwinist cancer.

So if I want to be rich and happy I need to be more like satan, thanks user

That takes me back. That was the greatest time to be a gamer.
I still remembering playing Starflight on the Genesis (Mega Drive for us) and not knowing what the fuck what I was supposed to do.

wut a cutie

Matthew 16:9

In an later episode (episode: "Future Tense") they retrieve the shuttle of a time traveler. The ship is bigger on the inside by way of technobabble. The ship is also from the 31st Century which can be used to explain why the Enterprise-J can hold so many people.

Worth pointing out it's an obvious Doctor Who reference, but by the 31st Century the Federation should have the technology to do such a thing.

...

New ship breaking mechanics in Starsector.

If I can't have starwars What are some good mods for Galciv 2 ?

Dude, we have figures that make no sense in every sci-fi setting where you get a dozen people to write descriptions. You get inconsistencies up the whazoo. You get gigawatt lasers that can't vaporize a small rock. Massive inconsistencies between what's written in one source, what's written in another, what's shown.

Just.. abandon all hope before you even get into these power debates.

Now I can't unsee it either….

Have some good stuff:

The gameplay supports that claim as well, fighters can survive nearby bomb detonations.

Determining the actual yield of those weapons is harder but we know a Fenris takes 5 direct Cyclops bombs to destroy, and is about the size of an aircraft carrier and has no shields. So there's no rational way that the Cyclops is more than 10kt. The "intern lore" says it's 3.1 gigatons.

Dear god, we finally have a way to defeat Venatorfags!

We need to let everyone know!

My shipfu is pure and perfect so you shut your whore mouth

Mah aryan brethren!

So, this came out recently.
Has anyone read it yet?

...

Great googly moogly.

The ship reveal for the TV show is an abomination too.

I haven't read it but I do know that the sjw's in the sci-fi community got their panties in a bundle that it wasn't rewritten to include more stronk womyn and darkies.

is this some star trek bridge commander fan model?

That design was made canon by TNG.
memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/B-24-CLN

Gruesome stuff tbh. The redesign looks like it's been flattened out for a minimalist look.

From the refit page:
memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Constitution_class_model_(refit)

There's a reason the only thing they used the design for was scrapyards and minor background detail.
It was unsuitable for a major appearance in 1977, and it's unsuitable now.

Those old design look better than the new one.
Doesn't the lore say the nacelles need to be on pylons in view of each other to create the warp bubble? I mean, that's why the intrepid has those swingwings and shit.

And? They can do that in 99% of all space games I played.
Last time I checked, space has no atmosphere to carry a shockwave either.

Numbers in the decriptions make little sense in almost any setting. There's many other inconsistencies (calling a non-laser, a laser, referencing ammo capacity when the weapon has none, etc, etc…)

I've seen this shit in ST games, SW games, Babylon 5 games, 40K games, etc..
If there is no central figure that oversees all those numbers and makes sure everything is tight and makes sense (and there never is), you awlays get shit like that.

I can't say I've ever heard that about the nacelles.
It does add some logic to a few of the designs, but raises questions about others. What about vessels with one or four nacelles?

I remember reading something about how a twin nacelle design delivered the most power to efficiency ratio.

and that early ship designers learned that multiple nacelles beyond two didn't add much extra power

IIRC single nacelle designs were used for short range patrol ships because it could still reach warp but was cheaper to build.

sci-fi literature getting pozzed is still depressing as fuck to me.

Why did this happen anyway? I mean, sci-fi has has long contained both optimistic utopian fags and sceptics, but what caused the sceptics to get purged? Was bazingaman and 2007?

Lad, sadly sci-fi literature has been pozzed almost from the getgo.
Although I love Star Trek it's filled to the brim with leftist bullshit.
You may remember a fucking TNG episode where the found out about the warp equivalent of global warming.
Heinlein, in spite of making a great book like Starship Troopers, took a long time to get redpilled.
He was a democrat up until his 60s or so.
He loved making the MCs non-whites and such a an ebin troll twist.
The MC in ST is from the Philippines if I recall correctly.

I even heard that some of the Dune sequels were pretty fucking shit.
I hear the same about Ender's Game.

Correct.
The bigger bit of poz in ST was the pilot thing though. Women were preferred as ship pilots on the grounds of G-force resistance and reaction time being better in females, despite that being exactly the opposite of the real world.

The examples you're using tells me a lot. Not that Ender's game was really pozzed but it was a children's book. Star Trek was very light sci-fi that only normalfags read and coasted on the association with the television show. At least mention Asimov or Niven.

In terms of Starship Troopers there is a huge fucking difference between having a non-white protagonist and the current state of things where having white characters is seen as unrealistic by a huge portion of the fanbase who insists that no white people will be left and everyone will be a different shade of brown.

...

If you bought it during the kickstarter I'd say there's no shame in that.

i need some facts about that.
i think there are some characters that got turned into girls in the cartoon or something like that

what is wrong on making the mc not white?

He means writing and policing, not reading

Ender's Game is a funny example, given that the author is a pariah because of his religion and the resulting opinions on the gays and how many women he should be allowed to marry. He should've written under an islamic nom de plume.

...

That really bothered me as well.
Women are simply not made for any sort of combat.

Of course there is a difference lad.
Star Trek is also nowhere near as pozzed as things are today, no question.
My point is that from the get go a lot sci-fi has sadly been pozzed/ leaning towards poz.
I know that back then there was also non-pozzed and maybe even redpilled sci-fi.
Usually those tended to be the ones that are near-future and very sci and not fi focused (aka hard sci-fi).

There is nothing inherently wrong about having a non-white MC.
It is strange however for a white man, in a white country, to have an MC who's not of his own race.
Heinlein was notorious for being an "ebin troll" in that regard. He just wanted to rile people up.
"That character you've been associating with? He's not white! Haha silly guy! He may be written like a white person but he's no you dumbass! I sure fooled you!"

True enough.

archive.is/oLNWH

In his defense, I think Heinlein did that just to fuck with people rather than for some proto-sjw treason. I mean, he also wrote a book about a shitty mary sue character just to mock the handful of feminist sci fi authors there were in his day.

What game is this?

Starsector

It's something like Mount & Blade in space with 2d SPAZ-like not sure whitch was first since this was in developement for a while combat but better.

The torpedo is a part of a mod i think.

Debatable, I mean you have Jadzia and Worf who eventually are solely on the show to have a black male and white female making out on camera all the time, look how fucking progressive space is. I couldn't watch the last few episodes of the series because they then proceed to make Ezri make out with Worf.

So, lots of No Man's Sky stuff popping up, sounds about as disappointing as everyone expected.

Apparently the whole 'reach center of universe' thing can be finished in 30 hours or so, you can't attack npcs, upgrades are mostly cosmetic, and it's super easy.

Thanks.

There were also studies that came out around that time period that said women had better G-force resistance. So he was just going with what the scientific community of his time was saying, don't think it had any ideological basis.

Anyone?

That's what I said.
He was just trying to be a shitlord.

The thing is though that Jadzia makes sense. It's just some parasite.
Let's just say that it could have been worse and that stuff today is most definitely worse.
Please don't ruin best Star Trek for me.

I mean I agree but I find this funny.

Their relationship held zero substance what-so-ever, the only similarities they had were from Jadzia's former life as Kurzon. If they were on screen together it was either them making out or Jadzia's a tuff grill who can take on a Klingon who won Bat'leth tournaments in a one on one fight. DS9 is still best Trek but that is in spite of Jadzia and anything remotely Trill related except Ezris cute face.

Don't even get me started on how fucked up it is they they accept Trill in the first place, that scene where it's pointed out that all joined Trill are cold I couldn't stop thinking that it's because they are fucking dead and being puppeted by a parasite but everybody around them is totally cool with this gruesome fact.

They volunteer to be meat puppets, right?

It's well known fact they fixed black people in the Eugenics Wars.

Jadzia/Worf was the most cringe worthy shit in the entire show.

Yeah and that was the most disturbing part for me. What kinda training does being bug food require anyway?

I'd guess heavy cult-like brainwashing.

Starsector, the mod is Imperium.
Sadly (or luckily, depending on what side of the deployment you were), the author nerfed that particular ship.

I thought most of the augmented people died.

Augmented negro is baseline human. They just didn't notice.

I remember one episode where Dax was on trial, and half the episode was spent arguing over the definition of personhood and how it changes with the symbiosis. Then instead of resolving it, they just proved s/he didn't do it anyway. I don't even remember what conclusion they came to, since both sides argued multiple ways depending on what was convenient for the trial.

Stargate's implementation of parasitism was less disquieting.

If I remember correctly they made everyone believe that only a select few can be host and that its some kind of high honor to be a host when in reality any Trill works as a host.

I got the feeling they were trying to rip off the episode where they put Data on trial but just couldn't think of a way to make it work as well.

I remember that being mentioned, I'm surprised no one started asking questions once Ezri got pozzed.

The Trill government and medical establishment operate a massive cover-up to hide the fact that anyone could be a host if there were enough symbiotes. Even people who are relatively mentally unstable. Apparently there are so many Trill desperate to become parasite-controlled zombies that there would be planet-wide riots over who gets to have a worm.

The entire episode I was comparing it to Measure of a Man in my head, and not favorably.

Why don't they just breed way more symbiotes?

Do we even know how the symbiotes breed?
The only time I can think of when they aren't bonded is when they're in those pools on the homeworld, waiting for a host. If that's when they breed, it's a very small window compared to the hosts' reproductive time.

I thought the slugs ran the show. I doubt they'd want to share the hordes of willing hosts. They have a good thing going on.

Just watched Yesterday's Enterprise. It was a nice what if episode with a more militaristic Starfleet without resorting to the Mirror Universe and the Terran Empire.

This shit is melting my brain and I love it.

I've never sued Space Engine; does it only have visible light, or can you look in things like radio or x-ray?
And if it does have the relevant wavelength range, is the redshift and blueshift near the event horizon simulated?

I guess I'll be on my own then

Only visible light, and there's no doppler shifting yet, no.
But he's nailed the simulation of a "3D hole in space" pretty spectacularly here. The only way to pass back into normal space is through the same 3D hole you entered from - you can pass through it from any direction.
Really trippy experience.

The whole thing is made by a single russian cosmologist with a few PhDs if I remember right.
Here's the feature list / roadmap if you're interested:
en.spaceengine.org/forum/21-11-1

I'll have to look into it. Especially once AGN are implemented, since they're my field of study.

SagA* got updated too, nice new accretion disc.
Also the view from inside.

Best Elite style game that isn't Elite?

Does it have to be 3D? If not, Escape Velocity Nova.

X3

It's a fun semi-elite clone though, even though all the ayylmaos are mostly based on animals.

X3 just seems really boring to me tbh

Stop.

He may be black but he's not written like or by a black. It really shows.

The Trill really are quite disturbing.
I agree that it's strange for everyone to just accept them.
Then again, they're all super tolerant you guys!
Ezri really is a qt.

Get out user.

That's true, he likes baseball and is actually a pretty decent father.
Except for that time he abandoned jake when the dominion took over DS9 I guess

I don't think it would be possible to write a character to be like any specific race in the setting without it coming off either ridiculously offensive or pandering. You know, like those injuns in TNG.

Jake was an adult at the time and was a reporter. Not his dad's place to watch him like a hawk.

Don't be silly user, stereotypes make great characters!

Whatever you helps you sleep Cisco. I'm just surprised he wasn't used at leverage.

Watch "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Moon"

If space was real, they would not be faking it in a Hollywood basement.

But Sagittarius doesn't have an accretion disk, it's completely dormant.

terminate yourself

X3 is a bad game. 1000 tiny problems shred any joy to pieces.

inovaestudios.com/Battlescape

I remember this

tell me about Stellaris, why does nobody play the game

It's shit.

I beg to differ, it was pretty shit on release tho.

Pretty much.

They game is straight up incomplete and they were misleading at best and lying at worst about it's content. In hindsight it's pretty obvious that they avoided showing a lot of the game not to "not spoil the exploration" but because there was nothing there.

It had been 2 patches since release that shuffled the numbers and UI a bit, but haven't added any notable content to the game.

Eh its breddy gud for a couple of playthroughs, and theres mods after that.

Assuming you didnt give paracucks any money, otherwise kill yourself.

You just have a high tolerance to complete lack of content.

that was before it started choking on you're mum

J IS LOVE J IS LIFE

No fucking way.

...

They successfully bred away the bad groid genes, doesn't mean the niggers were genetically engineered. Eugenics is about controlled evolution.

Outer Wilds fucking when?

what's this?

One of the comfiest space explorin' games.

C-commander Boreale?

Funny thing your secret society is running for pressident in Greece for the glory of the helenic race

Looked at the fig (lol) campaign.
Doesn't look that promising, looks kinda shit actually

Come on, you really thought such a snazzy name would have been in use only once?

You don't understand, user. Play the alpha:
mega.nz/#!mAklXBqC!ChuudoWw0urUDQQ6jBec2c9PuPiipeVoFfq77zy9jv4
When you've navigated the murky depths of Dark Bramble and seen the lights, found the great secret there, explored the insides of both the Hourglass Twins, been to the core of Giant's Deep, landed on the Quantum Moon, used the ancient portal network, tracked the precursors' journey, explored the ruins and met all the travellers you will know why I'm excited for it.

It's a completely unique game of the sort I've always been wanting, comfy exploration of a solar system and uncovering its secrets is more fun than you think.

Fair enough, I'll give it a shot

Read the txt detailing the controls or use a controller if you do, I almost didn't bother playing the game because of the controller only button prompts and it'd be a shame if you didn't play it because of that.

Oh, looks like the download I linked to didn't include a list of the controls. Here you go.

That brings back so much nostalgia.
The memories a dozen tiamat's unleashing their bombers, missile cruiser spam, "Ze bear has left ze voods comrade" and the horror of realising your fleet was jumping ploughing straight into a minefield when its already being hit by enemy fighters and you can't find the carriers.

Eh, looks alright, didn't really impress me that much. I can see they were going for the "visit these mario galaxy planets", but the flight controls and the planets aren't really that interesting.

I get that it's an alpha, but I don't know, it's not something that would sell me on financing this project.

Also
Boy I can't wait for those performance issues.

Best of luck to them though, I just think I'll pass.

Is that a JJAbrams class?

How many things did you find?

Things? I just went to the planets

I just have a low tolerance to complete lack of spess 4x.

Aurora 4x kills my CPU, so does Final Frontier
MOO2, SotS and Sins are all played to death and back
Star Ruler is great for 1 play and shit for any following, so is Endless Spess
GalCivII is a bloated mess

I just want a spess 4x that isnt shit

Tried Space Empires V?

Battle of Procyon V is the most tedious STF.

looks gay as fuck tbh famalam

There are for example messages on the planets that you can find that detail the story, there's an observatory in Brittle Hollow and so on. Crashed precursor pods. Inside Dark Bramble there's a wreck of the original colony ship. There are a bunch of travellers on different planets you can meet. A lot of the stuff is time sensitive so you have to time your travels to see it all. You didn't explore anything?

Lesbian Jadzia Dax is kind of hot

I walked around and there didn't seem to be anything and the controls didn't make me want to go around more.

He obviously played for like 5 minutes and didn't even try to explore, because otherwise I'm pretty sure he'd mention something rather explosive.

That's a shame, there's a lot of things to find.

The first time it happened I was exploring underwater so I didn't know what had happened so you can miss it but yeah, I think you're right.

I just hope if they do go under, they give the IP back to BBI, or maybe Sega.

Not really you fucking degenerate

missed opportunity

...

All feds are naive as fuck, it would be too easy.

A Mirror Universe assassin game would be interesting though.

For some reason I keep thinking Klingon design when I see that thing.

What are spess games missing? Why are so few able to be satisfying?

Picard is best trek
Sisko is shit.

You are very wrong user.

Really no mods that are recommended

So any anons who played STO remember the "PvP Warzones" at all?

I used to play them a lot and get a bunch of farmers trying to report me, for PvP'ing them.

They're aliens. It's miscegeny, but not as we know it.

After investigating a few more black holes, it appears that the game does indeed blue-shift as you descend into them. It obviously doesn't shift visible light into the gamma range or anything gnarly like that, but it is what it is.

...

I guess I missed it in the patch notes, but the atmospheric composition analysis seems new. I dig it.

I'm in a similar boat. Anyone else got 4x suggestions?

Distant Worlds Universe is really quite good. Some people have compared it to MOO2 in terms of quality, though I personally wouldn't go that far.

Already played the shit outta that one. Does it have any good mods? Or is there another 4x similar to it?

I don't know anything about its modding scene, assuming it has one, sorry. As for similar 4X, most that I can think of have already been posted in this thread.
The Space Empires games, while not terribly glamorous, basically play like GalCiv games with less bloat.
You can also play X3 like a first-person 4X if you don't mind feeling yourself age as you build your empire.

Other than that, if 4X is really what you're after, you might want to check in with the /gsg/ thread and see what they recommend.

What is the difference between Stellaris and Distant Worlds Universe?

I haven't played Stellaris yet, since the consensus seems to be that it's only half-finished.
One of the features I find most interesting about DWU is the empire manager feature. Basically, you can set just about anything you want, from upper macro down to individual trade route micro, to be handled by a "manager". The AI takes over the aspects that you find tedious, and you can set guidelines for how it manages things, and you can focus on the aspects you like the most. You can flip them on or off at any time, and there's a lot of granularity to it.

Oh, forgot to mention, DWU is basically an "ultimate edition" type package that includes 4-5 expansions to the original Distant Worlds. So there's understandably a lot of content.

Lots of scenarios as well, and you can even play as a pirate faction preying on the civilizations.

Distant Worlds isn't shit.

Feels bad, I'm in the same boat.

Space Empires 4 Gold is a nice and easily moddable MOO clone. It does use "hyperspace lanes" which I dislike but the rest of the game is pretty solid.

Don't recommend games that play and perform like shit just because they are 3D.

It was doing multidimensional rooms back in the 60s-70s and has become popular again (which has had a co-responding effect on it's quality), so…yeah.

Oh yeah, I remember those. I stopped farming them after LoR dropped since the items that dropped were getting largely unprofitable in comparison to what was available elsewhere in the game. And after Crafting 2.0 dropped, completely pointless.

But what happened to you was VERY normal. Farmers fucking idiots. When LoR was new I took a torpedo T'Varo build out for a spin, much salt was mined from that one.

If Space Engineer ever adds support for a 10-bit colorspace, it's going to get even worse.

No Earth-type planets yet though (with N2, O2, Ar and then CO2). Mainly just CO2, CO2-O2 or O2-CO2. All of which are extremely not breathable. Although some people on the forum said they didn't want this to change because they wanted to roleplay their extreme personal formulation of the Drake equation and having more Earths would ruin that…

Well, the planet in my screencap is CH4, CO2, H2S, C2H6 and N2. Still not remotely breathable, but a bit more than just CO2-O2.
Also been finding a lot of atmospheres with H2S.

Are there no planets at all with O2+N2 atmospheres, or are they just extremely rare? 7/3 Oxygen/Nitrogen mix is all that should be required for breathability, I don't think the Ar or CO2 is really necessary.

O2 being rare in planetary atmospheres makes sense, too, doesn't it? I seem to recall that O2 easily binds with carbon to form CO2, but the reverse is less easy - on Earth we rely on plants and algae to strip the carbon from the molecules for us en masse.

Any inert gas with over 15% oxygen content and very low carbon dioxide is perfectly breathable.

That's not to imply that carbon dioxide is necessary. Ideally, you could breathe 50% oxygen and 50% some inert gas.

Mainly krypton, argon, xenon, and a fuckton of other things that wouldn’t actually be in an atmosphere you could find on a regular basis.

Sounds cool, torrent link?
No SKIDROW shit please. I don't trust SKIDROW.

Just run it in Linux.

I meant among Terras, that's pretty much the standard in SE 0.98. Other types of worlds like deserts, Titans and so on have much different composition. Your combo in the pic is pretty standard for a desert world.

Ah. The composition really depends on the gases involved.

You need to have somewhere between 120mmHg and 403mmHg O2 to be able to breath properly. Go over or under, and then you could run into health problems.

CO2 needs to be kept LOW. Anything over 4mmHg is unhealthy (and preferably you'd want it under 1mmHg), and 53mmHg or higher is down right fatal.

So you'd want the sweet range of O2 with a lot of N2. However you could swap out N2 with many other kinds of inert gases. Neon for example would be alright, although you'd have to have a different mix than N2/O2. A neon/O2 atmosphere would be a bit redder though I imagine.

Partial pressure fuckery, yeah. Too high partial oxygen pressure pushes too much of it into the lungs and causes your flesh to oxidize forcefully.

Apparently the Frenchies did breathing gas tests with 71bar pressure to simulated saturation dives at over 700m depth

So whatever happened to Artemis Bridge Autism Simulator?

...

The goal of the game is to play without automation.

Generally, I find that automation will fuck your shit up, save for allowing constructors go their merry ways.

You will always design better ships than the AI, for example; and, automation will rape your fleet formations.

The wrong kind of autism killed it.

Game?

Elite Dangerous

The terrain gen is starting to grow on me with this game. I just wish you could drop off MB4 miners remotely like you could in the last two games, if nothing else for crafting materials.

I'd like to make a deep dive using long-jump boosts.

How's Starsector these days? Last time mods were needed for content, but those were pretty buggy.

Being in an alliance with player faction (supposedly unable to be in an alliance), pirate faction and Tri-Tachyon with "Independent" as an unified enemy was weird if amusing.

OH MY GOD I'M NOT ALONE

IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THIS YET YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO

You know a game is great when you've beaten it countless times over fifteen years and then dump $200 into a CH Products CombatStick and ProThrottle setup so you can experience it even more!

I beat FS2 on insane difficulty with a keyboard! FUN FACT: You can't get the good ending on insane. The Dragons spawn immediately after you kill them! You cannot engage your jump drive in the node. They are programmed to spawn right on top of you. If you try to engage your subspace drive they dole out damage and it can't reach the target speed, even in a Perseus.

Pic related: My favorite ship in the series. I fly the Valkyrie on nearly EVERY. SINGLE. MISSION. in FS1, on hard difficulty. I fucking *LOVE* that ship. It can do anything - it's not too fragile, you just suck as a pilot.

In short, Holla Forums was right again.

Everyone knows if you want to get real work done, this is what you bring.

...

You've made me upset now user.
That wouldn't even be too hard.

Star Citizen NEVER EVER

At thia point I could give a shit about the fucking p2w mmo portion game, I just want the damn single player campaign I pledged for.

Poor user.

I am amazed there hasn't been some sort of attempt by RP'ers at this. You could technically do it with Freespace if you could get the numbers.

You may be right.
I should look into this stuff.

...

Holla Forums Squadron when?

...

What did you expect? Dark Souls in space with virtually unlimited playtime before getting to the end? It's just a comfy exploration game.

Actually since I have nothing better to do, I want to play this.
Should I start with the first game or it doesn't matter what game I start with?

Shamelessly Shilling for Nexus: The Jupiter Incident

Nordic Games purchased the IP last year AND THEY UPDATED A 12-YEAR-OLD GAME!
Now it runs great on modern systems without any need to modify it. It runs nice on 1080p and even above and the multiplayer / skirmish works too!
AND IT'S ON FUCKING SALE
On Steam… unfortunately

Show them support, show them love, show them that we are interested and we might see a Nexus 2!

I'm not sure how many would agree but I'd say play the second game first, and only play the original if you really want more campaign.
There isn't really anything that FS1 does that FS2 doesn't do as well or better.

Start with FS2. And it goes without saying that you want this: fsoinstaller.com/
If you had fun then go back and play FS1 and Silent Threat: Reborn.

No, fuck that. Are you nuts? Start with FS1 but run it using the FS2 port. Be sure to uncheck the revised FS1 soundtrack in the FSO installer - it sounds like crap. Ruins the feel of the game.

FS1 and FS2 have incredible plots - ever play Mass Effect? Get ready to discover where Drew Karpeshyn lifted most off his lore.

The Athena turns way too slow and feels unresponsive. It can't carry Interceptor missles and the afterburner reserve is too small.

You don't need that much armament when you have speed and maneuverability. Banshee, Prometheus, Interceptors. Anything else is a luxury. You don't need Pheonix V's when you can sustain the highest average speed of any fighter in the game, save for the Manticore.

Need heavy hitters? Micromanage
your squad. For the few missions the Valk can't hack it, the Apollo will.

They already tried, and the crowdfunding was a disaster. Nexus 2 never ever

That wasn't Nordic
That was some guys from the original dev team Mithis Entertainment

Fucker, the Athena is an unholy offspring of a fighter-bomber.
Plenty of firepower, the queen of capship crippling, as agile as a heavy fighter with a thin profile. And Phoenix V missiles kill shit DED.

So I got the port, is Awakenings the first part of the campaign or no?

WHY start with FS1? If you're trying to attract a newcomer to the series that's the worst first impression you could possibly give them.

The early writing and gameplay blows. Your first task is a self-playing mission where you grind against a Fenris for 10 minutes waiting to press Alt-J. The next few are equally uninteresting.

Meanwhile webm related is the first ST:R mission - a challenge with several different kinds of objectives, and Freespace 2 begins with convoy escort and a capital ship engagement with beams and tons of dialogue.

Guy who started this train. I'm a fan of games like Star Wars: TIE Fighter and such, would FS1 really be a turn-off for me?

No, if you already like space sims to begin with it will probably be fun. It's just not quite as good.

Also, Awakenings is some user-made campaign. FS1 will be called "FS Port" in your mod selection screen.

Nah, awakenings is a fan made mod. FSOpen has several. Check em out after you are done with the original campaigns if you want. Some of them are pretty good.

No, FS 1 is closer to to Tie Fighter in style, since all the big ass super beams on the capital ships aren't in the game yet. In FS 2, even the lowliest cruiser has an AA beam that will surprisebuttseks whole wings of fighters in a second or two unless you play on the lowest difficulty or know in advance where to approach the ship from.

I did the same thing

One thing that I liked about the Freespace games is that if you got two opposing groups of ships to merge with each other head-on it looked like Macross.

NOT FAST ENOUGH

...

Single player is pretty good and the missions are entertaining. Endgame is korean tier

I played it years ago and found it surprisingly passable

I'd be down if you niggers are?

Fixed that for you user

Is there a list of great/must have space engineers mods?

Is Star Control 2 still the best ever space game?

No.
That'd be FSO.

I think you misspelled Starflight.

Dude you can have Star Wars, just play Empire At War. Republic at War mod if you want clones and sexier lasers.

Is Gratuitous Space Battles good?

1 is. He abandoned 2 before it was done.

But is there a new cracked version available?

I miss fucking around with the Elite 3 ships. I got some nice 50ly jump ships in FFE. Of course FFE didn't have real-time hyperspace.

No, but it's only $15.

I played Empire at war to death and crave a Empire at war 2 4x game

Oh, you try Republic at War, or the Sandbox mod?

...

RaW yes but the sandbox mod no, what is it?

Just a basic mod that increases unit limits and whatnot

Speaking of Doug Drexler, I hope his NX-01 is in STO.

I already do that user and I need more, but thanks for the link.

I might not have liked Enterprise, but the NX-01 is damn sexy.

Holy fuck did Star Citizen really become a fucking FPS?

The version where those mechanics are implemented isn't out yet.
Here's a link to the latest version:
torrentreactor.com/torrents/38740669/Starsector-0-7-2a-RC1

It is indeed, but the adage is and it'll always be to try before you buy.I did buy it after playing an old ass version. Worth every penny

...

Didn't mean to green text. fuck i gotta stop drinking.

No it became a meme

The regular NX-01 is there.
But not the refit.

Bump

Apparently he sold an item that made him enough money to buy the upgrades to make it to the center in 30 hours. They're releasing a day 1 patch to fix that and other things apparently

Many thanks user. I have a version from like last year

Because it is a start and it is a great game, faggot!

Freespace 2 Open Remake is a lot better user

Yeah, why?
It's almost like it's worth playing.

Star Wars: Rebellion was pretty good, you should try it out.

Where should I go to get the complete Homeworld experience?

Cataclysm isn't included in the Remastered pack.

You mean as in buying?

""""""buying"""""" yes, if you know what I mean.

why the fuck is there no stellaris thread?

you can play as a pirate.

It's a dead and pretty much abandoned game that was never finished.

there was some game, star citizen, they said it will have some fps module. always dreamed about hijacking trade ship cucks with a team and steal their goods. what happened to the game?

I played that game to death you have no idea user.

it was launched recently..

1. Armored thrusters
2.All others

But it's trash. The AI is retarded, compared against even Paradox's usual AI. Midgame is boring and endgame is just beating the shit out of everyone with very little diplomacy.
