the reason theres so few players is nexon thought it'd be a good idea to put a f2p's beta behind a paywall. Now the paywall is down people still dont care. I rather like the game, when I get to play it. You DON'T in fact need to grind for weapon attachments as their effect is almost nil tbh. It's got that insta-kill knifing that fattlebield has which is fucking insanely OP when combined with hypersprint and the shit hit detection. The gameplay is like cod4 in that the weapons have recoil and you move fast and all that but you can't jump around a corner and spray and win a fight. 7/10, 8/10 if/when they fix hit detection

I haven't played CA in years, but First Assault really reminds me of it. I mostly say this because of the awful recoil system mixed with clunky movement. Combine this with an awful grind with a leveling system, then yeah - it's like Combat Arms. Also, the guns not being very varied along with a arbitrary "modification" system is kind of the icing on the cake.

I've been playing since the game had its first beta, they've fixed a lot of major issues with the game and added a ton of content. Devs seem pretty chill for the most part and nexon jewery seems at a minor. Default weapons are more then enough to carry you to victory once you understand how to play the game. Tap your shots, pretend its counter strike and tap tap tap. Or just take an SMG and spray 2 win. Whatever gets you off. Snipers also good if you can land shots but takes a lot of getting used to. I haven't really kept up with the weapons so I can't tell you what is best in the game but the default guns are more then enough as long as you're not retarded. Map design is pretty decent, terminal is a fun game type.

Since open beta it went from the same 30-40 guys to new faces ever game. Its been great. Play rocket man if you want face plant operator that'll get you free points (one shots everything including think tanks). Believe me its better they waited for open beta, game was very bare bones for the longest time.

Hit detection isn't nearly as bad as people cry about, just tap your shots like you're playing counter strike and you should have no issue getting kills. The stuttering that plague beta is still kinda of there but it greatly reduced and will hopefully continued to improve over time. Maven is delicious

The PS1 game was great as a kid, but every time I try to replay it it's like learning to ride a bike again. I love that the major is the closest/most authentic to the manga original.

There's a couple different timelines

I watched it in this order:

1. SAC
2. 1st movie
3. 2nd movie
4. SAC 2
5. Solid State Society

The remade stuff is pretty shit so there's no reason to watch unless you want to be disappointed, or if you like to get angry at how people are fucking up your hobbies

There are 3 animated universes that are completely independent of each other.

There's also the original manga universe which goes:
The Appleseed manga is also a sort of sequel to GitS, containing many of the same political states but none of the characters and is set about a century after GitS.

The PS1 game is set in the original mangaverse, or as close as it gets.
The PS2 and PSP games are set in the SAC universe.
First Assault is a whole new adaption of its own and not set in any of the preestablished timelines.

My recommendation if you want to get into GitS is to watch the 1995 Oishii movie followed by the SAC timeline, the rest is either crap, pretentious or just derivative. Masamune Shirow is massively overrated mostly thanks to the superior adaptions of his own work, he literally draws porn of women fucking bipedal horse monsters while the royalty checks from all the GitS adaptions come in.

GitS First Assault is a shitty game.

I played the early access version, it's really bad. Outside of the characters, there's nothing that will remind you of the show. They use real guns in this game instead of those encountered on GitS: SAC, the progression system is bad, I guess they wanted a grindfest like Call of Duty. The maps are bland. Shitty spawn points, hackers.

After playing that shitty game, it made me want to go back to NeoTokyo°, that mod was great.

When you realise it is 100% serious then you will see the true horror.

It's a really fun game, probably one of the better Source mods. The environments are some of the most beautiful I had ever seen in the Source engine at that time. The soundtrack was also top-tier and would have probably won awards if it had been for an actual game.

Honestly the game is even faster to level up in now but they reduced the GP gain per level to 20k (from 50k) but added in dailies and event missions as well as giving each match a 1.5x GP boost so you still get just as much - if not more.

The last emergency patch they rolled out fixed up shitty FPS and even shittier hit detection so now its playable again.

jesus, man not even the lowest of f2p korean shovelware FPS is worse than this game. ADS is required, snipers are fucking useless, and hitboxes/headshots feel almost entirely random. The level design isn't even traditional, it's a weird realistic mismash of rooms and hallways. The abilities are gay, the guns are gay, and the gunplay is gay. Everything takes forever to unlock. now stop bothering with this shit.
